So I just moved to Flagstaff today and decided to have a few cocktails and dinner at the Annex Cocktail Lounge. Now the first time I been here at the Amex it was awesome back in 2021 and my recent visit was less enjoyable. So I was first welcomed by the bar back (very nice acknowledging woman) and was served the cocktails I ordered, which were good. As the bar back left for the night, I was no longer acknowledged and it seemed it was because of my skin color. I noticed all the other Caucasian guests being served and acknowledged before i was. I had ordered the fried Brussel Sprouts and it was great. Only after, maybe after 30 minutes my empty plate was finally taken away. After another 10 minutes or so, the bartender finally asked if I needed anything, I asked for a refill on water, another cocktail and a Cobb salad. Now the food and cocktails were great so don’t get me wrong but it was only the fact that I was feeling like I was literally the black sheep in the crowd here, due to my skin color. I’ve worked in the food and beverage industry for some time now working for the JW Marriott and even assisting opening a fine dining establishment myself. I’d like to think it was a busy Friday night and that’s where the delayed acknowledgment came from but I was literally the only Native American in this establishment (at least in the bar area). I am willing to come back to try again and look forward to the food and cocktails, but will lower my standards as far as the service and acknowledgment goes. I was the Native American sitting at the corner of the bar area in a Social Distortion shirt with tattoos on my face on 8/26/2022 around 8pm till 9:30pm,...
Read moreUnfortunately this experience was a BUST. We visit Flagstaff 5-7 times a year as we find it very relaxing. This time we decided to have some after dinner drinks with my friends and thought this place would be a great. Started off bad from the start. We selected a table that was empty only to find it was dirty and the chairs were wet from someone spilling their drinks on them, not their fault just bad timing on our part. So we decided to go outside to the patio. Found it challenging to get a drink and late night dessert. The waitress could have been new but should have been better prepared. Not a lot of knowledge of what they had to offer, asked about 3 different liquors and struck out all 3 times. Ended up getting a couple of lattes and two fourth choice drinks along with a so so chocolate mousse dessert. One would think if you go to a cocktail lounge it would have the basic liquors ie. Jack D, Crown Royal but not my shop. One last item to share. The music playing in the background didn’t match the concept and was offensive. That might be why the patio was empty, which in my experience would have been full if properly maintained and staffed. It’s Saturday night people want to relax and enjoy a drink with friends. I know we did the night before.
Ended up leaving and going to another place. Not sure if we would go back. I will consider still going to the other 2 concepts restaurants, Tinderbox & Tourist that we eat at every time we visit. Best of luck and hope this doesn’t fall...
Read moreI came in tonight with my girlfriend. We have previously visited tourist cafe twice, both were lovely experiences so we were looking forward to coming in tonight.
The good: the burger, pot pie, and cookie desert were superb. The pot pie was clearly made with scratch and love, the burger perfectly cooked to request and the cookie absolutely molten in the center and crispy on the outside.
The bad: when we arrived, we were sat and no one came up to us for a little while. Some girls we had assumed were hostesses were chatting up front until one came up and greeted us. This took about 8 minutes but nothing heinous. We ordered cheddar popcorn, a bottle coke and a cocktail at this point. About 15 minutes later, we received them. We ordered our mains at this point because we wanted to make sure they came out in a timely fashion. They came out I would say about 20 minutes later. We finished them and about an hour into our night, we had seen our server twice, both times to take our order. Another server came and asked if we would like anything else, which we responded we would like the cookie. The cookie took about 20-25 minutes.
To summarize my far too detailed review, the food was lovely but the service was lacking in attention and it felt like with 4 tables outside and just a few inside, this could have been a 45 minute...
