It's been a whole year since my girlfriend and I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Yi's Traditional Korean Beef Soup, and the memory still lingers like a dream. This remarkable gem of a restaurant left an indelible mark on our hearts, and I simply can't resist sharing our unforgettable experience.
From the moment we walked through the door, the warm and inviting atmosphere set the stage for an exceptional dining adventure. The cozy interior was adorned with subtle Korean touches, creating an ambiance that felt both authentic and comfortable. It was the perfect setting for a romantic meal.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show – the Traditional Korean Beef Soup. It was a revelation of flavors and textures that transported us straight to Seoul. The broth, simmered to perfection, was rich and deeply satisfying. Every spoonful felt like a warm hug on a chilly day, and we couldn't get enough of it.
The tender beef slices, so delicately cooked, practically melted in our mouths. They were the epitome of savory perfection, and we savored each bite with sheer delight. The accompanying vegetables added a delightful crunch and a burst of freshness to the ensemble, making it a harmonious symphony of flavors.
But what truly set Yi's apart was the attention to detail and the authenticity of their dishes. It was evident that they took immense pride in crafting a meal that stayed true to its Korean roots. The banchan, the side dishes that accompanied our meal, were a delightful surprise. The kimchi was a spicy revelation, and the various pickles and vegetables added complexity to the meal.
The service was equally exceptional, with the staff displaying genuine warmth and attentiveness. They guided us through the menu with patience, making sure we were comfortable with our choices. It felt like we were guests in their home, and that personal touch made our dining experience all the more memorable.
As we reminisce about that evening, it's not just the food that stands out but the entire experience. Yi's Traditional Korean Beef Soup offered us a taste of Korea right here in our own city, and it's a culinary adventure we'll cherish forever. It was the perfect date night, a delightful journey of flavors, and an opportunity to savor the magic of...
Read moreReview in July 2025: Came back to Yi’s a year later since I was in the area and the brisket seollangtang soup is still good! I feel like the service was better than last time and the server was very kind in giving explanations of their menu.
Some of the best Korean sullung tang (ox bone broth soup) in the Greater Seattle area. This restaurant has been around the Federal Way area for a long time and is a favorite of mine and many others. This is a chain with a presence all across the country as well! Highly recommend the brisket sullung tang.
Food The sullung tang is a must try when you come here with your choice of meat. I personally like the brisket but there is tongue or tripe as well. The soup is very clean and neutral when it first comes out so you can add the course salt and pepper found on the table to adjust to your liking. There is a choice between wheat noodles or sweet potato starch noodles. Both are super good but the sweet potato noodles is a classic combo with the soup. They give plenty of meat as well which is always nice. I got the 12 piece dumplings and they were alright. Plenty of filling in each one. The sweet dipping sauce is really good here though and separates it from other places with dumplings. The side dish kimchi and radish are also usually pretty good!
Atmosphere The restaurant is definitely cozy and gives a nice warm feeling while you eat your soup. Tables will only really seat up to 4 people and there isn’t the option to combine tables or get a bigger table. Noise level can be a little loud. Really gives a Korean restaurant feeling.
Pricing The prices are average for a sullung tang compared to other Korean restaurants that serve the same dish or other Korean soups. The seafood pancake is a little overpriced I think. The dumplings are still worth it at 12 pc for 14.99 for the portion size and taste.
Service Service was fast and all the staff is very friendly. Despite being very busy on a Saturday night with full tables and a wait list they would check in to make sure everything was okay. English speaking here as well.
Other The parking lot can be a little cramped since shared with other restaurant next door and not a ton of space around. Make sure to write your name on...
Read moreA Bowl of Comfort and Tradition Walking in here, the air is thick with the savory, comforting aroma of a broth that has been simmering for hours. It’s the kind of scent that instantly wraps you in warmth, promising a meal that is both deeply satisfying and familiar. This establishment isn't just a place to eat; it's a a tribute to the soul-soothing power of traditional Korean soup.
My recent visit was centered around the Gomtang, a beef bone broth soup. The broth arrived at the table steaming, a milky-white hue hinting at the decades of culinary tradition behind it. A spoonful revealed a flavor so rich and profound, yet subtly clean. It was clear that this was no ordinary broth; it was the result of a slow, meticulous process, extracting every bit of flavor from the bones without a hint of greasiness. The tender slices of brisket and rice noodles were the perfect companions, soaking up the broth's essence and adding texture to each spoonful.
What truly elevated the meal is their kimchi and purple rice that arrived alongside the soup. The perfectly fermented kimchi offered a spicy, tangy counterpoint to the gentle flavor of the broth, while the crunchy pickled radish provided a sharp, refreshing palate cleanser. They were not just accompaniments but essential players in the symphony of flavors, each one carefully crafted and an experience in itself.
The service was prompt and attentive, and the minimalist, casual decor of the restaurant allowed the food to be the undisputed star of the show. They don’t try to be anything it's not; it’s an honest, dedicated purveyor of a classic dish.
For anyone seeking an authentic, heartwarming meal that feels like a hug in a bowl, this is the place to go. It's a genuine taste of Korea, served with a generous helping of...
