We visited Sherpa Cafe on a Sunday evening, and the experience was quite enjoyable. Our family of five was seated promptly at a table that fit us comfortably, though it was close to a ceiling speaker that was a bit louder than preferred. Despite that, we were able to chat without too much difficulty.
Service was efficient; our drinks and silverware arrived quickly, and our orders were taken soon after. We started with cheese naan and vegetable samosas. The naan had a nice texture and was fresh, though I think I'd prefer trying the garlic naan next time for more flavor. The samosas were tasty, but I found them lacking a bit of heat compared to what I'm used to.
Two of our kids ordered chicken fingers, which came with a generous portion of fries, while the third enjoyed the Beef Momos. He found them juicy and reminiscent of soup dumplings, although he wasn't a fan of the accompanying sauce. My wife had the Paneer Korma, which she liked a lot but couldn't finish, and I opted for the Chicken Makhani, which turned out to be essentially Butter Chicken. It was delicious, and like the others, I ended up with leftovers.
While the initial service was quick, it took longer than expected to receive our to-go boxes and check, which added about 20-30 minutes to our visit.
Overall, I'd recommend Sherpa Cafe. If you're not seeking spicy dishes, it's a solid choice for a...
Read moreDriving through Gunnison for overnight stay, found this cafe on Google. Who would think you find a restaurant ran by Native Nepalese. My husband and I ordered Sherpa sampler (chicken curry, cream spinach, naan, steam rice and rice pudding dessert) for $25. It was plenty for the two of us. The service was quick. We didnt experience any of the negativity per other reviews posted here. This is by far the cheapest dinner for us in the past 2.5nweeks road trip. So we dont understand why others complained the high price. Their curry is as good as we tasted somewhereselse. I think what people dont understand is that with Nepal borders Indian, China & Tibet, the culinary blended. Its just like curry taste different from different regions in India. You cannot say the curry in Sherpa is bad. They just have their own taste which may not be what you used to. Anyway, we enjoy our dinner there and was well taken care of with quick service. (Forgot to take pictures of our food. We...
Read moreWorst Indian food I’ve ever had. I came to Gunnison from Salt Lake City where I usually get Indian food at once a week. Sherpa not only has a very minimum menu, but their food is extremely bland.
The garlic cheese naan had hardly any garlic on it and maybe there was a piece of cheese on it somewhere but I couldn’t taste it at all. I could barely even taste the garlic. My husband ordered chicken tikka masala and I ordered chicken makhani. First, they did not ask for a spiciness level, which I have never been at an Indian restaurant where they didn’t take that down. Then the food tasted exactly the same. Maybe they got our order wrong, but the lady even checked it when we were picking up the takeout to make sure and wrote on one of them so we would know which was which. But they tasted exactly the same. Extremely bland, and no spice at all. If I hadn’t already left and gone back to my apartment with the food to eat I would’ve asked...
