I will start off by saying this review is from my most recent experience and only deals with management, not the establishment as a whole.
I have been a patron of Lulu's Bait Shack for at least a decade now and I have never had any complaints. My previous girlfriend used to live on Fort Lauderdale Beach and we would go to Lulu's for lunch at least 2 - 3 times a week for the couple of years we were together as well as for industry night and many happy hours, and never a single complaint.
However, this past Saturday evening (February 28th, 2015) I was treated very poorly by the manager. I showed up to meet with a few friends who also frequent Lulu's regularly and when I sat down I asked the waitress for a beer, she immediately asked me for ID. I told her my wallet was recently stolen and that I didn't have a new drivers license yet and she told me she could not serve me. I told her I'm obviously over the age of 21 (30 next May) but if she couldn't I understand.
Shen then offered to get the manager to see if he could make a judgement call and override her decision. I said that would be great. The manager came over about five minutes later and immediately began to berate me and another adult at the table that didn't have identification on him. He said in an aggressive manner "If you don't have ID you can't drink and if I catch either of you drinking I will immediately kick you out of here!"
Everyone at the table was blown back by his aggressive nature and tone. I am not sure what the waitress told him that warranted that attitude but I assure you none of us were being disrespectful by any means.
I told the manager we were just inquiring and that we didn't expect anything and he responded by saying "Let me catch you drinking!"
His attitude ruined everyone's evening turning a fun night out into a sour memory. A couple of the guys at the table reflected this when they left no tip adding the description that it was due to the managers nature, one younger guy went a little too far and drew a phallic image on his receipt, information to which I was not privy.
We then went to the front of the restaurant while a few others were using the restroom. In the bathroom it was discovered that someone had defecated in a urinal, something that some of the homeless people in the area would do which is difficult to control in Beach Place. One of our guys told this to the manager in case he wasn't aware and was again berated but the manager had already known and didn't seem to care much about alleviating the situation.
Shortly after that while waiting for one more friend to finish using the restroom the manager approached my friends and I with the receipt that had the phallic symbol on it. He yelled at us asking who the receipt belonged to. I looked him in the eye and he immediately assumed it was me, he yelled at me even more, said I was banned for life and asked the police officers that were dining there to have me removed. I spoke up and said "excuse me,but you never served me so I had no receipt to sign and you were very disrespectful." He began to yell some more and knowing that the situation wasn't going to get any better, I decided to walk away.
After over 10 years of going to Lulu's I was shocked that I was treated this way. I have never encountered that manager before, but I will be sure to avoid Lulu's on weekend nights from now on. It put a bad taste in my mouth and ruined my night (which was my first day off in several weeks).
Again, I have nothing bad to say about Lulu's when it comes to my previous experiences, but that manager was out of control and very...
Read moreI have been coming to Lulu's Bait Shack for over ten years now and have also recommended this place to lots of people but never again. My husband and I came last week to hang out and have a few drinks and enjoy the scenery. The hostess are the worst especially one particular female who needs an attitude adjustment. When we got there, I told the hostess that we wanted to sit at a table that was alongside the beach and I even pointed to the tables that I was talking about. She said that there would be a wait for those tables. I let her know that we were fine with waiting for one of the tables to become available. My husband and I went to the bar to get a cocktail while we wait. Forty-minutes later I received the text letting us know that our table was ready. She wanted to sit me at a table that did I didn't want to sit at because it did not give us the view that we were looking for. She said to me very condescending that I could see the water from there too. Shocked and offended, I told her that we were very specific in our request and that we didn't mind the wait . I couldn't believe that she was the hostess. There were actually two hostess who were not friendly, but she was the worse out of the two. Gave the manager my feedback, I didn't get his name but he was Asian he was nice but I truly think he brushed my feedback aside.
Today my husband and I came back. After watching the air show, we wanted to grab something to eat. The same hostess from last week was there and I had second thoughts about eating here again once I saw her, but I decided to give Lulu's another try. Asked this same hostess if there was in availability alongside the beach and I pointed again to the area that I was speaking of and she said, "No only the tables that I didn't want to sit at from last week were available." The tables that I am speaking of about three of those tables were available but I shrugged it off as maybe that section was closed since we came early this time around 1:00 p.m. Today we were a party of 4 last week we were a party of 2. Extremely shocked and offended again when I saw two parties of four's be seated at the very same tables that I was told were not available. Gave my feed back to the manager again and I believe he said his name was Rubin. Rubin assured me that he would address my issue. Like why can't she give "The Customer"...
Read moreTraveling from PA to Fla to meet a bunch of friends. Everyone agreed on Lulu's Bait Shack located across Fort Lauderdale Beach. We're there for dinner. It offered an excellent ocean view. It is located on the second floor of a multiple business complex. The staff was friendly and always catered to all our needs. Someone was always asking if we needed something, very professional. Lulu's caters to families, and it's more of a sports bar. Plenty of TVs to watch your favorite sport, and finger food. Tonight, it was not busy. Weird because they had live music, country/ rock/ pop easy to listen to while dining. It was a weird night for me eating. I had a house salad. Clean, all was fresh. Then, I was in the mood for some chips and queso (white cheese). Maybe because in Dallas at Mariano's, they only offered yellow cheese, not authentic Mexican. The chips were crunchy, and the queso was surprisingly just perfect, not too thick nor watery. Who does this after a salad, i ordered 2 classic hot dogs and added the white queso with some fries. The dogs were thin, and i say this because they claim they are coney island style (NY city). You're probably asking what about drinks. Sorry, i had water. Plenty of beers and mixed drinks are offered, and the bar area is extensive. Listen, they cater to sports. The service is awesome. I wouldn't bring my kids for a family dinner, maybe during the day while at the beach. The food was good. The place was clean. I rate this...
