Some girlfriends & I had decided to get together for a girls dinner. One of my friends had been raving about how AMAZING Granite City is! She stated they have options for people that have food allergies (I have many. Because of her great review, I made a reservation a week in advance. Im glad I did, the restaurant was PACKED on a Saturday evening at 7pm. We were immediately seated!😀 Our waiter was friendly, greeted us ASAP & took our drink order too. Our drinks took a lil longer to get but it was packed so we didnt say anything, waited patiently & thanked our server for our drinks when they arrived. Our server was so much fun, interactive, & looked us in the eye when we spoke to him. 👍 He pulled out a note pad & said its for "just incase". From appetizers (as an entree), to salads, burger's, pork chops & salmon. Our server repeated everything back to us without issue & never needed the pad. It was impressive! 😁 He submitted into the kitchen. We enjoyed our conversation & drinks but definately getting hungry & our meal was taking a bit longer than usual. Our server came out & told me they ran out of rice for my salmon, can I replace it with coliflour rice? I said no, because I dont like that. He asked if I wanted a free desert, I said no. He offered other options, I accepted sweet potato ff's. He submitted the request. About 30 minutes after the original order was submitted 1 of the gals at our table got her meal/the appetizer (nachos). Two other entree's: 1 burger meal & the pork chop meal came out about 10 minutes after. Our server told us (another burger & my salmon). We told the other gals at our table to eat we'll get ours soon. About 15 minutes after our server asked how everything was tasting & apologized to us that we still dont have our food & will have it soon, the kitchen is backed up. Shortly after someone came out with regular ff's. I said, no, this isnt correct. I ordered sweet potato fries. Our server said, he was sorry. Shortly after someone else brought out my sweet potato fries. They were great! Still no salmon or other burger! We have been at this table for over 45 minutes & over half of our table is nearly finished eating. 😩 At about 8:00 I receive my salmon entree; its over done (burnted & rock hard). Our server comes back & appologizes to my friend who STILL DOESN'T have her burger over 1 hour later!!! I told my server, that the salmon is over cooked & terrible! He apologizes over and over, asked what he can do, I told him about our evening & the great word of mouth review & I no longer have time to wait & i dont want to pay for my meal. I requested to speak to the manager. The manager came out shortly after, & I re-explained why we came, this being my 1st time here, trying to stay positive because it was very busy, but waiting for food over 1 hr 15 minutes (the gals burger STILL had not arrived) & over 1 hour for mine, while the rest of our table got their food 30-40 minutes prior. This is unacceptable. The manager apologized & stated that our meals (mine & the other gal w/o the burger) are on the house, she offered to remake my meal, I told her no since I need to be some where else at 9 pm. She insisted & stated she wanted to be sure my experience is a good one. I said, okay. She also threw in a round of drinks for our table while we waited. About 5 minutes later I recieves my Sweet Potato fries for my meal remake, our server came out w/ our drinks. The other gal got her burger over 1.5 hours later. She said it was AMAZING!! I got my 2nd salmon at 8:51 pm with a togo box & the manager apologized. Our server asked how everything was, I said the Salmon was so good!! I left late, but the hospitality, customer service, & Management was EXCELLENT! I'll be coming back to try out the restaurant again because of this & I hope to change my...

To start, I rarely have a bad experience at Granite City, so this was unfortunate to say the least. My wife and I stopped by to catch a last minute happy hour and the fish fry. The bartenders were relatively attentive, but that was only after I sat for a while and was finally noticed.
After tabbing out my wife and I got a booth and ordered a burger and the all you can eat fish fry. While at first I felt bad for the server, who clearly was flustered and overworked, the service only seemed to spiral downwards. She rarely stopped by our table, even though it was not even remotely a packed house. It took about 25 - 35 minutes for our food to come out, which luckily was tasty. After I ate the two fish included, it took far too long for each following plate to come out, which was only 1 piece at a time. On a minor note, they also kept forgetting tartar sauce that would accompany this dish.
However, when it came time to pay for the bill, that is when the problems only got worse (As some background I told her before we ordered that I had a BOGO entree coupon). I told the server I had a BOGO entree for my birthday in the app. She told me to hit redeem for the BOGO entree and I wrote the code down for her. Then she told me that neither of our items qualified for the bogo entree meal coupon. She said that the only items that qualified had to come from their small section of the menu titled "entree". So even though neither of our items were specialty items or appetizers, they were unable to honor this coupon.
I then asked "Ok, since I already hit redeem and can't use this coupon, can you just give me a paper copy of this coupon so that I can use it for next time". She said no, because I had already hit redeem. She also said that the manager refused to take any discount off of the total for this mistake and told us that the manager essentially said "Too bad, once you hit redeem there is nothing that they can do for us".
Long story short, the food was good but it makes it hard to want to return due to the service and how the manager was inflexible in such a minor issue to their bottom line.
I know who the manager is, but out of respect for her privacy I will not name...
Read moreVisited about a week ago and I’m only leaving this review because I’m still disturbed and angry about the experience. Went in with a group of 15 for a birthday dinner. Ordered chicken tenders and fries for my toddler. Her chicken was visibly dark and burnt. I immediately asked the server if her food was burnt to which she replied “it definitely looks too dark for her (my toddler)”. She asked if we’d like something else and I substituted it for pizza and fries. Now everyone has their food, and we’re a few bites in. Server notices my daughter is eating the fries off her plate and proceeds to take her plate away AS she’s eating??!!! I informed her she was eating the fries. She says it is their policy that when food is exchanged they take the plate or you will be charged. I told her we ordered another plate also with fries, and she said it doesn’t matter. Essentially, they were going to throw away the fries on the plate… for new fries? Just take the chicken. We could barely cut it in two. Mind you my daughter has a speech delay and doesn’t understand things as other kids her age do, so taking the plate away was stressful and confusing for her. I was almost going to pay for it but decided to slide her my plate. I understand the take back policy if someone doesn’t like their meal or wanted something different, but in this case it was their error. And we were just going to get another order of fries anyways? AND it’s a two year old. Everyone at the table was astounded. We took a little bit of our entrees and put it on a small plate for her while we waited for the substitution, which I’m glad we did.. because it took well over 20 minutes since “food is prepared in the order it’s input and it’s busy tonight” as our server stated. No rush because they messed up and took the WHOLE plate. At that point I sent it back as we were ready to leave and likely never...
