I set out on my weekly weekend long ride and was looking for a nice coffee shop midway through my ride. With being from Chicago, it was my first time in Galena and was not aware of any coffee shops locally. I happened to ride by Kaladi's and decided to stop in. Firstly, the atmosphere inside was great and the employees happily welcomed me when I entered. I proceeded to order a coffee along with a water and a banana muffin. After ordering, I noticed that it was cash only and I only had my card (Totally my fault for not reading the sign before placing my order). Conveniently they have an ATM at their location for guests that do not have cash. Unfortunately, I was unable to take out any money as there was a problem with my credit card. I went back to the register and said I am unable to take out cash and would not be able to pay for the coffee, water, and muffin. Graciously one of the employees told me to take the coffee along with the other items as they were already prepared. I was shocked and couldn't believe their accommodation along with customer service. I have never experienced anything like this before and goes to show how much Kaladi's cares about their customers. I can not recommend this place enough, and I will definitely be coming back whenever I am...
Read moreFirst the positive. The coffee was very good. Staff is friendly and the business is clean, comfortable and welcoming. That said, this is the first time I’ve ever been charged a .60¢ surcharge for half and half in my coffee. I ordered a Medium Americano and asked for room which equaled an inch from the rim. I think I added about two tsp of half and half to my beverage along with sugar. Is this a new trend in coffee houses? I work for an airline and travel the world. Does this make me a coffee expert? No, but I’ve been to many places world wide and lived in NY city for many years. I’ve never run into this, not even in NY. My drink, including .60¢ half and half surcharge along with tax totaled $5.74. I looked at the tip jar and asked myself, if I tipped a $1 ( which I normally do) this drink would be .26¢ shy of $7.00. I love to support local business, especially local mom and pop shops such as this. Unfortunately, I can’t afford to frequent this place and that...
Read moreOverall very disappointing customer service. When I walked in, the young man at the register didn't greet me or asked to take my order. In fact, he just stared at me and waited. I finally asked him if he was ready for my order to which you responded. Yes. So after more than a minute of awkward silence, I was able to order my latte. When I received it, I was again disappointed to realize that my large was maybe half full. There was more foam on top than there was liquid.
Additionally, it was exceptionally overpriced. Even for a small coffee shop. I paid $3 less at a different coffee shop downtown just yesterday for the same drink. In hindsight, I should have just walked out, but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Anyone else go in there. In a place like Galina with large amounts of tourists and other visitors, there's too much competition to support a business that can't take care of...
