WATCH YOUR STATEMENTS!!!! I donโt usually check behind restaurants but something told me to do it this time. So LSS, we were told that we needed to sit on the โopen seatingโ side. And to put it in perspective, it looks exactly like the restaurant side with waitresses and all, but they treat it like a bar, meaning you start a tab. I wanted to pay with tap but they needed a physical card, so I gave them my debit card to hold the tab open (WHICH I NEVER DO ANYWHERE), but the waitress told me that when I was ready to pay, I could still use my tap โapple payโ. So I go to check out, pay with my Apple Pay, and by the time Iโm home, I see 3 different charges; 2 on my Apple Pay credit card, and one on my debit card. So I call and speak to Duke (he was very nice) and really tried to help. I waited days to see what would happen on my account and Iโll beโฆit posted to both accounts. I call back and speak to Hannahโฆshe tells me it was refunded on my debit card, which they had no authorization to charge, by the way. Anyway this happened on the 15th and today is the 26thโฆcharges are still there. So now I have to sort this out with my bank. So inconvenient. I paid my check three times!!! Imagine how many people donโt check their transactionsโฆ BUYER BEWARE. I feel gypped.
UPDATE 6/29/25 - NOBODY has reached out to me since my review posted, and they have my numberโฆalso no response here, but I see replies on so many other reviews. Iโll never be backโฆand I actually stay at this Embassy every time Iโm in Greenville. Ruth Chrisโ service was IMPECCABLE, by the way.
UPDATE 7/2/25 - I went to the bank to dispute the transaction and they said they would have to issue me a new card, which as you could imagine is such a pain, so I called back (Hannah was the manager on duty) to make one last ditch effort to have them refund the additional transactions. She states she could not come to the phone because she was โtoo busyโ on a Tuesday (7/1/25) at 4:05pm. I left my name and number for a callback and nothingโฆhave not heard from Megan eitherโฆgo figure. So yeah, I paid my check multiple times and I have to eat the charge, or disrupt all of my recurrent payments by getting a new card.
UPDATE 7/8/25 - I reached out to Megan directly after Hannah never returned my call (a little over 24hours later). Over the holiday weekend, Megan was able to coordinate with the accounting department to figure out what happened (something to do with a power outageโฆthereโs another reviewer who experienced multiple charges on the same day also, so this makes sense). Anywho, I was able to dispute one of the transactions successfully, and the other was voided, so thatโs makes us even. LSS, my debit card should have never been charged, but if it was due to forces outside of their control, I definitely understand. Having said this, Hannahโs customer service was absolutely deplorable. She could have called and explained that she was mistaken when she insisted that my transaction was refunded to my debit card, but she instead avoided me.
THANK YOU to Megan and Duke for assisting. I would still caution you to watch your statements in general, but Up on the Roof is a great vibe, and at a hotel I stay in oftenโฆyou canโt let one apple spoil the whole bunch.
Edited from 1 star to 3 for the assistance after the fact. Though I had to initiate the 3rd contact, Megan stuck to her word and followed up with me on Monday. Because I was out $150 for several days trying to get this resolved, and Hannah showed no empathy 3 stars is the best I can do. Had it not been for this, I...
ย ย ย Read moreYou would think a restaurant on the top of an Embassy hotel would be easy enough to find. But we parked in 3 garages before we finally made it to where we needed to be. After going through the lobby to the elevators past the check-in, the restaurant was on the 8th floor. The top floor is 100% the Up on the roof restaurant all accessible by 3 elevators. Arriving at noon, our party of 4 was pleased to have the pick of seating inside, next to one of the large windows. The view was incredible, even on this grey cloudy day. Most of the tables were high top with a mix of tall wooden/iron chairs or stools. Table tops were all setup with glasses for water and wine, a small plate and silverware in cloth napkins. Right away, I could tell they have class in their presentation. The room had pergola style wood ceilings, brick walls and various unique lighting along the walls and ceiling. The outdoor light flooded in along the side with the grand view of Greenville. The music flooded the room at a perfect volume. The playlist for the day seemed to be from the 80's. I did hear some Johnny Cash playing, which is right down my alley. Deirdre served us and was very friendly and accommodating to our needs. I appreciated the fact that she started us off with water, filling all our glasses before asking if there was anything else we would want to drink. And, she left a bottle with additional water so we could add water when needed. The ladies started with Mimosas and I had a Thomas Creek Oatmeal Stout on tap. I love me a good stout during the winter months. The menu had so many choices that sounded really good but I decided on the Shrimp and Grits. Others in our party had the Turkey Avocado Club and Breakfast Poutine. Within a short time, our food arrived well presented on hot plates. Having your food on hot plates makes all the difference, guaranteeing to keep your food warm as long as possible. Everyone at the table thought the food looked great, tasted great and we enjoyed every bite. The complete experience was very enjoyable! The restrooms were designed with class and very clean, a black and white theme. Having a small corner wood shelf at the urinal for a drink was a nice added touch. Looked like someone took their frustrations out on the hand towel machine, though. It was dis-functional, beat, battered and in need of repair. There were paper hand towels at the sink which were actually fine without any automated dispenser. Following our meal, we walked out on the patio to enjoy more great views and conversation. The fire pits kept us warm even with the cool crisp breeze. Based on the complete experience, I thought the cost was reasonable and will definitely come back again! ...
ย ย ย Read moreWe had reservations for 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2024, for a party of five adults, two babies and one toddler, and we arrived at 11:20. We did not see a server for at least 15 minutes. When we were assigned a server, she was wonderful. I believe her name was Tanee. She is very nice and pleasant and kept apologizing that everything was taking so long. We had to ask for a high chair three separate times before it was finally brought to our table. We ordered a carafe of pomegranate mimosas - the carafe contained only champagne, and the pomegranate juice came in what looked like a large shot glass. We were told that the carafe served 6-7 glasses, but there was no possible way that the two small cups of pom juice were going to stretch to even two pom mimosas. It took over 30 minutes to receive our two appetizers. The deviled eggs we ordered only contained two whole eggs and cost $9. The charcuterie board was very small for a charge of $29. By the time we were able to order our food, it took over an hour for it to arrive. Our server kept apologizing that it was taking so long. A table of four adults who were seated quite some time after our table received their meals before we did. Two of us had eaten there twice before and said the service had been terrible, but they were hoping it would be different this time. Three of us ordered the smash burger which was good, but the fries tasted and looked like they had been refried a dozen times. One of us ordered the Grandma's breakfast: the bacon was burned, and the eggs tasted strange like they might be powdered eggs. The other ordered the Cobb salad which was decent. The total of my bill for just one person was $56 for tea, 2 deviled eggs, 1/3 of the charcuterie board and a smash burger/fries. I'd also like to mention that the tiles on the patio do not fit snugly together and they move when you step on them. I had on heels and was very concerned that I was going to fall. Needless to say, we will not ever eat at Up on...
