The business owner, Tony, was unprofessional and hostile with us over a delivery issue. In this transaction, Tony had taken and deposited the full amount ($4,240) of our money for a sofa and chair and promised 8-12 weeks to deliver. After 25 weeks we asked for some reasonable compensation which we resolved at 7.3% ($310) rebate, due to the upfront payment being deposited in full 25 weeks ago. Our rationale, we should have only paid a deposit (i.e. 20%), or the check should not have been cashed up front if it was going to take this long, businesses should not use customers for free 0% interest loans of thousands of dollars. At this time we agreed to the 7.3% compensation, Tony indicated that in the past he wouldn't have resolved this issue the same way (indicating he had anger or conflict resolution problems) but was getting better at resolving issues. You can actually see another 1 star review where Tony tells his customer "were you looking in the mirror when your wrote this".
Two weeks later he told us to come pick up the sofa and chair. We took time off work and got a truck and help to pick up the items. Tony brought us to a back alley behind his store (Vintage Now Modern) and instead of letting us pick up our sofa and chair, decided to implode and started using profanity and name calling (you're an "explicative" etc.), shaking with emotion and anger. He looked delighted to tell us off and to cancel the transaction knowing he wasted more of our time and stuck it to us. We remained quiet, a bit in shock with this bizarre behavior. Only mentioning after the profanity that we would try to warn others via a review and better business bureau. He did give us a full refund, as he continued with some more name calling again as he handed us the check before returning back inside his store.
Exact dates for reference are initial sales order and check cut on 12/5/2020, 7.3% refund cut on 5/17/2021 and Tony canceling our transaction in a hostile encounter on 5/28/2021.
Update 5/30/2021: I spoke with Tony directly on the first encounter for the 7.3% comp, not a female employee. I never raised my voice or used profanity. Though Tony sure did.
I also had no intention of leaving a bad review until Tony did all of the completely inappropriate actions which he's admitted publicly now. My goal now is to attempt to protect others from this bad actor.
We also found out just how bad Tony was gouging us on price. We are now going to get the same thing from a more established USA made furniture brand for 25% less at another local store on Augusta road that has business ethics.
We lost 6 months and apprently gave Tony a free loan for $4,240.
Please avoid this guy...

I last edited this for formatting and clarity - and subtracted a star because the owner’s behavior is shockingly out of pocket:
Tony is giving me bipolar vibes because he has posted some seriously embarrassing stuff over the past 24 hours. It feels borderline manic. He’s edited, and re-edited his responses so many times I’m getting whiplash. He’s even gone back to his old responses to bad reviews and edited all of the psychotic stuff out! Somebody has already commented that he changed his response TWO YEARS LATER. He went on a tirade about strollers recently and admitted to requiring anger management (to other customers) - those are now GONE! He’s edited his response to me at least twice - once calling me a liar, the second calling me a baby and insulting my manhood, and the third was all happy with a whacky emoji (current as of 11/17). I encourage google to look into this - feel free to fact check me. Unfortunately we don’t get to see a timeline of edited reviews/responses. Thankfully, I’ve taken screenshots and posted them on Reddit, it’s been a trip and one of the most entertaining things on our trip to Greenville - an otherwise warm and welcoming town.
My original review follows unedited (IT WAS 2 STARS):
My wife and I had interest in some of their furniture, and the lady that was helping us was sweet and caring, but she had to ask the owner some questions that she couldn’t answer. We were standing right there and the dude was super curt with her, didn’t answer any of our questions, and didn’t make any attempt to interact with us - I guess he had better things to do. Probably for the best, cause he seemed to have a chip on his shoulder and we definitely wouldn’t have gotten along.
I can’t, in good conscience, support a place like this and their furniture is, literally, dime a dozen type stuff for the “antique” market.
They have some cool knick knacks, though, if $4000 sofas, $200 binoculars, and $20 rotted-out corn cob pipes are your thing.
Edited to say (15min later) I just read through some of the reviews and YIKES the owner is a piece of work. Looks like we dodged a...
Read moreFirst of all, this is my ABSOLUTE favorite place to visit for so many reasons! It's not just a place to shop, it's a place where you always feel welcomed and can always find unique and special gifts for anyone in your life. It's also THE place to go in Greenville if you want to find a balanced and perfect blend of vintage and modern ideas to transform any room in your home. The owners put a great deal of thought into every piece of furniture, art, or accessory they offer their clients. And it reflects in the comments I hear from consumers when I'm shopping there. Being a realtor, it's always important to me to find warm ways to express my sincere gratitude to my clients for their trust in me. I want to give them something that will truly help turn that house they just bought, into a warm and welcoming home. The best way I know how to do that is by buying them an "experience" at Vintage Now Modern. Their chalk painting classes are so much fun and show you how to transform "throw away" furniture into beautiful statement-pieces of art. They always have a fresh inventory of hard to find antiques, various styles of custom furniture and bedding as well as unique lighting, art and many accessories for the home. Just walking into their shop is a warm and welcoming experience and the owners, along with everyone working there, make sure of that. LOVE...
