I stopped by the West Acres Mall while visiting Fargo and just happened upon a large display case containing artifacts and displays in tribute to one of the New York Yankees M&M boys, Roger Maris. It was a great surprise for me, and I spent more than an hour reading and looking at almost everything in the display. This, come to find out is regarded as the Roger Maris Museum. The display contains several homerun balls hit by Roger during that Historic 1961 season when he broke Babe Ruth’s single season homerun record. I also got to sit and a real seat from old Yankee Stadium while watching video clips from that 1961 season. Also on display is a replica of Roger’s monument that stand in Yankee Stadium’s Monument Park along with a replica of his Yankee Locker. This museum is on one of the hallways in the West Acres Mall and includes a small seating area (with baseball stadium seats from Yankee Stadium) and a looped video.
Maris a native of Hibbing Minnesota, was all class and only agreed to have this museum available if there was no charge as he did not feel it was right to capitalize on his success. So this was built in 1984 and remodeled in 2003.
