During a recent visit to downtown Fort Worth, my co-workers and I had the opportunity to dine at Jake's, a restaurant that had piqued our interest. Upon entering the establishment around 11:30 am, we observed a moderately occupied space, with a handful of patrons at the bar and several groups in the dining area.
We were seated at the bar, and after waiting for approximately 15 minutes, our server, Savannah M, arrived to take our drink orders. Unfortunately, her demeanor was less than welcoming, as she curtly asked, "What do you want for drinks?!" We proceeded to order two waters, one Dr. Pepper, one sweet tea, and fried mushrooms with three servings of ranch dressing.
Following an additional 10-minute wait, our server returned with three waters and a Dr. Pepper but failed to deliver the sweet tea. We placed our orders for The Works Burger, chicken fried steak, and another burger accompanied by a side salad. When the fried mushrooms arrived, we requested the missing sweet tea and an extra serving of ranch dressing.
Approximately 20 minutes later, our meals were brought to the table by Savannah and another staff member. Regrettably, there was some confusion regarding the chicken fried steak, which turned out to be chicken fried chicken. Our server, Savannah, was unyielding in her insistence that the dish was indeed a steak. Furthermore, the burgers we received were not cooked to our desired medium-well doneness.
After requesting the sweet tea once more, Savannah informed us that she was extremely busy and would need a few more minutes. To our dismay, she promptly greeted a nearby group of five with a warm welcome and enthusiastic service, a stark contrast to our own experience.
Eventually, the sweet tea was delivered, and our coworker reiterated that the chicken fried steak had been mistakenly replaced with chicken fried chicken. Despite her initial reluctance, Savannah ultimately removed the incorrect dish from our bill, though our coworker had already decided to dispose of the meal.
In conclusion, our experience at Jake's left much to be desired in terms of service, particularly from our server, Savannah M. While the restaurant's atmosphere was enjoyable, the inconsistencies in service and food preparation regrettably detracted from our overall...
Read moreI had a horrible experience of what felt like gender discrimination here tonight in front of my whole family. I flew in town for a family wedding and was staying at the Sinclair across the street, and a group of 6 of us went to Jakes to have a drink after dinner. I jokingly commented on how nice it was that the large, pistol-armed security guard was helping us find a table. After we were seated, the waitress came up and told our whole party that she would serve them drinks but not me because someone told her I appeared inebriated and needed to be cut off. I had not been drinking before that nor had I even ordered a drink- we had only been there 5 minutes and I had just gotten to town a few hours prior- so I asked her what the specific complaint was and asked to speak to the manager. All the manager and waitress would tell me was that they were told I was being "exuberant" so they wouldn't serve me a drink "for my safety". I was so shocked and embarrassed. I am a 45 year old litigator/attorney of 20 years (including of liquor liability cases) and can assure you I was nothing but happy to be around my family and we were not at all loud or disruptive. By significant contrast, there were men throughout the bar and restaurant area who were drinking and being boisterous and loud. I asked why they singled me out, and they again repeated that I was just "exuberant." Apparently, at Jake's, only men can have personality, not women. I can't emphasize enough that we were a really low-key party with 4 of 6 of us in their 60s/70s, and my cousin and I in our 40s, and yet I was told they would not sell me a beer because I was too "exuberant." Women beware at this restaurant: don't laugh or make jokes or they will decide you must be controlled and kicked out. My whole group was so appalled. We left and went to a different establishment and were seved our drinks without comment or concern. There are so many better bars in the area, ladies. Don't bless Jake's with...
Read moreCame here for lunch and sat at the bar during.
After a long night of drinking, I needed a hair of the dog that bit me to help lift my spirits a bit. I ordered a Dos Equis; the bartender asked if I wanted it in a tall glass or short glass. I laughed and asked for clarification that she said short glass. She said yes. Normally when that question is asked by a bartender, they're referring to a pint glass or a rocks glass. So I said tall. I commented to my friend that I've never heard of a place offering beer in a rocks glass. The bartender never clarified. I realized when my beer was served she had a different definition of a tall glass. Maybe this is my mistake; I don't order beer often so maybe this is a normal thing. But I do feel that if a customer shows obvious confusion at a question, some clarification should be given. It was only $6.50 for the beer, so not bad price wise at all. But I really didn't want that much beer. Oh well.
The breakfast burger was good. I receive it several minutes after my friend got her order, so that was a bit annoying. The grease from the ham and bacon was a bit much. I could tell they went straight from the grill to the burger. It would've been ideal if the kitchen set the items on a paper towel to remove some of the grease first. The bottom bun got pretty soggy. It was still appetizing, but that small change would've enhanced the meal. The fries were also good. Hand cut is always a bonus, but they could've used some salt.
The bartender was alright; attentive for the most part. Not the friendliest. By no means was she rude, but she didn’t give off very welcoming vibes either.
A decent visit. Not terrible, not the greatest. Lots of options to choose from. Good for a quick...
