The only thing that is stopping me from leaving this location a 5 star review is a series of unfortunate events that took place while staying at this property. Two employees, Marcia McElveen (Front Desk Manager) and Nikki Jones (Assistant General Manager), made an otherwise pleasant trip, an unnecessary nightmare. It started at check-in when Marcia McElveen not only refused to honor the rate that we booked through Marriott (we are titanium members btw), she tried to sabotage the very helpful front desk attendant, Thomas from helping to help us maintain a reasonable rate. She claimed it was due to policy, however, when Thomas showed her they were capable of maintaining our confirmed rate within their policies, she still continued to harass us. She even attacked one of our educators who's a retired disabled veteran, telling him that because he is not active military, he does not qualify for the government/military rate. This gentleman, sacrificed and fought for this country, with the scars to prove it, and here she was telling him, that wasn't good enough. We have never been so insulted nor mistreated at a Marriott property. The general manager, Derek Cooper, and front desk worker Thomas did everything in their power to correct the terrible way we were treated by this young lady. We thought the situation was resolved. However, when we went to check out, we find out that Nikki Jones, the assistant general manager, snuck into our reservation and changed the rate that was agreed upon at check in, in the situation that the general manager already handled. Thank goodness I checked my receipt when I checked out because that's how I found out the rate was changed. Nikki Jones, who I've never met, chose to be loyal to the very unprofessional Marcia McElveen, and illegally charged myself, and someone else in my party an excess of over $300 on top of the original rate for the room, for our stay, just out of spite. I once again had to alert the General Manager, and thankfully he made Marcia McElveen correct this terrible, illegal thing that Nikki Jones did. I have no idea what myself or my group did to these women to make them treat us the way they did, but I am grateful that there were exceptional professionals such as the general manager Derek and Thomas to uphold the Marriott standard of customer service. Our school travels a lot, and we always use Marriott, as they support the morals that our 501c3 stands for. We educate at-risk youth, and do our best to show them that good does exist in the world. These two women, were a terrible step backwards, and I am disappointed that we had to experience that degree of unprofessionalism from them. Again, what Nikki Jones did was disturbing and illegal, as you CANNOT charge someone a price different from what you agreed to charge. She also failed to inform us of the charges she was adding. Therefore, our credit cards would have been charged for something we did not agree to. Derek Cooper, had to make Marcia refund the excess charges once Marcia confirmed that Nikki did in fact go back into the computer after the issue was resolved, and changed it. The property was beautiful, and everyone else we encountered were welcoming and very helpful. It was just these two women who, sad to say, should not be representatives within the Marriott family. They made this situation personal, and I do not understand what we did to deserve...
Read moreI stayed here during an event with a group and was given parking vouchers to use for parking by my supervisor. When I first arrived I parked in the garage across the street. When I went in and talked to the front desk receptionist, I explained what group I was with and signed up for valet parking (which was a mistake on my part). The next day I presented the front desk with the parking vouchers that I was given to me for my group. The front receptionist looked at the vouchers and said they would be fine for the valet parking and to just keep them handy for when I leave. However, after departing the hotel, I noticed some unexpected charges on my card from the hotel. I called and spoke to the accounting person and was told that they would call me back when they understand my problem. I did not receive a call back for a few days and then noticed another charge added to my card. I immediately called and this time talked to the front desk, explaining my issue and confusion. I was told that I would receive a response soon. It was then explained to me that the parking vouchers I had were not for the valet parking, but for the garage near the hotel. I agree that I made a mistake by parking valet, but when I showed the front desk person my parking vouchers that I had for my stay, they should have noticed that they were not the parking vouchers used for valet parking and let me know instead of acting like my presented vouchers would work for valet. If I had known, I would have moved my car so I wouldn't continue to accumulate charges. I am sad about this and think that I was partly led astray by listening to the front desk person and her acting like my parking vouchers that I showed to her were not the ones used for valet parking. I don't even think this hotel uses parking vouchers like I had- they use one ticket to be placed in the car on the front dash and there is a detachable small part to turn in at the end of your stay. So my question is, how could they have looked at my tiny ticket parking vouchers and not have noticed that they did not look anything like the parking pass used at this hotel. Now I lose money because of this.
The only problem I had at the hotel during the stay was that the pillow cases on my bed had some light but noticeable spots that looked somewhat dirty.
On the other hand, I very much enjoyed staying at the hotel and especially enjoyed the architecture and the complementary breakfast and the staff were very kind to me while I had my stay. The innovative design of the hotel rooms were visually appealing.
Just make sure to ask specific questions about parking and parking vouchers and ask more than once and multiple staff members (front desk and valet parking staff) if the parking passes you have are the ones used at this hotel or not so that you will not be led astray. Ask them look at the vouchers very closely so that they can explain if they are the ones used at this...
Read moreI've been to Greenville a few times over the past couple years after my girlfriend and I discovered it. I love the small town feel of downtown, and the Springhill Suites puts you right in the middle of it all. Only two blocks from Main Street, you can walk to all the stores, restaurants and night spots, and the hotel offers clean, comfortable rooms at very reasonable rates.
Rooms are contemporary suites, with a sofa, desk, bar with mini fridge and coffee maker, two queens or one king bed in the bedroom with a small dresser, night stand, and wall-mounted smart TV with telescoping arm, and a bathroom with walk-in shower, toilet, and a modest size vanity. There's a closet near the window that's rather large, and includes a safe with a programmable key code.
Lighting in the rooms is good, the beds are very comfortable, and the shower has good water pressure, even on higher floors. The bathroom is situated right in the center of the bedroom, which doesn't provide much privacy. The bathroom door is a diffuse glass panel that blurs what you can see inside, but from the outside you can still make out the shape of someone sitting on the toilet. Not a problem for families, just don't have a bunch of guests over to your room.
The climate control in the rooms is very noisy, but the thermostat can be set to run the fan only when heating or cooling, so you can at least get breaks in the noise, but still it can be annoying. The fan and ducts are in the ceiling near the door, and the desk that divides the front area from the bedroom area contains diffuse glass back panels that you can close to provide a little insulation from the noise, but your best bet is to probably set the room temp a little beyond what you find comfortable, get it to that temperature, then turn it off when you go to sleep. If it gets too warm or cold in the night, get up and turn back on. This might be a problem if you're noise-sensitive, so be advised.
WiFi coverage and speed are good, and I had no problems connecting and accessing email and websites. The smart TV has apps for Netflix, Prime Video, Showtime and other streaming services, and regular TV stations, of course.
The hotel seems well-maintained and looks and smells nice throughout. Elevators are well-lit and the back wall nicely decorated with wood endcaps. Access to floors requires your room card. Outdoor pool is heated, but still very...
