I really wanted to like this place a lot. But it fell a little short of expectations. I love dumplings, and there isn't an affordable spot to get them.
Juicy dumpling, by it's namesake does make have many home made dumplings. However, outside of aesthetics, the flavor was it's short coming and that was disappointing.
First. Pork soup dumplings. The staple of why we came. They were decent enough. The wrapper was well cooked and I think near perfect, however you can tell they don't have a standard system to wrap them. Each one was wrapped differently (See photos) proof that they are hand made, but kind of sloppy. Not a big deal. The soup was very fragrant and quite tasty. However the meat filling I found lacking. It was a pretty tough bite and was a little bland.
NOTE: almost all the dumplings were in my opinion, lacking any pronounced flavor and missing a good savory flavor to keep then savory. May be just my palate, but they all were fairly bland.
Second: veggie dumplings were the best tasting to me. Very well cooked and packed well. A little bland but as they are veggies easily overlooked.
Third: Ha Gow/Shu Mai, were both underseasoned. While texture was good on both, the Ha Gow were falling apart as soon as I picked them up. Both required the accompanied dumpling sauce to have any amount of strong flavor. On their own, they were fairly bland.
Fourth: pan fried pork bao. This one was a interesting. They added sesame seeds to the bottom for toasting. It gave a pleasant crunch and texture to a bao which I don't normally see. While it would have been nice, the baos are very under filled, and sadly not a very prominent flavor. The fact they were under filled was disappointing. I took a big bite and still didn't even get to the meat.
The pan fried samplers were OK. The pork and chicken filling was again bland with little flavoring. Thr wrappers for everything was actually very good. A little pinch of salt or some extra soy sauce in the filling mix would have made these even better.
The non-dumping dishes we got were the Peking duck, beef noodle soup, mapo tofu, and snow pea leaves.
Peking duck lacked the characteristic crispy skin. Which was a little disappointing however the flavor and cook on the meat was delicious. The crepes were nice and thin and when combined with the sauce it was a great bite. Would recommend.
The beef noodle soup was decent. The noodles and beef were all stars. Nice hand pulled noodles and incredibly tender flavorful beef. The soup was only OK. It wasn't quite as rich as I have had it and seemed more watered down. However it was still delicious and would recommend.
The mapo tofu was the standout today for me. It had that nice kick of scheshuan peppers but not overly spicy. It was flavorful and the tofu was nice a soft but still firm enough to grab. I would order this dish every time. Great flavor, texture, spice, and consistency. Top recommendation (if you like tofu dishes)
Snow pea leaves were standard. Not quite enough garlic in my opinion but they were still good.
All-in-all, this was a decent place to eat. I do agree with some folks that the price to quality isn't quite there. It is a bit over priced for what you are receiving. These are fine dining prices (which may be today's market) but I do feel this was not enough bang for my buck. When pricing it out, it's about $2+ a dumpling. Which if they were near perfect, I would be comfortable paying for. Again, they wrappers are homemade and taste wonderful. Good consistency and cooked perfectly. But the filling (the big part of a dumplings was surprisingly lacking)
If Google would allow, I'd rate this more of a 3.5 than a 4. Willing to come back at...
Read moreMy party arrived for our 6:00 PM reservation, and the level of neglect we experienced was not just unprofessional; it felt intentional.
We were seated in a far back corner, which wouldn’t have been an issue if we had been treated like paying customers. Instead, we were completely ignored. For 30 agonizing minutes, not a single server approached our table. No water, no menus, no greeting—nothing. Meanwhile, every other table around us, including those seated after us, was attended to promptly. Servers were actively taking orders, refilling drinks, and engaging with other guests, while we were left to sit there like we didn’t exist.
What made it worse was the blatant avoidance from the server assigned to our section. They made eye contact with us multiple times but deliberately chose not to approach our table. It was as if we were being punished for being seated in their section. Whether it was because of where we were placed or some other reason, the level of disrespect was staggering.
A busy restaurant is no excuse for outright neglect. Even a simple, “We’ll be with you shortly,” would have sufficed. Instead, we were left to wonder if we were invisible or if we had done something wrong. After 30 minutes of being ignored, we decided to leave. It was clear that our patronage wasn’t valued.
To anyone considering dining at juicy beware. If you’re seated in the wrong section or don’t fit whatever criteria they deem worthy of service, you might as well not exist. There are plenty of restaurants that know how to treat their customers with respect—this isn’t one of them.
1 star and that’s only because zero isn’t an option. Shame on yall for making us feel like...
Read moreThe atmosphere is great. You do feel like you are at the aquarium. The manager that greeted us was polite and the food was pretty good. With that said, the service was terrible. We waited 10 minutes to for our server to acknowledge us while the server assign to the table next us passed us over 4 times. When I waited tables in college you at least greeted the table, even if they weren't yours, and took the drink order or went and grabbed the server. This is speculation, but the server that passed us didn't want to take us for whatever reason. They grabbed the lady that was already in the weeds all the way on the other side of the place to take care of us. I ordered the Har Gow, shrimp balls, and walnut shrimp. My husband ordered chicken friend rice without onion. I received the shrimp balls before our drinks. Then, received the rest of my order way before my husband. We were told his food would take a while longer because he didn't want onions. Weird because the rice that came with my food wasn't an issue, and no, it did not have onions. I finished my food not even 5 minutes after my husband got his and she gave us the check when he was still eating. We look at the bill and it turns out they had but a hold for his food and it said so on the bill.....So we had to watch people that came in after us get the same food items we ordered before. This is disappointing because it was neat to have a place that served Dim Sum so close to us. In conclusion, the food is good but the service left us wanting. We should have went to the bar. That guy seemed really into his craft and was going above and beyond for those that...
