We expected a lot more. Went because my wife loves seafood. Our usual is Papadoux or Eddie V's. But my wife wanted to try it. We had an 8pm reservation. We arrived on time and were told our table was not ready. They then pushed us off to the bar area to wait. We got to the only open spot at the bar. I ordered a razzle dazzle and an espresso martini. Then we were told we can't stand where we were during our wait because the spot at the bar was reserved. But there is no one there. So the bartender took pity on us after watching his coworkers shuffling us around like we were vagabonds instead of paying customers. He let us wait, and after asking again, they finally had our table ready. Finally, we have enjoyed many a dinner at Bonnell's off Bryant Irvin. Even have his autographed book. So again, high expectations. Started with some appetizers. Now if it's from the sea it's not for me. Here I am at a fish place. There are not many options for me. My wife had the dirty dozen oysters. That night had some from Australia. So very nice variety. She did enjoy them. Then we had the fried feta cheese on a bed of arugula. Definitely needed to be more of that than the one little deep-fried circle. I had gotten an order of hush puppies, which were good but very dry. So we move on to dinner. I had the only thing I could, which was the steak. 8oz filet. When cooked was like something, I would serve my kids. Just tiny. Remember everything is a la carte. We had the Haricots Verts ( fancy way to say green beans ) barely enough for one person. Not very good. Also, the Kennebec Fries ( French Fries) Cold at the time they hit the table. My wife had the crab cakes. Now she had heard good things and that is her favorite. Well, she was disappointed. They tasted frozen and not very good at all. For a Bonnell's restaurant, it was sad. The only way I could or would recommend this place is if they change many things. Not to sound cheap but to add some perspective. I don't have a problem spending $ 300.00 on dinner. But at least make it worth it. We honestly left with the never again after thought instead of can't...

I had wanted to go Waters for a very long time and finally in September 2024, my husband and I took my son and his wife for their anniversary. It was absolutely amazing! Our waitress was amazing! The food was better than amazing! It was SO good! We each ordered a different dish and had a taste of each one. WOW! We spent a lot of money that night on dinner and drinks but I would happily have done so again. I got my chance last night. My husband surprised me by taking me to Waters again, this time for our own anniversary. I was so excited! Sad to say, it turned out to be such a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT! First, our waitress seemed put out that we chose not to order drinks. (We’d already had some before we arrived for our reservation) She seemed equally put out that only one of us ordered an appetizer. And when a party of 4, (who ordered both drinks and appetizers) were seated at the table next to us, they became her primary focus. My second disappointment was that the menu had changed nor had it been updated on your website to reflect the change, so the dish (Artic Char) that I had looked forward to having was no longer available. I chose the salmon instead. I ordered it medium. When it arrived at the table, it was barely warm, not seasoned AT ALL, undercooked to the point of almost being raw and swimming in grease. Not wanting to make my husband feel bad and not wanting to annoy the waitress any further, I choked it down (somewhat to my detriment later that night). My husband ordered the ribeye. While having a nice flavor at least, it was rather thin and plopped on top of his kennebec fries, which like my salmon, was swimming in grease. For dessert we ordered the bourbon brownie. It too was very thin and flat and the bourbon cream was grainy and unpleasant. Based on my first experience, I had told everyone I knew how delicious Waters was, what a great experience we had and how it had been with every penny. Now I have to find them all and tell them I no longer...

This was a truly mixed experience. I sat myself on the Patio because i dress simple and the dining room was absolutely full of suits and dresses which led me to believe that i was going to enjoy top quality food and service. The service was very much up to par but the food was not. After seeing and hearing that the Jumbo Crab Cakes were on the small side, i opted for the Scallops as my entree. I first received my "Dirty Dozen" of raw oysters (if you read previous reviews i always try raw oysters if a place serves them) and as it was described to me, each pair of oysters were different and had unique traits/flavor profiles. This was true and i enjoyed experiencing the variety of different oysters very much, however a few were plagued with shell bits which kept it from being a perfect dish. Next up was the chef's "Signature" gumbo which was the biggest letdown of the night. The crawfish and shrimp add a richness of their own flavor but besides that... It was bland. The andouille sausage was sliced into paper thin triangles, almost like it was stamped out of a deli cut. The entree saved the evening as the scallops were sweet, delicious, and had an array of ingredients paired with it to really complement the dish. My only complaint with it is as i was eating it, there was grit to it but im unsure if it was from the scallops or one of the dishes i ate previously. Dessert was good, a lemon cheesecake that was balanced well with a light dusting of salt. In short, i expected much better for the high prices i paid. The only true positives were the staff/service and the mixed drinks which keeps this from being a two star review.

My wife brought me here for my birthday dinner. This was our second time here, and it was still as fabulous as I remembered. We chose to sit outside this time, and it was an amazing atmosphere at night; not too hot or cold. The tables are spread far enough apart for an intimate setting. The service was its usual high standard; no surprises there. However, as always, it's about the food, delicious. We started with the Calamari. It was perfectly seasoned and actually crisp without being overcooked. I also started with the Tomato and Fried Goat Cheese Salad. Wife didn't feel courageous, but I liked it. The cheese did have a bit of a gamey taste, but the roasted red pepper vinaigrette balanced it nicely. For the mains, my wife had the Crab Cakes, and they didn't disappoint. They were a decent size with plenty of juicy crab. The cakes were firm and not mushy. She paired it with the Crispy Fries. I loooove fries, you've got to try these. First off, they came out streaming. True fry lovers will get that. Secondly, they didn't need salt or pepper. Whoever the chef was, knew what they were doing; crunchy exterior but soft interior. Two tumbs up. I had the Blackened Scallops. They were seared to a perfect medium. The seasoning wasn't overpowering, but just enough heat not to ruin tasting the actual Scallops. I paired my dish with the old fashioned Haricots Verts. For dessert, we tapped off the night with the Brownie a la mode. It was really good without causing toothaches. It is a fine dining restaurant, but feel free to relax in jeans and a Tshirt. Give this place a try. You won't regret it.

We had passed Waters many times when going to Bass Hall and kept forgetting to make reservations. One night, with no reservations anywhere we dropped in and they were able to seat us. So happy they could. Really really liked this restaurant. Love the casual yet upscale feel. Service was exceptional. And most important, the food was outstanding. We started with very creative and well-prepared drinks – the Voodoo Cowboy and the Sunset Sipper. As we began our drinks, an outstanding loaf of bread was delivered. For a starter we split a Tomato and Goat Cheese Salad. I like it a lot when you tell a server you are splitting something and then deliver it on two plates. In this case, not just on two plates, but actually as small versions of the original with all of the plate appeal that the larger one would have. The salad was gently dressed and the cheese and tomato plentiful. Well done. For a main I had the Ruby Red Crusted Trout with crab and green beans, and a side of Boursin Mashed Potatoes. Every single item was perfectly prepared and filled with flavor. My wife had the Waters Crab Cake and described it as one of the best she has ever tasted. This is from someone who has had crab cakes at many restaurants. Filled with flavor, on a great sauce bed, excellent. We had no room for dessert, but did have time because the service was perfectly paced for going to the musical at Bass Hall. We will return to Waters, probably many times.
