I’ve been to Angelo’s 3 times now and after last night, I will not be going back. That was the worst experience I’ve ever had in my life at a dining establishment. I am not typically confrontational and I despise sending food back. I can’t remember the last time I have, honestly. But I ordered a medium well steak with French fries. It’s how I always order my steak no matter where I go. Per Angelo’s menu, a medium well steak is cooked all the way through, NO char. Upon receiving my steak, it was very much charred in addition to the fries being both cold and stale. (Which I’ve had issues with their fries every single visit). There was no ketchup or steak sauce on the table so our waitress (Tiffany, I believe) returned with our sauce and asked how everything was. I very politely told her my issue with my plate. She was sweet and said “No problem.” I was relieved. For approximately 2 minutes until some older lady (I was told her name is Kelly) abruptly came up to my table with my plate in hand, no introductions, no greeting. Just to berate me in front of a room filled with other customers about my steak. Honestly, I don’t know which was grilled more.. Me or my poor steak. The first words out of her mouth were “You ordered a medium Well steak. This is a medium well steak.” She was insisting that wasn’t char, that it was merely grill marks. I was trying to explain the crispy edges and the burnt char taste. She went back and forth with me before asking “What are you wanting us to do? How do you want us to make it? Do you want us to wrap it in foil so there aren’t grill marks?” It was incredibly condescending. I relented and told her if there has to be some pink, that’s fine. But I don’t want a charred steak. She huffed a dramatic sigh of relief then informed me now she has to go to the other side of the restaurant to get a new steak since this side is closed. As if I’m inconveniencing her. I was appalled. I said “thank you so much” dismissing her because I wasn’t going to continue that conversation. As to why it would be closed an hour before closing time, I wouldn’t know. But somehow that was my fault. Had my steak been made correctly the first time, she wouldn’t need to go get a new steak. After awhile a very polite man came out with my steak and asked if I’d cut it right then to make sure it’s correct and it was. It was perfect and I could tell the fries were fresh. He told me it was hard to cook a steak all the way through and not char it. Yet their wasn’t a single char in sight so I told him it was perfect and that I appreciate them remaking it. He admitted to me that the one I received was in fact charred. The lady never came back out to apologize for being wrong. Not that it would have made it better. So I spent over $100 on two plates and two appetizers to be insulted, talked down to, argued with, and have my entire dinner experience ruined. So is dealing with her then eating my food after everyone is finished supposed to be enjoyable? Absolutely unacceptable. I have never been spoken to that way. No one should have that experience. As a local, I now know which place not to recommend when tourists ask. (Photos are the before and after steaks. I’m sure you can tell which one...
Read moreI can't believe this place has such high reviews...Went here for my husband's aunt's 50th birthday. Upon walking in...it looked like it was stuck in the 70's, it had a western theme...It wasn't horrible...but definitely not really a nice steakhouse vibe either. The waitress was friendly at first, brought our menus...I was pretty surprised to see the prices on their kids menu...15-17ish dollars. Seemed a bit much for some of the choices (burger, chicken fingers, etc) I ordered the Ladies sirloin and it came with a salad and baked potato. The salad was brought out first...it looked like a bag of salad was dumped in the bowl (like literally a bag that had been sitting in the refrigerator for a week) and they threw 1 slice of cucumber, and 1 grape tomato...I was not impressed. lol The ranch dressing was the only thing redeeming about the salad. The waitress took quite a while bringing our drinks. Then we were brought our dinners...it didn't take too terribly long...but again...For the price we paid, it was horrible. The baked potato was hard on the inside...not light and fluffy like a baked potato should be. The steak was mediocre...I probably could have made much better at home. At least it was cooked decently..I ordered medium, and it came medium. My son had ordered the kids steak burger. He got it and after he had taken one bite said how dry it was. His uncle tried it, and said it was horrible...said the bread was stale, the beef literally tasted like it was old, and it was "as tough as a shoe." We sent it back...the waitresses attitude with our table immediately changed. She got really rude...like she was frustrated. It obviously wasn't her fault...but come on now...No need to be rude because we're sending food back to the kitchen. While we were there, we were hearing happy birthday being sung to customers in other parts of the restaurant. I guess the others in our party had let the restaurant know that it was somebody in our parties 50th birthday. They didn't bother to do anything special. Then they were talking about it at the table while the birthday girl had went to the bathroom. I guess the waitress had overheard. So she brought a piece of pie over (mind you...the birthday girl was still in the bathroom) She sat it down on the table and lit the candle while she wasn't even sitting there. It was very strange. Like for real, why would you do that? Then she was very hurriedly getting all of our checks and evidently wasn't happy with the tips she had gotten...our table tipped her between the different checks nearly $50....now service wasn't good...and I feel like it's more than she deserved...but that seemed to set her off even more...I heard her comment " That's crazy". Y'all, take your business elsewhere...Texas Roadhouse would have been a much better choice with much better food and better service and probably a...
Read moreI seldom write reviews and I could have never imagined that I would ever write the review shown below about this particular resturant, but I felt I had no choice.
My family and I have been coming to Panama City and the beach since the late 70’s & early 80’s for our main summer vacations, often visiting in June and back again in August. As with most families, very early we developed several favorite restaurants that quickly became a “must eat there family tradition” when we were in Panama City, sometimes eating and enjoying these favorite restaurants multiple times each vacation visit. At the top of my families list was “Angelo’s Steak Pit!” The food was always great, and the service and ambience were great too! Not only has this restaurant provided lots of great food to our family but it has also been a source of many wonderful nostalgic memories with our family, including my late mother who first brought me to the restaurant the first time in the late 1960’s.
This past Saturday evening I took my wife and sister to “Angelo’s” with mouth watering anticipation of the steak dinners we were about to enjoy … but unfortunately, that is not what happened!
We ordered the “T” Bone Steaks for which they are famous, to be cooked medium rare. 35-45 minutes later the steaks were brought to the table which had been cooked “well to medium well.” I do not think many people desire to pay $60.+ per steak and it be cooked “well done” because the steak loses its flavor and the meat becomes tough.
I made several cuts and showed the state of the meat to the waitress. She was apologetic and said she would take them back and reorder. My sister decided she would try to eat her over cooked steak (it had been along time since breakfast, and we were very hungry) but was only able to eat a few bites due to its over-cooked state. Some 30 minutes +- later the waitress returned with another steak. I cut the second steak and it was actually more “well done and tough” than the first steaks brought to us. The waitress ask what I wanted to do. I expressed my displeasure with the circumstance to the waitress, and thinking a member of management may have interest in this situation and would come and speak with me, but no management ever came to the table even though the waitress indicated they were aware. We quickly left the restaurant without further discussion or incidents.
At this point, we had now been at the restaurant for approximately 90 minutes and still unable to eat. I was so disappointed … I ask for nothing more than the check. The waitress did provide a partial credit for one of the steaks.
Unfortunately, and with much regret, I can not recommend this restaurant to friends and...
