Our first time eating here and we left with a very positive opinion! From the pleasant greeting and immediate seating for our 8:00pm reservation, (even though we a arrived at 7:45), to our wonderful waiter (David) to chatting with the General Manager (Travis Donovan), to an excellent dinner!
We started with the Warm Olives which were very good, subtly flavored with citrus peel and ample in portion size. The addition of some herbs would be welcomed but nonetheless we ate them all.
We both ordered the Little Gem Salad which was nothing short of perfect. A Caesar Salad unlike any other I’ve had. Beautiful butterhead lettuce, finely ground breadcrumbs and a subtle but lovely dressing. A light and refreshing salad. It’s hard to get excited about salads but we were about this one!
Being a pescatarian/vegetarian limits the entree and pasta choices. So we ordered one Tortelli which husband loved and I ordered a shrimp with pasta and chef was able to change the noodles from squid ink to a flat noodle. I thought the components sounded odd but interesting (fennel and an unusual spice of which I cannot recall) and I found the flavor profile very off-putting and odd, which my husband agreed with. The shrimp however were cooked perfectly and I enjoyed them all.
When the waiter inquired about our meals (husband’s clean plate and my bowl of pasta) husband raved about his and I said the shrimp were delicious. He then pressed on about the pasta and I said what I typed above. He offered another choice but I declined as I was satisfied with what I had eaten already.
I would not complain about a dish that was served as it was described nor ask for a replacement as I realize I made the choice. It just was an odd tasting combination of ingredients for pasta. BUT the GM, Mr. Donavan came to our table and brought up that our waiter told him of my opinion. He said he wouldn’t charge the $30.00 on our bill to which I replied it was unnecessary as I ordered it knowing what I was getting, I didn’t think it was the restaurants fault. However once the check came we saw he did not charge us, which was a great gesture of customer care! Especially since I didn’t ask or need him to do that.
To conclude our meal we ordered the soft serve vanilla ice cream with chocolate shavings (excellent!) and a tiramisu (lovely and very rich). The decaf Americano was piping hot but satisfying in the very chilly room!
One shining moment was the bottle of Brunello Montalcino 2019 which was properly priced at $170.00. We were happy to see a suitable wine to accompany our meal. Also a glass Giordano Gavi was lovely!
The restaurant is loud. For a Thursday night it was full and several big tables of gentleman and several with women (loud!) so it’s no surprise. Not a place for a romantic or intimate dinner. The decor is very cool and very not typical Italian lush and dark design choices but light and airy and contemporary design choices. A nice change of pace.
We plan to come back for a special multi course fish dinner coming up. Most impressive beyond the food is the care shown for a patrons dining experience!

Read moreWe really enjoyed our meal! For our cocktails, I had there lemonade and added vodka, the Aberol Spritz was good, dirty martini was strong lol and the espresso martini was the collective favorite. We started off with the crispy calamari, focaccia with whipped ricotta and honey dip, and the peach pizza. Honestly the peach pizza was amazing and the calamari was also very delicious. For dinner we got the Ravioli, Rotolo, and Tagliatelle. I think out of all the meals the Ravioli was by far the best, the corn flavors of the noodle where great. The Rotolo was also very good and super flavorful, and it was fun to eat because of the pinwheel appearance of the noodle. The Tagliatelle seemed to be very popular at there Charleston location however none of us liked it at all, just a little too tart for us. For dessert we shared the Tiramisu, it was good, however just a tad to sweet for my taste, compared to a more traditional version. The host was so nice, our table wasn’t ready just yet so she suggested we go to the bar and get drinks then she came and grabbed us. The bartenders where both very lovely and attentive. The biggest issue we ran into was our waiter. He was for sure informative when we asked questions about the menu. He would not let us order the drinks we wanted and kept taking away the drink menu. We all finished our first drink before apps. I asked for the drink menu again after the appetizer came and he said no, and then we tried to order a second round of drinks when he came back with water to go with the apps and he said no. So we go to the bar and got them and ate. Then we asked a different server and she brought us the drink menu, so we could order another drink while we chilled and waited for dinner. We went back to the bar, when we unsuccessfully tried to get another drink from him. We finished those and then he let us order drinks again, he proceeds to snatch the drink menu out of my hands. At this point the apps are packaged to go and on the counter near us, then we ask for two of our meals to be taken to go as well. Then we had dessert and after asked for our checks. I went over and grabbed the bag with just apps, then when he came back with the receipts I asked for the to go containers from dinner before we left. He says they are in the bag. I say no I checked they are not in the bag. Then he begins to list the exact menu item names of the appetizers we got and the dinner menu items. He continues gaslighting me about it being in the bag, then I’m like sir just look in the bag please. Surprised Pikachu face, it’s not in the bag. Then he walks away without saying anything and goes and gets it mumbles an apology and then he leaves. We definitely agreed we would go back after some time and try again because the food and drinks where good but his overall attitude was super...
Read moreFood was very bland and not italian. With 6 cooks in the kitchen on a Friday night, I would have thought they would put olive oil on the burrata. There was none, not even salt or pepper.
The burrata was served with a throw up of arugula on top of it which was completely unappetizing and useless. The dressing on the arugula was ok but than again, I ordered burrata not a burrata salad. The bread which the burrata was served on had a light coating of cheap balsamic on it.
The Mortadella pizza was not working….period. The crust was cripsy and the pizza was not very floppy, I’ll give them that. The shallot was undercooked and the prosciutto was bland and hard. The pizza had no olive oil on it as well. The pesto base was way too sweet!! Im not sure if they dumped sugar in that pesto but wow!!
Mafaldine Nero Pasta was bland and rubbery and for 30$ not worth it! The shrimp were over-cooked and rubbery. Don’t overcook shrimp or it will have a “C” shape. Cooking 101. The base was a very soupy and bland sauce. It’s almost like I was eating ramen! The dish had little to no salt and for a seafood dish, that is unacceptable. Maybe a teaspoon on olive oil on the dish.
The wine selection is very good at this restaurant and it is the only thing that saves the place from being a total disaster in my opinion. The Negroni at the beginning was alright, although for the price point, try to use better liquor (vermouth and compari). The Negroni was a bit too sweet. I had to ask for Hendricks but I think if you put anything else lower grade in it, it would have been awful.
Overall, this place is a tourist trap which is owned by the hotel. It looks nice but it is loud overcrowded and just super mediocre and bland.
Oh ya, PS, there espresso looks like it comes out of a generic machine by the bar. So you’re not getting high quality beans or a good roast. Anyways, if you’re from an affluent area with good food say NE or New York area for example, don’t go here. It will save yourself 130 big...
