This is one of Fort Worth’s finest properties, and a great spot for either business or tourism. I can remember being here for the Bicentennial in 1976 as a big teenager, and I liked it then. Downtown Fort Worth sort of left the station, and by 1981 there was virtually no living business down there and this building was shuttered. It sat there boarded up until 1999 when the city and Mariott agreed to a joint funding venture to bring it forward and make it the show place it is today.||There rooms are Mariott quality, including the beds, towels, sheets, and all those pieces one gets with a lodging room. I’ve stayed there and put my family down there mainly for the nostalgia included with your room and the views. In 2000, when Mother Nature decided to urban renew downtown with a tornado, this building made it without any significant damage.||Their lobby is stunning, and there are remains there of the way we were with their beautiful staircase to nothing. They have an elevator garage for your car that has easy access, and on the top of it is a very serene pool and associated paraphernalia, and a fantastic place to escape the city for a lunch break, or just to relax. Hilton added the parking annex, and this pool in the 1950’s but it’s an amazingly quiet place with the hubbub of the city going on below.||The building is old, being constructed in the 1920’s, but nothing inside of it isn’t plenty new in perfect condition. On the stair-step rooftop are 4 suite rooms with doors that open out onto the roof to find a beautiful patio/balcony type affair for the guest to have drinks, a meal, or just to stand there and view the city, however it’s recommended that when we’re hosting tornados the guest stay in the building.||History indicates this is where the votes were counted and ratified in 1948 allowing LBJ his first senate seat. Some of their rooms have unusual shapes typical of a 1920’s building, but all of them are up to Mariott quality every time. Somewhere in the past, the building was host to a radio station, where the studios were in the little room on the topmost floor.||I’ve had lunch with the Corner Bakery a lot more often than renting the rooms, but it’s always a pleasure to visit this place. They’re going to charge you for parking, and I don’t think there’s any space for self-park, but there are plenty of paid self-parking lots very close. It has great accesses to the convention center, government buildings, and anywhere in downtown where there is always visible private security guards running around on bicycles, keeping the whole area a safe, walkable area at any hour on any day.||I don’t use them a lot because I own a home here, but I am forever a pitchman for the place, and had lunch with them countless work days. It sat there boarded up, waiting for an arsonist to set it on fire from 1981-1999, and that never happened. Give these people a try, because you’ll like the quality and service in a elegant setting remaining from a...
Read moreWe rented 4 rooms for 4 nights and a conference room Wednesday night and all day Sunday. I am the event coordinator and I was in charge of pretty much everything from booking the rooms, working with our contact, planning the events, etc. It was one of the worst experiences I've ever had working with another business. First, half the time it was very hard/took a lot of time to get a response from my contact at the hotel, Renee. Upon check in, the person behind the counter did not know what he was doing. It was clear that he was trying very hard, but he had not been trained very well. We were sent to one room which was under construction as a room. I had requested 4 rooms with two beds, we were put in rooms with king size beds. I asked if we could have extra cots at least, we were told no. The valet that helped us to our room was the most pleasant part of the experience. He was very kind and helpful. On Friday night, we had a horrible experience with the bartending. She was extremely rude to us. I had spoke with our contact that we would be in the bar on Friday night with a group of about 15 women. I asked the bartending for some glasses salted with lime and ice. We also purchased other beverages from the mart and alcoholic ones as well. She kept saying 'If I give you these, I won't have any for my guests." Over and over again. I finally explained to her that we were guests as well, that we were staying in the rooms, and renting the conference room. She was then even more rude to me but finally went to the back to get glasses. She made it seem like she did not want to do anything to help us. I have bartended in the past. I know that she easily could have done this and found a solution. It was clear she was just being lazy and didn't want us taking up her area to make money although we were going to tip her as well. On Saturday when we had the conference room for the whole day, we arrived and we had to contact the front desk to get the complimentary coffee put in our room. They said they were not going to do it because they were too busy with check out because there was a big group checking out. This sounds like very poor management and planning. Then you need more staff. Different people do check out than that fill our room with coffee. On Thursday when we were renting the room, we asked if there was somewhere we could store equipment. They were again rude, curt, and...
Read moreI regret not doing further research before booking my stay at this hotel. This is a well known, respected chain and I have stayed at a Courtyard Marriott before with no issue.
Here, hotel staff were friendly (especially Jean) and did their very best to accommodate me in the beginning when problems began.
However the "room" issues were too big to overlook and not be reviewed for future guests. I reserved a room with a patio. There were several problems with this room. The 2 biggest: the door to the patio would not stay shut and the patio window was completely SHATTERED from floor to ceiling. Phone on the nightstand was dirty with makeup, glass ring marks on the night stand that were sticky. The entire room was dirty, dusty, forgotten? When I called front desk to complain, I was told that housekeeping was "on lunch" and I would have to wait 15-20 minutes before he could help me. I opted to go back to the front desk and speak with Jean, show pictures of the shattered glass to explain how serious the situation was. Fortunately, she was able to relocate me into another room. The broken window presented a safety and security risk.
I was relocated to a 2nd, smaller room and it too had signs of poor housekeeping and a shower that leaked leaving a pool of water on the floor after each use. I did not complain any further - I gave up and accepted the situation. A guest should not have to spend their birthday weekend fighting to be placed into a clean room. The Corner Bakery inside the hotel was nice and the lobby bar/bar staff was pleasant.
To date, I have received 3 very generic, apology replies to my review/complaints. I included photos with my review to their Operations Supervisor - no reply. If asking for a room with no dirt, leaks or broken glass is a not normal, than I guess my expectations are too high for Courtyard by Marriott/Blackstone. Thankfully, there are many hospitality options in the downtown Fort Worth area.
I don't want another generic "we're sorry for your experience" response to this review. While there are happy guests and happy reviews, I just want people to be informed and also see the pattern of the countless reviews that include poor housekeeping and hope that this company does better for it's...
