2020: I visited this restaurant not remembering I had been here once before 😅. When I came to leave a 3 star review, I saw I had left one already! I tried different menu items and my score does not change. We visitied for dinner on Aug 5 and sat in the back in a nice outdoor area with lights every and a good ambiance. The drinks were, by far, the worst drinks we've ever ordered at a restaurant. In our group, we tried 5 different drinks and none of them were good. The vodka lime mint drink tasted like flat soda water, the margarita tasted like watered down sour mix, the jalapeno margarita tasted like jalapeño soda water, and the michelada (off menu) had way too much tomato sauce.
For food this time around, I ordered the mahi mahi, and while it came with a delicious mango sauce on top, the actual fish itself was overcooked and as a result very dry. Luckily, it was doused in the mango sauce, but I would have liked to enjoy some fresh fish. My boyfriend ordered a pork entree and while he thought it was delicious, it was a pretty small entree. It came with pork, a tiny pile of rice, 2 plantains, and 2 corn tortillas. He would have actually preferred some veggies over the corn tortillas.
2015: The service was excellent. Waiter was very friendly and attentive. Gave it three stars because the lime sauce for the Ceviche tasted more like water than it did lime. Salsa with the chips and salsa was good. For my entree I got the shrimp tacos which were good with this chipotle mayo sauce. My boyfriend got steak taco but it did not come with much. Just the steak on the flour tortilla with a little sliver of avocado on top and pico de gallo on the side. All in all we will probably check out all the other restaurants on St George...
Read moreFirst of all. WOW. We had no understanding of why this place was slow. Maybe because it was a Tuesday but I’ve spent more money on restaurants on a Tuesday for wayyyy less (example: casa Reina ahem) we started with something simple to further decide whether we actually wanted to eat at this locations. Any Mexican food spot that doesn’t pass the chips and salsa vibe and drink does not continue. It wasn’t best chips and salsa but definitely good enough, they serve tostadas and salsa which quite frankly earned a whole point in Mexican for me. The other vibe point was the DJ, gringo hubby loved the jams. We ordered our food and OMG…blown away by the entrees. We had the carnitas, hubby loved them so much he ordered a plate to go. I ordered Camarones Al Guajillo. Wow…I would have never in my life thought all of those flavors meshed so well. Anywho, I would have licked the plate clean. On top our our amazing food and drinks we bought our kid a tres leches and we sneaked a couple of bites. So spongey and delicious! Everything was so good! I was happy we stumbled on this place last chance! (For context we had our small child ang chihuahua, the patio was pet friendly and child friendly 😌) we WILL 1,000% be coming again!!!
Edit: if only I could edit a half a point to take away. There was no hand soap or toilet paper in the bathroom. Had there been after I told an employee and she assured us she’d put some, the second trip assured she didn’t do either.) :( I’ve worked in restaurant , I looked under the sink cabinet to do it myself and there was nothing but rags, an old mag of auggy and some treseme hair product. Trust me, had the stuff been there I would have...
Read moreI recently dined at Casa Maya in St. Augustine, FL, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The evening began with a fantastic live music show that truly set the tone for a memorable night. The talented musicians created a lively yet relaxing ambiance that perfectly complemented the restaurant's warm and inviting atmosphere.
The service was impeccable, with attentive and friendly staff ensuring that we were well taken care of throughout our meal. For appetizers, we indulged in a delicious spread of chips, salsa, fresh guacamole, and queso. Each component was fresh and flavorful, providing a great start to our dining experience.
For my entrée, I chose the Hanger Steak, which was an absolute delight. The steak was perfectly marinated and char-grilled, paired beautifully with their homemade chimichurri sauce. It was served with creamy mashed potatoes and the fresh vegetable of the day, which happened to be asparagus. This dish, priced at $34.99, was worth every penny.
To accompany my meal, I opted for a refreshing pink lemonade. It was the perfect beverage to complement the rich flavors of the food.
An interesting fact about St. Augustine: it is the oldest continuously inhabited European-established settlement in the continental United States, founded in 1565. This historic charm adds an extra layer of allure to the dining experience at Casa Maya.
Casa Maya delivered an exceptional dining experience with excellent food, top-notch service, and a wonderful ambiance enhanced by live music. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable meal in...
