I've been to High Alpine Brewing Company twice now, and my impressions haven't changed much. The first time, I ordered the "High Alpine" pizza, which came out overcooked with the crust burnt throughout, though the flavors were decent. My wife ordered the Beet and Goat Cheese salad with lemon champagne vinaigrette, which she absolutely loved. In fact, she ordered the same salad during our second visit! On that second visit, my wife and I sat on the second-level deck. The atmosphere was pleasant, and it was quiet enough for conversation. However, the space is small--great for up to 4 people, but not ideal for larger groups. Larger groups would be more comfortable on the first floor. We started with the hummus appetizer, which was fantastic. It came with olives on top and an assortment of sides, including garlic bread, red peppers, carrots, and cucumbers. The garlic bread, in particular, was amazing! For my main dish, I tried "The Mountaineer" pizza. Unfortunately, it arrived at room temperature. The crust retained some heat, but the meat was cool, and the cheese lacked any pull. While the flavors were okay, the temperature was a letdown. My wife's salad, as always, was excellent. As for pricing, I find it a bit steep. An 11-inch specialty pizza runs from the low to high $20s, and drinks are charged per refill. The menu is limited, offering just a couple of sandwiches, brats, salads, and pizzas. Service was about what you'd expect--nothing out of the ordinary. Overall, I'd rate this place as average, but since my wife loves the salad so much, it earns an extra point.

We were let down by our visit here. The food looks great on the website. However, the mountaineer pizza was burned. It was pricey so we ate it. The Caesar salad with chicken was flavorful but the meat was cold (not hot were used to it being served). The sandwiches were good. The chicken came shredded - again, just not how we’re used to it. The pretzel was small for the price. (Edit to add that they were comparing it to the AMC Bavarian pretzel) The water in the metal cups tasted weird. Since we thought it might be the metal cups, we didn’t order soda or lemonade. The ‘Green Gate’ beer was very good. There was only one server in the whole place and he did an ok job. My impression is that it’s a brewery that serves expensive food. And if you’re going to have a wood fired pizza oven, you NEED to know how to use it. Burned or undercooked doesn’t work for me when I’m spending $26 for an 11” pizza. (*Edit to add: We owned pizza restaurants for years in Indiana. No matter how you are cooking it, you shouldn’t serve it when it’s BLACK on the bottom. And, I did do an internet search Scott - thanks for the advice!) The atmosphere is a cool vibe tho. (Edit to add: my husband had been wanting to go there all week to try the beer so he was happy he got to do that. And everywhere we ate that week was expensive I’ll agree with that part for sure)

I had never heard of High Alpine Brewing Co and I have no idea why! Not only do they have a very good selection of beers, there was also speciality vodka and bourbons available. I loved their hazy IPA which was amazingly hazy and easy drinking. We also enjoyed the smoked trout dip and it was amazing. My only complaint was that it was so good I ate all of right away! I have truly never had a better dip! It was the perfect consistency and the crostini’s were also baked wonderfully and were soft on the inside and crunch on the outside. We ordered the Rafano pizza after much debate on what to get. I honestly wanted to get one of everything because the menu is so well curated. Our service was great as well, we arrived late lunch and got immediate seating. There was some computer glitch when we ordered so our entrees took some time to get out. Minor setback but I’ve also been in the serving industry and the wait did not hinder my experience at all. I was quite impressed with our servers cheerful persona even though he was the only server and tables were setting one after the other. I cannot wait to tell more people about this hidden gem!

Terrible food. Servers tried but failed. Avoid.

Editing this review as I recognize the above is vague: We arrived at High Alpine around 1:45pm on a Sunday. They were surprisingly very busy during this time, but our party of 6 1/2 was seated relatively quickly. The first red flag was just how chaotic our service seemed. We had 2 servers who were constantly checking on us (great), however, neither seemed to know what the other had put in or even asked us. Therefore we were getting asked the same questions over and over by two different servers who appeared to not be communicating very well. Our drink orders came out relatively quickly, but the issues started when we put in food orders. The male server set expectations that the one pizza we ordered would probably take 20-25 minutes to come out because the kitchen was behind (ok, thanks for letting us know), but that our apps would come out first. Twice after we put in our order with the male server, the female waitress came over to take our food order (which the male server had already done)....red flag. We waited for almost an entire hour with NO food before we finally started wondering where the appetizers were since tables around us were getting apps and food, but had arrived after us. After flagging down the servers who appeared visibly frazzled, they "checked on our order" (which I do not think was ever put in) and it came out about 10 minutes later. We ordered the salmon dip (basically a block of sour cream with a couple of pieces of smoked salmon thrown in for good measure... very unappealing), the Buratta plate (the "fresh mozzarella" was slimy and extremely unappetizing my toddler didn't even want to touch it) and the Fig and Pig pizza had no fig or pig to speak of on it. We had come to High Alpine based on the reviews and left extremely disappointed. In addition, one person in our part asked the wait staff how much the t-shirts were and she was told $20, but when the bill came it was charged at $25. I know, I know, only a $5 difference, but if the staff does not KNOW how much something is, please don't tell your patrons a "guess". Simply say "I'm not sure, let me check that for you"... Overall, the servers could have managed expectations much better. And the food was disappointing. Do not go here unless it is only for the beer (which...

I wanted to like this place. I really did. The menu items that we tried were good, the 2 beers that we tried were tasty, and the rest of the menu read as delicious.

Our servers were nice and friendly, it just seems that we caught them at a bad time. Shortly after we arrived and ordered our food a couple of large parties showed up and consumed the staff. We had to find our own silverware, then walk downstairs and find staff to close our bill out (and that was after a good long wait hoping they'd get a break from the party)

Now, the really tough pill for us to swallow, the value proposition of the food here is just plain horrible.

I've worked in the restaurant industry for my entire life. I'm intimately familiar with COGs, ordering processes and pricing, labor costs, and overheads. And knowing all of that makes it even worse.

We ordered the Sausage Platter ($18) with an add on Bavarian Pretzel ($9 as an add on, or $14 if ordered standalone) and add on cheese sauce ($4) A small house salad ($9) and 2 beers ($7 each)

The sausage platter was 2 measly links of sausage (though very tasty) and a handful of sauerkraut and house made mustard. The $4 add on cheese sauce was less than a 2oz for FOUR DOLLARS EXTRA. - This plate maybe cost them $5.00 to make, yet it cost $22 with the cheese sauce?!

From a customer standpoint Bavarian pretzels are always a waste of money in my opion, but my kids like them. Even so, it should have been no more than $6 as an add on and $9 as standalone.

The small house salad came with literally two rounds of cucumber slices and one singular cherry tomato cut in half. We did ask for no onions, so I can't speak to how much onion would've come on it. This plate cost them - at most - $2 to make, more likely about $1.25 - $1.50

The beers were well priced, and tasty. No complaints there.

All in, with tip and taxes, our bill was about $75 for what was effectively one full meal and 2 beers. And we wound up going to McDonald's to get more food for our kids.

We have, quite literally and very recently, spent less money at Disney World on food for a...

So my husband, my son and myself has been on the road for at least 13 hours from LA California to Colorado. We decided to stop by at Gunnison and enjoy a sit in dinner at High Alpine Brewery and Restaurant after long hours on the road and 4 more hours to go. At first it was great. One of the young server got us a table and a guy serve us water right a way. We gave our order and waited. After waiting for 30 minutes we saw our server passing by our table so we called her and ask her about our order. Her response was “let me check the kitchen and see how much longer”......and she did not said anything else. I was watching her (our server) and constantly saw her chatting at the front counter. After almost 45 minutes she brought our appetizers ....Humus with cut veggies which could have been prepared and served immediately as soon as we placed our orders. Again we waited and it was an hour already....we finished our appetizers (we were hungry and getting in a bad mood) and we’re still waiting for our food. The young server passed by our table again without saying anything so we called her attention. My husband asked her what’s going on with our order, it’s been an hour and we never heard from her. She became very defensive and told my husband that it’s not her fault and it’s not the kitchens fault. She further added that there’s only one oven working. We ended up canceling our order and paid for the appetizers . My husband talked to the manager but the same excuse about the oven and that they have a big order of pizza that day...and was not really apologetic about the server’s CUSTOMER SERVICE. Our order does NOT even need to be in the oven except for my son’s pizza. We ordered salad, sandwiches and pizza plus the humus appetizer. This restaurant does not deserve no star at all. Very Unprofessional employees and does not really care about their customers! We don’t even know how their food tastes like. Oh wait.....humus is pretty bland and poor plate...
