One thing I can say about Black Bear Diner is you never leave there hungry. Their servings are large and there’s always enough for me to have at least one or two meals from the leftovers I take home. So even though their prices are high, it’s worth it for me. I did pay $21 and something for a chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and green beans the other day, but I also got a little side salad and a cornbread biscuit for that price and it was so much food that it was heavy for me to carry. The woman who waited on me was just delightful. She was an older lady with a beautiful smile, and she had really pretty glasses on. It was really crowded in there as it always is, and there were people waiting and grumbling a little, but she didn’t ignore them like the others servers we’re doing, she kept looking up and smiling at them and saying “we’ll be right with you. It’s gonna be worth it!” What a great employee!
The green beans and the mashed potatoes were great, I love their mashed potatoes, they have little pieces of the peelings and bacon and butter in them and they are so yummy! The steak and mashed potatoes took up the entire plastic container, this is the green beans and the salad and the biscuit on the side. The steak and potatoes were covered with gravy unlike some restaurants which only put a little dollop of gravy right on top of the steak. The green beans were really tasty made with bacon and I think some onions. Since I’m being honest about all the great stuff, I do have to say that the gravy is pretty tasteless. It definitely needed salt and pepper and a little garlic salt and a little onion salt in my opinion, but I ended up enjoying THREE MEALS from this lunch I bought, making that a definite bargain in my opinion. There is definitely a reason why this place is always packed. It’s good food and a lot of it and the servers are friendly and helpful. Kudos to Black...
Read moreAugust 2021 I ordered a full order of biscuits & gravy. Which consisted of 2 biscuits smothered with gravy. When I got home to eat my meal.😲OMG, it is HUGE ( I wasn't expecting that)! The biscuits were as BIG as a Bear paw🐾 split in half & smothered with their delicious creamy gravy. I could only eat one biscuit & will save the other as a leftover. It's absolutely worth ordering. The staff was super friendly too! Thanks, Black Bear, for a HEARTY BREAKFAST that I was craving!😁👍
December 2021 Love Black Bear Diner, so I was treated out by a friend for breakfast to celebrate my birthday meal.🥳 I ordered the full order of Biscuits & Gravy, which never disappoints; it's always so delish & filling. Took home a Coconut Cream Pie as my birthday dessert.🥳
August 2022 Always have a great dine-in experience at Black Bear & is my favorite restaurant for breakfast. I love the Grizz menu item & my Mom usually gets either their Biscuits & Gravy or their Vegetarian Omelet. I did take home, which I loved their Fresh Strawberry Lemon Cream Pie. OMG, it is so delish with the graham cracker crust. A must-have dessert to try. Like they say, it's a spoonful of sunshine! And it sure was! 😋🌞😊
Late post September 15, 2023 My boyfriend and I loved dining in our favorite restaurant with the HUGE plates of food. My boyfriend wanted to try this time the BIG Daddy burger, but his request as an add-on was an over easy egg. Which he enjoyed. I had the Pumpkin pancakes since it was around the pumpkin season🎃, and they were absolutely delish. 😋 Loved the flavor with the hint of...
Read moreI wanted so much to hate this place. All because of the word of others.
Well this morning changed all that. Went in around 9:00 this morning to redeem my wife's complimentary birthday breakfast. Oh my goodness, when her plate arrived I knew it could feed 3 people. 2 massive biscuits, gravy, 2 7" chicken sausages, and 2 scrambled eggs.
I chose the fruit cup. Included was grapes, cantaloupe, melon, and strawberries. Exactly what a fruit bowl should contain. Unlike other local eateries.
The oj is made fresh, on-site and these are not Wal-Mart oranges.
The coffee was good, albeit too expensive. I know most restaurants make up for meal losses through selling drinks. What happened to .25 unlimited coffee? Yes. I'm that old.
Our server was one of the best we've ever had. She alone could represent the entire chain of BBDs. Coffee refills were offered regularly by various servers, always a plus.
I was a bit disappointed in BBD not offering cottage cheese, nor yogurt for those of us light breakfast eaters. Grits were offered though.
The atmosphere is surreal, pleasant and accommodating. We were fortunate to arrive when we did, because they got busy.
Will we most definitely return.
Lastly, thank you for the...
