We always have dinner at 5th and Wine while visiting family in Great Falls. Through the years I've always enjoyed the warm rustic atmosphere ..., the high ceilings ... the wood beams and the tables neatly set with sparkling clean wine glasses. We were , as usual, welcomed by a professional staff neatly attired in black. For wine drinkers there is a wine flight that is featured ... three 3 ounce pours of any wine on the list, even the top shelf barolo, for thirty dollars. One of my three choices was a lush Walla Wallla cab that made my mouth sing. A half priced appetizer is offered if selecting a flight. The dinner menu leans to Italian selections. I asked Linda, our server, how was the rollatini and she replied it was her favorite. I've made the dish many times at home and wanted to try their version. I ordered it along with a small Caesar salad. My wife ordered the halibut risotto. My Caesar arrived, a small bowl of cold iceberg lettuce, little to no dressing and tossed with shaky cheese and three small croutons. This was a poor excuse for a Caesar salad even if it was six dollars. The rollatini arrived, and the cheese drooped off my fork with my first bite. However, when I dug into the middle of the dish, it was cold, indicating to me that the dish came from a microwave and not a hot oven. My wife's risoto was cold, the halibut grilled perfectly, and it was all topped with a refrigerator cold tomato and parsley mix that resulted in most confusing entree. While our dinner at 5th and Wine did not live up to past experiences, we will continue our yearly family gathering here. It would not take much for 5th and Wine to have me write a rocking five star review...
Read more5th and Wine was an amazing place. I took my wife out for a lunch date there (I believe it was Feb 7th, ‘25). We started out with water and pineapple mimosas. 5th and Wine doesn’t have a full bar so we had to venture out into unknown mimosa territory. I switched to a berry mimosa. Their mimosas are strong so be careful! They have a fun menu and both my wife and I had the same thing; a Mediterranean style chicken melt sandwich on some type of flatbread. Excellent food! The portions were perfect. We had a black bean and pork soup that was just out of this world! It was so delicious; it had wonderful chili flavor to it. Since it was the early afternoon, there was street parking just outside the entrance. There were high tables and lower tables so you can choose the style of seating you like. While certainly not a western style of restaurant, several of the paintings/artwork had a early western/rugged Montana style which I really liked. Since this was an afternoon date, we were able to hold hands and talk about us, our dreams, our challenges, our hopes - you know, married date stuff. It was absolutely wonderful and we’ll be back for another date there. It’s wonderful for groups of friends too, not just dates. There’s also upstairs seating that wasn’t in use when we were there but would be really fun to sit at. Gather tour friends and/or special someone and go. You won’t be disappointed. I must apologize, I didn’t take pictures but will in future visits. Hope to...
Read moreVisited on a midweek evening. Food good but not great, I think overpriced. I had the eggplant entree, which was tasty but nothing memorable, served with piles of spaghetti marinara. Hubs tried to order the lasagne but they were out (?) and they were also out of the beef steak, so 3rd choice: halibut. The fish itself was overcooked/dry, but the sauce/accompaniments were fine. Appreciated that our server offered me a taste of the wine I picked, suspecting I might not like it and she was right, so I selected another. She herself was friendly and doing the best she could, but wait staff seemed a bit overwhelmed in general, and food came out very slowly (long waits). There was a large noisy (too much alcohol) party in the corner yelling and laughing so loud it was hard to hold a conversation. So, for fine-dining pricing, this place (ambience, food, service) was...
