Show me a Thai restaurant when I’m visiting town, and I’ll show you where I am having dinner. I had spied Dara Thai was running around Flagstaff one afternoon on my travels, and made mental note of location. I had a taste for some curry-infused heat and goodness. Dara Thai did not disappoint. Located on San Francisco only a couple of blocks south of the railroad and Route 66, it is in a rather bohemian part of town with interesting cafes and breweries. Although I did not finally get around to dining that Friday night until after darkness had set in the June summer night, they were happy to serve me. I ordered their namesake Dara Tofu, which was served within minutes. The lightly fried tofu was swimming in a red curry peanut and coconut milk sauce, along with spinach, potatoes, and peanuts. A side serving of rice complemented the meal, providing additional starch. As per my norm, I opted for “3” on the 1 to 5 heat scale. I really need to get a little bolder than this, because I have grown so accustomed to this level that it barely elicits a sniffle these days. YMMV, though. Like so many Thai restaurants, choosing can be difficult if only because there are so many choices. Dara Thai offers no fewer than five complete pages of entrees, which means I have quite a few reasons to return. There is an entire page of vegetarian options, which made me particularly happy, although omnivores will find plenty to eat as well. Well done, Dara Thai! Next time I return to Flag, I’ll stop by again.

Dara Thai Restaurant is a full service, full menu Thai food eatery in Flagstaff with good flavor, reasonable prices and kind staff. Rounding up a trip to Flagstaff, this was the last meal we had here before traveling home. This was a perfect wrap up for hungry family and friends to enjoy a meal. The restaurant is actually well spaced with 2 rooms for dining plus a full bar area with additional tables. The decor is standard Taiwanese drapings, statues and such. The facility is large enough for a party or group but also has smaller tables for an intimate date. Located just south of the tracks near old town Flagstaff, it works for a nice getaway from the largely American foods and coffee shops filling the area. I ordered the Garlic with meat entrée (51) amd had it with pork. The flavors were excellent and the portion was large. It came with a cup of rice, and garnished with cilantro and cabbage. I also order chicken fried rice with chicken and veggies, which was likewise very tasty. The final item I enjoyed was the wonton soup with chicken, which was served in a flame heated collander bowl. Yummy. Other family and friends had pad thai, penang curry and more. Everyone said the dishes were spot on. For me, the only thing I need to do was ask for a bit more spice, which is pretty much standard for every Thai restaurant I go to. The prices were reasonable, and the service was good.

Stopped by for lunch looking at the rating, but should have dug into the reviews instead. Large space, was all empty when we went and the space had a distinct unpleasant smell. Ordered 4 items - papaya salad, drunken noodles, fried rice, thai curry.. each item lacked flavor and seasoning ( seasoning not as in hotness from chilies). Large sliced tomatoes in the salad and drunken noodles were just odd. Would not recommend going if you enjoy a well cooked, flavorful meal! Asked for extra plates to share the meal, and 2 plates had to be sent back as they weren’t clean. The replacement plates were different, surprised me that with not a single customer in a restaurant plates of the same kind were hard to get. Staff was courteous and the restrooms were clean.

PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT, WORST SERVICE AND WORST THAI FOOD !!!!!! worst thai food ever. on top of tht the management is big time disappointment. we had our worst ever experience ever. this is what happened.. we were a group of 6 adults and 3 kids... we were given seats, but nobody cared to give us the menu card. Upon asking, the response from the waitress was very rude. Fine, we thought may be they are stressed out with long weekend. while taking our order, when my wife asked for some cashew nuts on side, the waitress rudely smiled as if we are asking for too much.. she behaved similarly with my other friends. we ordered soup, they gave everything and soup was brought very late. and when we asked where the soup was, the waitress's look was again as if we are asking for unnecessary things. on top of all this, they gave a chicken dish to my friend who is a strict vegetarian. when we informed them (not complained) their response was pretty lame and no sign of any apology. in the mean time my wife requested extra rice, no one cared to bring it for 10mins and we had to request again. everyone on the table was pretty upset by now. we were very furious by now. i went and asked the lady on the reception about it and told her about the whole situation. i told her about the waitress and how rude she was. this lady, the only person and the daughter of the owner, apologized for our bad experience. she said tht they wont charge for the chicken dish. i told her that we wont pay any gratuity to the waitress for her rude behavior. their response was astonishing, they said that gratutity we will have to pay. after some diacussion this nice lady agreed to us not paying the gratuity. however when the bill came they added charge for salad (which is normally included with their lunch). when we asked tht this was supposed to be included, they said that the owner will explain. the owner was the most rude person in the restaurant. she explained that they charges because my friend who did not pay for the chicken dish, but still ate the salad. This was ridiculous... my friend had ordered a proper vegetarian dish, but it was completely their mistake.. ofcourse she started eating salad assuming she will get the right meal. it seemed the owner didnt like the fact that we refused to pay for gratuity. Gratutity is something i would always like to pay but it is voluntary. i understand that with a big group a lot of reataurants charge it automatically. But if service is so bad, or if a customer is not satisfied they should have honored our request. The owner instead of apologizing, started to yelling on us as if it was our mistake from beginning. i told her that i will pay for the salad, but will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Apart from this incredibly poor service (which may be not everyone might experience) the food quality was very very bad. we all love thai food, but this was the worst food taste wise too. sorry for such a long review. but believe me, this is my first ever review on any restaurant and you can understand how bad we...

LONG WAIT, RUDE WAITERS, MEDIOCRE FOOD

I've never been unsatisfied about a place enough to write a review, but in my 1h30 minute wait for food (not including seating) I've had some time to put something together.

Our waitress didn't think to bring us water, and it took us asking her twice over the span of 45m for her to bring us water for half of our table, after which we had to ask again for the rest. Food itself took 1h30 total. We saw the table next to us (different waitress) come and go. We saw another table (same waitress) waiting just as long. Tables were empty near us so the restaurant wasn't at capacity. We tracked down our waitress 3-5 times, starting at the hour mark, about ETA on the food. She finally told us the food would come in 10m MAX. The first dish came 20m later, and the remaining dishes for our party of five came in increments of 5m.

The waitress, as well as another we flagged down because ours had gone MIA, were both very dismissive. We explained our 1h+ wait, and that the food even then exceeded the 10m max as promised. They told us there were 2 chefs in the kitchen and that's "just how it goes." A 1h30 wait is NOT how it goes, and at least warrants a brief "sorry for the wait" which we did not receive from either waitress. Even if it was on the chefs, the staff were deadpan and unsympathetic.

Food was fine but inauthentic – I got a classic drunken noodle which tasted different from any other drunken noodle dish I've ever ordered. My mom's curry dish was missing one of the vegetables listed in the menu. My brother told our waitress about some food allergies, but I hardly trust these were actually taken into account. Food portions were small, but that might just be the long wait talking.

Tldr; don't come here unless you have 2 hours to spare, good company, and a charged phone. Food wasn't...

I have lived in Flagstaff for about 13 years. I loved this place when I was younger. The service was good and the food was delicious. Now though, I can’t really say the same thing. Going there on slow days or even on a busy night you get terrible service. Your server will do their best to ignore you no matter how much you try to get their attention. You won’t be greeted by someone when you walk-in and you will stand their awkwardly by the please wait to be seated sign till someone decides to help you. When you get to your table you will be left there for at least 10 minutes to look over your menu while you wait for your server to appear from the back. There are no happy faces here, just people who look annoyed that you decided to come into their restaurant and bother them for food. The food plating is terrible. It looks like someone threw everything together as quickly as they could and plopped it on a plate. The food is also bland; where there used to be seasoning and contrast in taste there is now bland and not spicy or bland and really spicy. There is no melody of flavor, just spicy and not spicy. On multiple occasions I have gotten really sick from eating here. Since I usually get the chicken I am convinced it has either been sitting to long and has started to go bad or is under cooked, which is doubtful considering how rubbery it is. I am terrible at trying new places which is why I continued to go there until my friends made me try Pato Thai. It was amazing. I hate curry and theirs is the only curry I will now eat. It’s 2 blocks north and definitely worth the...
