Halls Chophouse Greenville — Restaurant in Greenville

I’m really unsure what the hype is about for this place. I was really excited to get a steak from this restaurant since I heard sooo many good things. We arrived at the restaurant about 10-15 before our reservation so I was totally fine with waiting, but it was a very odd interaction because they made it sound like serving early was no problem and said someone will be right with you in a few minutes so you can wait at the bar or in the lounge. I saw a few open tables on the walk over from the hotel so I figured maybe they weren’t too busy in the actual dining area. The bar was full so we waited in the lounge area, but this area also serves you meals as well so we had like 4 people come up to us asking if we wanted to order drinks and food. We explained we were just waiting for our reservation. Most of these people were nice, but 2 seemed annoyed and one even took the menu from our table without saying anything and handed it to someone else after we said we weren’t ordering. My boyfriend was not impressed and we even discussed leaving at that time and going to a neighboring steakhouse (even checked and they had an open reservation), but ultimately decided to stay. We finally got seated (same seat I saw in the window that was empty on the walk over) and Christian J. was our sever. The only reason I’m giving 2 stars is because he was extremely friendly and was very helpful. His service was a 5/5.

We ordered our steaks medium. 4 people came out with our food and we were asked to cut the steak down the middle in front of them to make sure it’s cooked correctly. Both my boyfriend and I cut and looked at each other like ehhh?? There was NO pink showing at all. I have never had a medium steak that is brown inside. I have attached a picture, but it doesn’t even do it justice because the picture is showing some pink and there was NONE in person. We are not people who like to complain and also reading the past reviews if you do they will send someone out with a flashlight to check..? So we didn’t say anything and the people who watched us cut the steak didn’t say a word either. The steak tasted good and wasn’t tough, but wasn’t anything different than a regular steak you could get anywhere. The sides weren’t bad, but I’m unsure why a baked potato is $14, creamed corn is $19 and collard greens is also roughly around the same price. The creamed corn was yummy, but I could make this at home for a couple dollars. We ordered the tollhouse skillet and it wasn’t even really warm and was hard..also didn’t taste like the tollhouse brand of cookie I’ve had before.

Our waiter and the other servers who brought out the food and plated it for us were very nice and the only reason I’m giving more than 1 star. This meal cost us roughly $250 and we also gave a $50 tip on top of this amount and honestly I don’t believe this meal was worth more $100-125. You can literally go to longhorn or roadhouse and get a filet that tastes just as good and is cooked better...

We have been a regular patron of Halls Chophouse at both Charleston and Greenville locations. We have always loved it and told all our friends and family how much we have loved it in the past but for the first time we felt let down and left disappointed.

No I didn’t say we were celebrating any special occasion but have never had to in the past to make us feel like extra valued guests. Why should I have to lie to make us feel special? We were actually told that at the end of our meal “that we didn’t say it was a special occasion”. What are they thinking??

We always bragged to our friends how special Halls was and how special Halls always made us feel. This time was different.

Maybe they are hurting cause of the economy or falling on hard times. I’m not sure. But it’s definitely not the same as our last visits …after bragging and bragging and telling our friends how special Halls was and how they went above and beyond and made us always feel so very special each and every visit …this time was definitely different : after a dozen times there, we did not feel special nor felt we were spending our hard earned money on a special meal.

Here is a copy of our receipt and it was over $200.00 per person. All we asked was to feel like we mattered. We didn’t this time. We have been regulars to Halls many many times over the years, but next time we will consider another high-end steakhouse before considering Halls.

I’m so disappointed it let us down and embarrassed in front or friends after bragging how Halls was different. It wasn’t this time. This was just another run of the mill standard steakhouse.

I think Halls is perhaps hurting cause of the economy and I can no longer rationalize spending so much money for an average meal. We will go to Longhorns before considering Halls and feel better about spending hard money on steak.

Yes, the steak was good and the waiter was good but was it worth over $200 per person - ABSOLUTELY not. I can spend $30 on a steak at Longhorns and feel much better about my purchase.

We always use to have a manger come over and double check how our meal was and ensure our visit was first rate. That never happened this timed. We never saw a manger nor were we ever asked how they could make our visit special.

I told the waiter how disappointed we were when we paid our bill and at that point a manager did come over but it was too little too late at that point. And why should I have to call this out in front of our guests that we bought to Halls expecting a better experience.

This was a first and a truly disappointment at Halls Chophouse and we were left feeling let down and cheated and embarrassed.

Sorry Halls you just lost a long and very devoted fan. We will choose Ruth Chris or even Longhorns next time before shelling out so much money on Halls Chophouse.

Halls is just not worth the...

Hall’s chophouse steakhouse is the number one steakhouse in downtown Greenville we have the honor of being served for our 17th wedding anniversary and oh boy this place is top notch. The atmosphere is clean and romantic especially at night . They have several levels in the entire restaurant from outside seating to indoor seating, they took us to a very private area in an elevator where we can celebrate in an intimate setting, the host waiters all the employees very professional attends every need made our day very very special. It was our first time going and we are a bourbon and whiskey lovers and they had a separate menu just for bourbon lovers. The drinks were 10 out of 10 well balanced of course they made my drink stronger since it was our anniversary night lol food they have multiple menus got a little confusing since it was our first time but they serve family style to go with steak or protein If you choose so you can share with your partner atmosphere decorated glass all the around the room, so you can see the heart of the city, it was so romantic the food I ordered the prime rib, steak and side of mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts and oh my God it was so good. I think I ate my steak. Less than 10 minutes. Laugh out loud Our waiter knew the menu inside and out offered dessert we had the cheesecake and oh my God I’m a cheesecake lover this cheesecake even my husband had a piece because he usually doesn’t do cheesecake but he loved it, I was shocked he always old-fashioned. Oh my God he didn’t return it. He drunk it as soon as it came to the table it made him smile his favorite steak filet mignon and it was so so so good. It melted right in your mouth well cooked to perfection plan to spend some money, but your money spend is worth the service, there’s valet parking so for those who do not know or or your first time you don’t have to park two blocks away which we didn’t didn’t know but next time we will have our car valet This place is perfect for celebrations ordate night in the background, they all types of music which helped us just relax they play some Motown music and downstairs they had live music playing on the first floor. Everyone was dressed professionally in black-and-white and they were patient when you were trying to order even though they had a full dining room food came out in decent timing, which was great since we were hungry, definitely recommend this place a 10 out of 10. of course the bill was 100 and something dollars but to me for a place like this. It was well worth the price they had some awesome choices for food Just know that your side are separate and it doesn’t come with protein it’s served family style and you charge separately for each side that’s the only thing that I will say a little confusing...
