Remember when you go over to grandma's house and it was early in the day and she would serve you breakfast? The food was always surprising yet familiar. The food was always hot, delicious and yes, way too over portioned. My grandma was french and served a lot of polish dishes. But if my grandma would have been mexican, I can't imagine the food, breakfast and experience would have been anything but sympatico with my breakfast this morning at MartAnne's.
The restaurant is an all day cafe, but has wonderful specialized dishes for each meal time. My breakfast was a 3 egg omelet with ham, tomatoes, chilis, green sauce, and cheese. But that is just the center of the plate. It comes with mexican rice, charro beans, a huge amount of shredded hashbroan potatoes and a tasty tortilla for sopping up that green sauce. Oh. My. Goodness.
Because I was competing in sports later, I asked for them to make it a 2 egg omelet instead of three and hoped for simply that- a small breakfast. Not possible at MartAnne's. Even with the egg count reduced, the plate was enough for two people. I tried everything, and it was fabulous. And even though I had to leave a lot on the plate to be able to function later, the flavors and excellence of the meal was worth a 5 star review.
In the addition to the great food, the staff was tremendous. Waitress, servers, and front staff all were instant with any request, smiling, kind and helpful. Check in, seating, ordering, serving and payment were all done perfectly and efficiently.
The restaurant is located just off of historic Route 66 just a half block past San Francisco St. The fashioned walls and tables are a warm and brilliant version of the Sante Muerte decor, which makes the whole experience feel complete. Making me really wish I grew up with a third grandma who was Mexican.
Price wise, everything was spot on. You can order good sized breakfast for under 10, or you can get their specials with massive portions for $12-14 each. Somehow, even post pandemic, they've managed to keep things reasonable.
I will return at least once to this eatery in the next 2 days, I guarantee it....
Read moreTook my mother this morning 09/19/24 at around 11am who is suffering from Cancer and is not doing too well. She still wants to go out and enjoy things such as dining out sometimes.
Due to her type of cancer, sometimes when she eats she throws up. She is very embarrassed about this . like I said it’s cancer so if she wants to go out and eat, I’m going to take her out to enjoy what life she has left.
When we sat down I walked over to the front with my mom under the impression that I was going to the restroom.
I politely asked the server if we could sit in the dining area by the restrooms and explained to her the situation. The server was polite and said she would ask my server whose name was ANNE, an older Caucasian lady with long blonde hair probably in her mid 50s.
ANNE walked up and proceeds to act like I’m asking to borrow money and states that “management would say no, so it’s going to be no” . Then she states that if she lets us sit there then everyone that comes in is going to want to sit there and it’s going to make her job harder.
I didn’t know how to even respond to that because again I was not giving attitude or aggressive and Just simply asked if we could possibly sit by the restroom because my mom sometimes throws up when she eats due to cancer and she gets embarrassed.
After she just walked away, the initial server who I talked to who was obviously now uncomfortable, said that we could sit there if we wanted but looked confused probably because of how passive aggressive ANNE was being.
I said it was okay and said we would just stay put. My mom did end up having to run to the restroom a few times . We just ended up taking the food to go unfortunately.
I live here and we’ve always had a good experience but ANNE was terrible. Also turns out the owner is ANNE which is pretty funny because she lied to me as well.
That was an easy no tip for me. Definitely lost my business and will no longer be recommending tourists to...
Read moreWe are traveling cross country from California to South Carolina, and our first night's stop is in Flagstaff, Arizona. We decided to give MartAnnes Burrito Palace a try because we love good Mexican food and the restaurant is rated well. We arrived at the restaurant about 4:30 on a Monday afternoon and were immediately seated. At that time there were only a couple other parties dining, although by the time we left about an hour later the place was nearly full. The atmosphere is quite colorful, with walls painted bright red and turquoise that are covered by interesting art work. As for the food, my wife decided on La Chimichanga with shredded beef and I ordered seafood enchiladas. Neither of us were disappointed by either the quality or the quantity of the food. La Cimichanga was stuffed with meat and cheese, topped with a generous dollop of guacamole, and adorned with excellent green and red sauces. Everything was top quality and full of flavor. The seafood enchiladas were also delicious, stuffed with cheese, smothered with sauces, and topped with crab and shrimp. We also ordered chips and salsa to go with our meals and agreed that the salsa was one of the best restaurant salsas we had tasted. My iced tea was clear and crisp and the service was friendly and efficient. And given the amount and quality of the food, I felt the price was quite reasonable. All in all, an excellent meal. I would certainly return in the future when in the Flagstaff area.
Sept 2023 - We are traveling from South Carolina to California this time and looked forward to another visit to Mart Annes Burrito Palace. My wife ordered chicken tacos and I had carne asada with a cheeese enchilada. We both enjoyed our food. The meals were very tasty and the carne asade plate was more food than I could comfortably consume. Our server was very friendly and helpful, and I appreciated the large servings of ice tea in mason jars. The tea was...
