Disheartening Experience Despite Previous Positive Visits
I regret to share that our recent experience at this restaurant was both disappointing and disheartening, especially as we were celebrating a special occasion and had previously enjoyed multiple pleasant visits.
We arrived for our 8:15 PM reservation at 8:09 PM. Despite the restaurant being relatively empty, we were asked to wait until exactly 8:15 PM to be seated—an unnecessarily rigid approach that set an unwelcoming tone.
Once seated, we ordered drinks and appetizers. Unfortunately, the sodas came in small glass bottles and were served at room temperature. We requested additional ice, but that took a while to arrive. From the beginning, our server was largely inattentive and disengaged. We noticed she checked in frequently with surrounding tables, while our own was overlooked for extended periods. Based on this contrast in attentiveness, we couldn’t help but feel that we were being treated differently. This left us feeling uncomfortable and disappointed.
When we asked for a description of a particular dish, the only response we received was, “It’s cold,” with no further explanation. After finally placing our entrée orders, we waited over 45 minutes with no follow-up. We had to flag down our server to cancel the entrées and request the check for the items we had already received.
At that point, the manager approached us and stated the entrées had “just come out,” yet the food told a different story. The scallop dish was room temperature, and the fries that came with the lobster rolls were cold. Rather than apologize meaningfully or offer a resolution, the manager’s response was curt and dismissive. He said he could pack the food to go and added, “You can take them or not.” The interaction lacked professionalism and courtesy.
To make matters more awkward, the manager then gave my friend a pat on the back and said “sorry,” which felt uncomfortable and insincere rather than empathetic or appropriate.
We were told that a dessert would be sent out as a gesture of goodwill, but it never arrived before we decided to leave.
Ironically, the best part of the meal was the focaccia bread at the beginning—fresh and well-prepared—though the accompanying hummus was oddly hard and unappetizing.
Overall, this experience was far below the standard we had come to expect from this establishment. Between the poor service, cold food, and the feeling of being treated differently, it was an upsetting way to spend a special evening. I sincerely hope the management takes this feedback to heart and addresses these issues to ensure a more inclusive and respectful environment...
Read moreDined here with 5 of my friends on a Saturday at 8pm to celebrate my birthday. 3 of us arrived right on time to check in, and were asked to wait for our table even though the restaurant was near-empty and our table was ready. The other 3 were finding parking in the encore garage while we were seated (if you know encore, you know the parking situation can be difficult on a weekend at this time). The three of us ordered our cocktails and some appetizers while we waited for our friends to make their way up from the garage. We were asked three different times by our server to place our entrèe order within 20 minutes of sitting down- before our appetizers had arrived and while we were still waiting on our last guest in the party to arrive. He tried taking away her place setting multiple times and we kept telling him she was on her way and we would order entrees once she’d arrived and settled. Within 30 seconds of her sitting down, he came and asked for our entrees before even asking if she wanted something to drink. This really rubbed us the wrong way. He was pushy and seemed to ignore us when we tried to flag him down to order more. The restaurant was well decorated and the ambiance was fine, although we were facing an open wall with a hallway to the casino, making us feel as though we were put on display. We frequent Encore often, but we will not be returning to this restaurant for some time due to bad, pushy service, and very forgettable food. We were given a wrong entree order and instead of offering to replace it with the correct item, he simply took it away and said he’d remove it from the tab, which he didn’t, and left my guest without a meal. One guest asked to have the peas removed from her scallops and the crab fried rice, and both still came with peas. When the check came, we all dropped our cards down to split evenly among us. That’s when our server said they only accepted up to 3 cards? Which is not noted anywhere on the menu, website, or in our booking confirmation? Weird. All of us have worked in the industry, myself being a restaurant manager, so we don’t like to make a big fuss and we tipped well but still were left with a poor taste in our mouths, literally and figuratively. We did, however, appreciate the hosts/managers coming by to take Polaroids of us. It was a nice added touch! There are plenty of good restaurants in Encore, this one still has some kinks to work out since opening a few weeks ago. It has a lot of potential to be great, and we all are hoping they reach...
Read moreWe recently dined here during Harbor Hour, and unfortunately, the experience was underwhelming across the board. Despite the restaurant not being particularly busy, the service was slow and the staff lacked warmth or attentiveness. We ordered from the Harbor Hour specials. The fried calamari and the mussel appetizer were highlights. Both were fresh and well-cooked. However, the positives stopped there. The seafood stew entree was disappointing and not at all what we expected based on the description. The bread served with it was rock hard, and the seafood selection was questionable. Instead of the promised shrimp, scallops, clams, calamari, and mussels, we received a small half piece of scallop and chunks of unidentifiable fish. There were some mussels, clams and calamari, just no scallops and fish instead. Whether this was due to ingredient substitution on the Harbor Hour menu or a mistake in the kitchen, we weren’t informed, and it affected the overall experience. I am not a huge fish fan, so seeing fish instead of scallops was a major letdown. Another entree we ordered, the fra diavolo, was advertised with lobster and shrimp. It arrived with shrimp only, not a single piece of lobster. This lack of transparency was frustrating and felt misleading. On a more positive note, the baked haddock entree was well-received, and while the salmon was cooked fine, it didn’t stand out. After eating the seafood stew, I had an upset stomach the whole night. Not sure if it was because the food wasn’t enjoyable or if it was the seafood quality. The dessert, small brownies was the final disappointment. They were flavorless, and one person in our group even had to spit it out. We weren’t expecting much out of these but was hoping they were at least a little bit enjoyable, maybe served warm even heated up in the microwave! Overall, we left feeling frustrated and misled. If the Harbor Hour menu differs significantly from the regular menu, guests should be made aware of that up front. At nearly $400 for our group of 4, the value and experience simply didn’t match the price. Maybe we caught them on a bad night, but not worth coming back to try again. We definitely won’t...
