So I saw Cornell on Facebook doing a little daddyâs preparation of the gumbo so I drove all the way here from Austin Texas parking wasnât too bad. It was a nice fall day and I walked in. I sat at the bar I thought it looked pretty cool, but I mustâve sat at the bar for like 15 minutes and so I decided maybe Iâll just walk back out and walk around and come back. Maybe then somebody will come to me and ask what Iâd like to eat, but it wasnât even busy which was very strange that I wasnât getting served so I walked around Galveston. I came back about 25 minutes later. and I sat down at the table you know just to get my energy right it was my first time coming here so I wanted to really have a good foot. You know probably took about another six or seven minutes. Somebody finally came up to me, and I think it only happened because they were literally standing in front of me again the place was pretty empty. There was probably about five people in there so anyway I ordered the gumbo mumbo which was really delicious but the service was not there. I didnât get asked if I wanted any water after my cup was empty nobody checked on me ever until I actually got up to pay I actually had to find somebody to tell them I wanted to cash out so I didnât leave anything because I felt like the service just wasnât there but the food was pretty good if I ever do come back I would probably just do order online and just grab it to go just to avoid the whole situation. I donât really eat restaurants anyway, as it is, but I thought since I had driven so far, Iâd give it a chance, but thatâs my honest opinion about it. I did ask for to go Container. One of the employees was pretty much arguing with me that the small container he gave me for the large bowl was gonna fit and that he had been working there for many years and he knows what heâs talking about. Unfortunately, when I pour the soup into the bowl, it did not fit and in fact I needed a large one. I donât know if they were trying to save money or something. I donât know but anyway he ended up giving me a large one and I ended up pouring my soup in and I cashed out it was about $30 for some garlic bread and a mumble gumbo soup which was about $22 and I did not leave a tip because again honestly nobody really waited on me so why would I leave anything at all? If I did come back here again I would just order it to go the staff here. I donât know what to say about them. I donât wanna be rude or anything, but just not very I donât know. just not there. I heard a couple of elderly folks ask a guy about the crab and how they had it and was it seasonal. He didnât know anything about it so just gave them a generic answer like oh we just get it and we freeze it so I didnât really know too much about the food he was serving which I thought was strange because itâs seafood people ask those kind of questions. I feel that people only get upset when people ask those kind of questions because they donât know the answers to them so they feel like theyâre being bothered or they feel like the customers obnoxious when theyâre just interested in the food theyâre consuming plus theyâre elderly I guess anyway thatâs my honest review about little daddyâs the food is great. The atmosphere is OK. The service for me personally was not there. Maybe it was just an off day I donât know. Thank you so much and...
Read moreThis was hands down the worst meal I have ever had!! I sacrificed to treat my daughter and I am sorry I didnât buy the food and cook it myself! The place is very cute and tucked away but is poorly ran. We were served cups of shrimp gumbo that tasted and looked like burned boxed roux.. My cup had one piece of shrimp that tasted raw, the roux was lukewarm and the rice was completely crunchy and disgusting! I couldnât believe they served that to us! But things happen so we still gave them another chance and ordered two poboys, one shrimp and one half oyster and half shrimp with fries, a sprite and a sweet tea with sliced lemons. I requested the seafood fried hard. We received both poboys with seafood barely fried.. the batter was falling off it was so soft. My fries were burned on the outside and raw on the inside!! My tea tasted like the water came straight out of a backyard hose! We had to flag down anyone for service and there were only two other couples eating at the time and fully staffed. Oh I completely forgot about the only good part of the meal.. I ordered 1/2 dozen charbroiled oysters and they were delicious! however they didnât even give us saucers to eat them on !! I am not usually this harsh when giving reviews and I am a kind hearted and understanding person but I must give an honest review especially as I drove approximately 2 hours specifically for that meal that we researched and settled upon and for the price and trouble.. the food and service was terrible and a total disappointmentâšď¸ My prayer is that the owner will see this review and be able to fix these issues before they run his restaurant out of business. Every complaint that I have is an easy fix..Maybe they were just having an off day because previous...
Read moreThe food is great, so why the 3 stars? Because they charge you to place an order! We walked in to place an order to go and we get the bill and there's a $2.50 charge for "to go order"! So I have to pay to buy food? And then, the dreaded "tip" line on a to-go order. So $12.50 extra (tip and fee) to walk in, place my order and walk out. Of course, the owner will say, "you don't have to tip" but everyone knows if there is a tip line, you're expected to tip. I'm actually a great tipper, I've worked in the service industry where I got tips, but tipping culture is out of control in America. Now, just simply ringing up an order deserves a tip! Trust me, people have "tip fatigue" and are getting sick of constantly have to pay for the most mundane things. If you're dining in and you have a server, you should ABSOLUTELY tip, and tip well, but to-go orders are completely different. Also, charging people $2.50 to place a to-go order is ridiculous.
Edit. The $2.50 charge for packing the order seems sketchy, McDonald's doesn't add $2.50 for putting your food in the bag. Also, I can guarantee you I'm not the only person who feels unwanted pressure with the tip on take outs. The whole reason I wrote this is because while waiting for our food to cook, we heard another couple outside talking about it and we joined into their conversation. People are starting to feel obligated to tip on everything now and its getting old. Seriously, you should take away the tip option on to-go orders. People feel pressure to give money when it isnt earned. They're afraid their food will get spit in or something. Don't believe me? Ask some...
