Read moreWe recently took an overnight road trip to Greenville, and Falls Park on the Reedy along with Liberty Bridge were the catalyst of the visit. We were not disappointed. The park is simply beautiful! There are paths, green areas, water features, gardens, and the fantastic Reedy Falls.
A few things surprised me. First, I did not know the park was so close to the city. That's not a bad thing, but from the pictures I saw before visiting I assumed it was a park far from the hustle and bustle of city life. But its proximity to the city is not a bad thing. It's wonderful that one can walk a few yards from the busy streets and buildings into a place of peace, beauty, and solitude. It's very easy to forget that the city is so nearby.
A second surprise was the riverwalk area on the north end of the park that offered a nice selection of dining and lodging options. The area is beautifully designed, and I'm already thinking of a return trip to stay in a hotel on the riverwalk to enjoy that area fuller.
The third surprise was the history found in the park. You can discover ruins of an old grain mill on the river, a hundred-year-old spring house, and more. There are several plaques that explain the historical features found in the park.
Falls Park is definitely a destination worth exploring. The park itself is free and you could spend hours here just soaking...
Read moreWe just moved to Simpsonville in January and FINALLY made it to Falls Park. We parked at the West Washington Street deck. 1) It was free. 2) there were several events in town on a gorgeous Sunday downtown so street parking was scarce. 3) we wanted to walk through town because it's incredible! When we got to the park I actually told my husband "I cant believe we live someplace we're this is only 20 minutes away AND it's in the middle of downtown." Absolutely spectacular! It's clean, beautiful and the people watching is stunning. We got to witness so many different walks of life enjoying and taking advantage of what we have here. There were people setting up a structure to what looked like the future site of summer theater, leashed dogs everywhere behaving so well, ducks and geese interacting with very respectful people of all ages and NOT being fed as far as I saw and in compliance with posted signs. We even witnessed a beautiful baptism! We weren't the only ones taking in all the beauty like tourists either. EVERYONE was in awe and taking pictures. We walked all the way down passed Cancer Survivors Park which was also quite moving and beautiful. Im sure there's so much more we didn't even get to experience yet. With 2 adventurous toddlers were pretty slow moving and can't wait to go...
