Was in Ft. Worth for an early meeting this morning, which was delayed... so decided to go for breakfast. I found Yolk searching Google maps, and it looks nice enough, with good reviews, and I loved the name.
Upon entering the restaurant, I received a very warm welcome, and was seated immediately. I chose the counter, since I was dining alone. I love the decor btw. The yellow and blue are nice, and the brick walls and columns, with the wooden accents are a very nice touch.
The atmosphere was comfortable, but not too homey, which I like. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and my food came quickly, as ordered. The food was cooked properly, and tasted good. I only had a few minor issues, which is the only reason I didn't give 5 stars.
1st issue was that when I sat down, I immediately knocked my knees into the counter when trying to scoot closer, then hit my knees under the counter when I tried to cross my legs so I could turn to the side and be closer to the counter. I'm only 5'5" and pretty petite, so I can't imagine how uncomfortable it is for those blessed with long legs.
2nd issue was that the tiny cup of jelly they gave me was not even enough to cover 1 slice of the gigantic toast. Don't mind the size of the toast, but they should just give more jelly. I'm sure I could have requested more jelly, but better planning there is necessary. Otherwise the jelly was delicious, and tasted homemade... same for the strawberry orange juice, which is made in house. It was delicious.
3rd issue was the "seasoned" potatoes, which had no seasoning. They were cooked well, but totally bland. A little salt goes a long way, I'm just saying... After reading "seasoned" potatoes on the menu, I was expecting a flavorful bite of garlic and herbs, some salt, a little paprika maybe, or something like that, but was totally disappointed when I took my first bite. Even after sprinkling with table salt, and dipping in ketchup, they were still as bland as ever.
All in all, I had a good experience, and for the most part enjoyed my meal (other than the potatoes, which are usually my favorite part). I would eat here again, and I do recommend...
Read moreOn my vist I got the, Hey Rick ! Omelette, Countryside skillet, avocado toast, very berry French toast and the strawberry cheesecake pancakes. Honestly I had high hopes for this restaurant because of the reviews and the rating on trip advisor. Honestly it’s just below mediocre food. Everything just felt super generic. The pancakes were super disappointing, nothing special it just tasted like super generic pancake batter. The omelette wasn’t the best it just tasted like egg (yeah I know it’s an omelette)and nothing else. The filling for the omelette was non existent I couldn’t taste anything. The countryside skillet was okayish but the gravy tasted like it came from an MRE which tasted awful. The avocado toast was good but the salmon was warm which made it super mushy and off putting. I think the thing that was pretty good was the French toast but it wasn’t anything to gloat about.
Our server didn’t pay too much attention to us. When he first came by and dropped our coffee off at the table he put the utensils on the table which to some it’s no big deal but to me I feel that it’s gross because the table wasn’t 100% clean. The water that they have at the table has some black spots on the neck. It looked like mold…. I told my server about and he gave me a deer in the headlights look as to what do you want me to do about it ? Instead of him taking some initiative and saying sorry let me replace this. Nope I had to tell him to replace it, the waiter didn’t have attention to detail because I asked the water to have no ice and they both came with ice. The server didn’t really check in on us at all but with other tables he was a chatter box.
I would say don’t come here if you want overpriced less than mediocre food. Don’t listen to all those other reviews because more than likely they are tourists that need somewhere to go eat with the large amount of hotels...
Read moreI don't know if they're trying to save money on air conditioning or what, but if so, maybe they shouldn't when the temperature is on it's way to 110 degrees. We're all sitting here sweating wishing they'd at least brought in some fans or had thought to install a window covering on the west-facing windows (which we were fortunate enough to be seated right next to). It's not a great situation for people who are sensitive to heat (such as those with blood pressure issues - if this describes you, and you don't want to pass out, maybe wait until fall to come here).
Also the waitlist was a bit of a problem. We knew there would be a significant wait, so we used the online waitlist. First, we could only make a reservation for 6 people even though they can accommodate larger groups. When we showed up with 7 (one is a baby), we were told we should have made a reservation for 7 so we kind of seemed like jerks until my husband explained. I guess they had no idea it wasn't possible. However, they accommodated us so it ended up okay.
The second issue with the waitlist system is that it doesn't notify you when your table is ready (so you know when to report to the host's stand), but it may, after the hour-and-a-half wait, kick you off the list. Fortunately, we were able to call them and straighten that...
