The Sweet Palette — Restaurant in Fayetteville

I had a very poor experience with the sweet palette. On October 2nd I was emailing the owner back and forth about my sons 4th birthday cake order, was told it would be ready on October 12, and I could be at the bakery at 9 to pick it up. On that morning I showed up to pick up my cake as scheduled and there was NO CAKE, an hour before my sons birthday started. I was told “something fell through the cracks” and there was no cake made. They were able to manage to throw something together within 30 minutes, yet their sugar edible screen print machine was broken so I had to peel off the picture that was used before I started to serve the guests. Although cupcakes were managed to be thrown together in time of the party, the owner has not once reached out to me herself to apologize for the mistake or the very huge inconvenience. We ordered a birthday cake which was completed on time and ready for pick up as requested. The baker was given a picture of the cake we wanted duplicated. We were told it was no problem. Upon inspection at pick up we noticed the cake was not flat and even on the surface, but somewhat lumpy on top. We further inspected the cake at home and saw that the quality of the cake was mediocre at best, it was similar to the quality of a good home baker, not a professional baker. After cutting into the cake later at the party the flavor was good but the cake was very, very dense and the texture was a bit dry. Our usual bakery had unfortunately gone out of business and we tried Sweet Palette as an alternative, I don't think I will be trying this bakery again for cakes/cupcakes. I had been wanting to try this place for a while as I always drove past it, and has a beautiful exterior design. The Jack Skellington is what really drew me into the store lol now that being said, I purchased 2 cupcakes and they were subpar. I expected this place to have delicious gourmet cupcakes as they are a bakery, and instead they tasted like grocery store cupcakes. The cupcakes weren’t rich at all (purchased nutella/peanut butter), which is what you usually expect from a place that specializes in desserts. The person working the cash register was also dry and short, like she didn’t really want to answer my questions. From the outside it really looks like a boutique dessert shop but it’s really not. Maybe they were having an off day who knows. I would still go back to try other items...
