Wellll….. I preface by saying I was in the food service industry for years. The ice cream is OK. The building is cool. But being pointedly informed they were closed (twice) 15 minutes after closing, when we were almost finished, when 4 employees were all doing side work, was kind of a bummer. We were not loitering, we were just trying to finish our ice cream. May I suggest to the owner that while your employees are still working on side work, it would be reasonable to let a customer finish their ice cream. Or maybe change to window service only if it’s too much trouble.
I will, reiterate, for the owner, the last sentence of my first paragraph: We were not loitering, we were just trying to finish our ice cream.
We were not “hanging out“. We were trying to finish the product that we had purchased.
Yes, I understand It’s a large space, but your staff still had much to do behind the counter. We had four or five bites of ice cream to finish.
So here are some suggestions:
-Closing time is not only a hard stop on any machines running. It also means you want all customers out of the building immediately. So 30 minutes before closing time rope off the end of your counter, to divert people back out the door and prevent them from sitting in the space.
-post an employee at the door and take orders as you would at a drive-through window. Don’t allow people to come in, just bring the product to them to the door.
-realize that when restaurants post their kitchen closes at 10, that typically means no more food out of the kitchen after 10. That doesn’t mean if you are still sitting there eating your meal at 10:15 that you need to pack it up and leave. Most establishments would allow you 20 to 30 minutes to...
Read moreMy husband & I went to spill the beans after a very nice dinner at Larkin’s. When we entered, not a one of the teenagers working there seemed to want to take our order. We decided on hot chocolate which totaled &9.01.... we did not have any loose change, and I said so in front of the clerk. I handed him a $10 thinking he would give me a $1 back in change... waiving the penny... he did not! He gave us back .99 in charge and left the counter immediately. I then remarked that he missed out in his $1 tip because of his rude and non caring attitude. We next moved to receive our prepared order & I asked the clerk why he did not put whipped cream on the hot chocolate because after all they were almost $5 each... he acted as if I had interrupted his evening and begrudgingly put the cream in top. He also, then left the counter. Not a one of these clerks acted as if they cared about their work and no one said thank you. My husband & I decided that it was probably their upbringing. I do love their great hot chocolate and also ice cream.. but I won’t be giving this establishment any future business... and will also share this experience with my friends and co workers. If you do go to Spill The Beans perhaps you will find a different crew working and just maybe they will act like they care for...
Read moreI used to love this sweet spot but I recently revisited, expecting a nostalgic and tasty treat. Unfortunately that was not the case. The door and Google maps stated that they closed at 11pm, and we entered before about 9:55. The servers immediately announced “if you’re ordering do it quick cause we’re closing in 2 minutes.” I ordered my ice cream in a mild panic but made sure to start with that I wanted vanilla ice cream with various mix-ins (raspberry, pistachio, dark chocolate chips). I received my ice cream right before they began to kick everyone out of the shop and turn away any prospective customers. Upon taking a bite I realized they had served me chocolate ice cream (which I do not like). I decided to go back and apologetically point out their error. The server proceeded to tell me that I had ordered chocolate and they couldn’t do anything about it. I was incredibly disappointed in the lack of service and attention to detail the workers at this shop display. Regretfully will not...
