Planet Fitness — Local services in Hanford

I’ve had my Black card membership for a couple years now and only had issues with tanning beds being dirty when I get in and occasionally not turning on, which they usually fix with a quick call. As such, I always take the time to clean the machines myself before I get in. Being that my wedding is in 2 days, I was excited to get a tanning session in. However, when I got in the machine, it wouldn’t turn on. I called the front desk and was told that because my phone call was past the time frame I requested, the machine registered as being on and I was unable to tan again for 24 hours. I explained that the machine never actually turned on and they were welcome to come into the room to feel that the room was not warm. They mentioned how people lie and double tan, so they were unable to override the system. I further explained that the machine never actually turned on though and that I was unaware it counted my time to clean the bed, undress, and put lotion on as time in the bed. Eventually, they turned the bed back on but it was only on for 2 minutes for shutting off. They then essentially called me a liar, stating that for that to happen, the machine must’ve been overheating from prior use. Tanning beds don’t overheat after 2 minutes and it wasn’t on during the 10 minute period I was in the room. Seemed more likely that since they input the time, they only allotted me 2 minutes. After talking to the manger, I was told that there was nothing they could do, as it was all my fault for not calling sooner. They need to be able to track whether the bed actually turns on or not and not just count the minutes you’re in the room. From a loyal customer who has always recommended Planet Fitness, much less stress to pay the extra and go to a nice, clean tanning salon where your business is appreciated and...

I travel frequently for work and have visited many Planet Fitness locations across the West, and I have to say—this one in Hanford is among the best I’ve been to. While the gym itself is on the smaller side, the layout is well thought out, making it easy to move through workouts efficiently.

The equipment is all in great shape—clean and fully functional—which is something I always appreciate. The entire facility, including the locker rooms and showers, is very well maintained. Sure, there are some minor improvements that could be made, like floor repairs in the men’s locker room and a few bulbs that need replacing in one of the tanning booths, but overall, the cleanliness here is top-notch.

Another standout feature is the well-lit parking lot at night, which is a huge plus for anyone visiting after dark.

What really set this visit apart was the staff—everyone was friendly, but Rudy, in particular, made a lasting impression. His customer service was exceptional, and he truly made me feel welcome. His positive attitude and engagement with members show that he enjoys being there, making for one of the best interactions I’ve had with a staff member at any Planet Fitness.

I attended PF in the past and loved the flexibility it offered and the ability to have control over my membership. (It didn't feel like other gyms with contracts and crazy fees. I was able to attend according to the life events going on at the time).

However, I recently moved to the area and decided to open a gym membership with PF again. This experience was different. I'm not sure if it was a policy change since the last time I attended or if it's just the Hanford location. There is no flexibility to freeze my account. I am near the end of a pregnancy and was told I need a medical letter. Which I could get, but just seems like a hassle (and made me feel like I'm tied to a contract opposite of what is advertised) There are not many payment method options or flexibility to choose an auto payment date. (This seems like a way to scam clients into paying late fees, not to mention the NSF fee their banks charge.) Ultimately, it may feel like PF is the choice because their monthly fee seems affordable, but with all the loopholes you may end up paying more than what you expect.
