Keep in mind, I rarely write negative reviews, and only do so after communicating with the proper people was either unhelpful and/or impossible. This would have been a 5 star review were it not for the fact that what we thought was basically a good shopping experience was ruined by a desire to up sell accessories without mentioning that they were non-refundable. The sales associate took great pains to explain the refund and return policy for the mattress itself. She then had me initial certain sections of the paper that she just read the mattress policies off of. Later on came the discussion about "maintaining our warranty" and the need to get a good mattress encasement. We told her that we were going to repurchase one from Amazon that we knew to be quality. She insisted that theirs was of better quality and could "avoid warranty issues in the future". She then offered to bring the price down to within $10 of the one we chose. (Keep in mind, it was still close to $100 either way). Not once did she explicitly mention that accessories were non-refundable or redirect me to the document I initialed when speaking about the mattress. Fast forward to 6 hours of sleep with this crinkly hot plastic trash bag of an encasement ruining the feel of our new $1000 mattress. When I called the store after our first night on this thing to calmly explain to the manager how that sale went down, Jack quickly told me that "the policy was on the receipt" and that I could "maybe put the encasement on a guest bed". (as if we all have a guest bed) He also expressed how corporate policy basically ties his hands in his ability to keep customers happy in situations like this. How helpful. I don't think it was an accident that I was read all of the mattress warranty and return information and told absolutely nothing about accessories, because most reasonable people would not enthusiastically give up their right to return things that Amazon would have happily taken back. Should I have been less trusting? Absolutely! People can be nice and helpful, but they are still trying to make sales. Read everything even if they make it seem like they have explained all that you will need to know. I screwed up. I naively thought they would not mess up a relationship with a repeat customer over the sale of a $90 garbage bag. Will I buy another bed from this company or this location? Not likely. p.s. If you try calling the Mattress Firm corporate phone number, their automated call options will just direct you to call your local store. You know, the store that claims that corporate policies dictate their ability to be the least bit flexible or helpful. This is not how to run a business if you are truly concerned about customer...

About a year ago, I went to Mattress Firm in Everett, Mass., to buy a product. It was a firm Serta mattress. The discount I got for buying that mattress meant signing an agreement that I would not return the mattress for a refund. I agreed. And, Mattress Firm sent a delivery truck and assembled the mattress. After a few days, my wife and I had back pain from sleeping on it. So, I wrote a review criticizing the store and situation I found myself in. Well, apparently, someone from Mattress Firm read my review. I got a phone call from I think it was the district manager offering to correct the situation with a replacement of equal or more value. This meant that Mattress Firm could take back the Serta firm mattress I had purchased to resell to someone else only at a used price, because I had used it, even though it was only for a few days. So, I obliged. I went back and worked out a deal to get a medium mattress along with one of those platforms that raises the head of the mattress up and down, paying a bit more; they delivered and assembled the thing; and, now, after I think more than a year of using it for my wife and me, I can say without a doubt that we are very happy that Mattress Firm went out of its way to respect our sale, because now we have slept comfortably due to the change. Mattress Firm did not exchange my bed because it was legally required to do so, but because the people there wanted me to be happy. In turn, I want people to know that Mattress Firm has tried very hard to make me happy. I only wish I had corrected my review on Google much sooner than now, since I had only deleted my old review without replacing it with the positive review the store deserved.
