9/10 - will go again.
I recently enjoyed a birthday dinner here courtesy of my wife making us a reservation. I'd have loved to take more pictures but it sadly wasn't the place nor time for me to be doing so as my focus was elsewhere.
The picture of the chandelier is beautiful pipe work on the first floor bar. The restaurant has 3 total floors, with the first currently under renovation and the 2nd holding a small bar and some. The 3rd floor is where the magic happens.
Arriving at Eden, our reservation was received and we were told to wait for a quick moment before they sent us upstairs to be seated. Our dinner took us to the 3rd floor, where the ambience was just right. The music ranges from modern house to deep synths - beaty background music that is loud enough to enjoy but not enough to distract me from my beautiful date. The 3rd floor rooftop is an open air space with dim warm lights placed all around the street side wall. Definitely a cool spot to bring a group of friends to get an outdoor indoor experience.
Our server was very on point and attentive. We had a candle go out a few times that she kept coming to relight, eventually swapping it out for another. In other places I've been to, the server just ignores the candle until I leave, but I'm a sucker for romance and I gotta have my candles.
The menu is short and sweet, and clearly well curated. Honestly every single item on the menu was a contender and I had a hard time choosing. We ended up starting with cocktails that were impeccable, the martinis are well balanced and have a good kick. For an appetizer we decided to share the ahi tuna tartare which was seasoned to perfection and plated so beautifully, albeit a little heavy on the fresh chili slices draped over it (7 slices took over the flavor of the tartare just a bit too much).
Finishing this beautiful appetizer, we were extremely excited to receive our main courses, the Chicken Piccata and the Butterflied Branzino which both flavor wise pair really well with the Italian Pinot Grigio they have to offer. While the flavor was good, the presentation was terrible. There is a clear difference of chefs or perhaps just the plating design when looking at appetizers, main courses and desserts. The primary food menu consists of burgers, so I was already hesitant to order something that wasn't a burger, yet I didn't expect such careless presentation of meals that are in such a space. I was considering getting their Truffle Taglioni but after this was not too worried about missing out if this is what I would expect it to look like.
To round out the night, with it being a birthday dinner that was apparently already marked on the reservation, house sent us their bread pudding complete with a sparkling candle. For this dish, the plating was beautiful, with sauce carefully drizzled around a handful of tiny flower buds arranged around the bread pudding centerpiece, which was topped with an overturned ball of ice cream in a waffle cone. The flavor was great and the presentation doubled the positive impression.
We overall had a great night and were well looked after. I'm a picky eater and while I enjoy going out, I can't help but demand a full experience. For such a wonderful place to visit, the display of my main course was a great disappointment, and made me wonder if the chef was feeling okay that evening or if someone was filling in that night. I'll definitely return to try some more of the menu, upon which I hope my experience will call for an update of...
Read moreBelated review! Been there last summer with my wife, thinking about the delicious burger and friendly atmosphere of their previous location we used to go in N Verdugo. She was dressed fine and I was dressed just summer style (the night was very hot), classic shorts and T-shirt, no flip-flops, nothing weird, just a normal casual dress. I had read about the outside patio on rooftop and liked to seat there, so after checking in they gave us the choice to seat wherever we want. We're walking up to rooftop, almost there, and suddenly the security stops us. "I'm sorry sir, elegant casual dress code is requirement for that section." Excuse me? and that waitress didn't know about it to tell us? So we came back to the first floor, embarrassed, where there're lots of empty tables and only us! ordered my favorite burger and my wife's pizza, and salads, and another disappointment. Same menu items, but overpriced, but the food was in no way comparable with the previous location (the quality was obviously the victim of higher costs of the new place in Brand blvd). Then the awkward moments, I noticed groups of 2-3 girls, walking down the stairs, dressed very inappropriate, even for nightclub, ultra-short ripped shorts, flip-flops, ripped shirts and tattoos, like it was pool party up there!!! grabbed my phone and right to the restaurant's website. Couldn't find ANYTHING about the dress code, not even in google reviews. on my way out I asked the security if there's anywhere I could find out about it, and he's looking at me like dumb. "I don't know sir, I can call the manager!" This is clearly discrimination, I said to my wife, and that's where she stopped me and we left without any more argument or anyone apologizing for the hard time they gave us in a Saturday night. At home I looked into every page with computer (not tablet or phone) in their website, yelp, and google, and found absolutely nothing about the dress code. Today, I'm checking the website, and I see they've added the dress code in reservation page, asking to "dress in a suitable manner to fit bla bla". What a poor management, you set the rules and inform people...
Read moreThe employees are rude and careless. I came in for a few items and the whole time I was shopping or trying to shop the workers made sure to harass me by following me to every aisle. Stores are supposed to make you feel comfortable and relaxed. Not this one at least not in the early AM shift. They have lost prevention and all those cameras to keep an eye for potential thief ect. These workers leave their assigned place to go and harass shoppers who they stereo type to be potential shoplifters I'm guessing. Even when I paid the lady was so rude and single me out bcuz she thought I wasn't gonna pay for all my items. Also if u paying with ebt there is one lady who would act like the transaction can't go through so that u can pay for the same items 3 times but refused to give me my refund receipt and bcuz I capt insistent she started to call security and the store manager. She lied and he backed her up and basically called me a liar. Two days layer all the transactions were still charged and I know she keep it bcuz she did the same to an old pal of mine. Bottom line be careful and prepare to be followed and harassed by the AM workers if they think your a thief or shoplifter. EBT members don't fall as this cashier victim. She works in the self check out although today in the AM she was putting Xmas decorations or fixing stuff...
