I don’t give a lot of 5 stars to restaurants because it must be really out of this world to get 5 stars from me. It’s rare. There are a lot of 4 and 4.5’s out there so I reserve the 5’s for the ones who really kill it. These ladies really did an excellent job. I haven’t seen this many staff in one place all week in the valley. It improved their service immensely. They kept the water filled and even brought a pitcher for our part of 5. Others cleared plates and filled coffee. They kept us informed of where we were on the wait list during our short wait too. The build your own omelette was the best item we tried. It had amazing flavor and held together well. I wish the pumpkin pancake had more flavor but it was good. The fruit stuffed walked weren’t actually ‘stuffed’ but had fruit on top. The only real complaint I have is the table syrup over really maple syrup but I know it’s expensive. We also enjoyed the chicken and waffles and a chicken sandwich. The restroom and entire place were clean. The staff were friendly. We enjoyed the murals on the walls and the atmosphere. We’ll be back (next year)!

Passing through Gunnison again, we chose this place for lunch after we found the Dive closed. Backcountry Cafe seems popular and feels like a local place. We sat inside as there was a wait for the back patio. Their menu offers all day breakfast as well as American-type lunch options. They have a lot of choices available and there's probably something for everyone. Parents and fiancé all got Philly cheesesteaks and fries for lunch. I was feeling more breakfast-y, so I got the "Cowboy breakfast" which came with one egg, a pancake, and bacon. I also added a side of home fries. The food was good. Nothing super remarkable, but good. Everything was cooked properly and they hit my preferred level of doneness on both my scrambled eggs and my bacon. The pancake was light and fluffy. My fam liked their Phillies and fries. The home fries were awesome but for a few larger bites that were a little undercooked. Service was friendly and very fast -- despite being very busy, they got our food out to us in less than 15 minutes. This is a good stop if you're craving some American grub or breakfast!

Drove in from Lake City, stopped here for a quick lunch, before doing errands in Gunnison. I decided to have breakfast instead. I ordered a 2 egg breakfast with hashbrowns, sausage, and a biscuit with gravy. Everything was delicious except the gravy. I'm a Texas girl. I love me some white gravy, or white sausage gravy. It was the grossest I've ever eaten. I only took one bite and it was a big "nope." My husband said the reuben sandwich was delicious. I liked the place, but all the signs about "not camping," or as I read it, "don't sit at your table too long" were rude. We get it. You're busy. The service was excellent. Friendly waitstaff. But, if I want to come in with some friends and visit for a little bit over a nice meal, I should feel free to do so. The prices were high. It costs us $36.09, plus $1.44 for using a credit card, plus tip. $36.09 for breakfast and a sandwich. Surely I can relax with my husband and/or my friends if I want to, instead of...
