I really hate to write a poor review, as the food is really good- in my opinion, the best in town. I go here at least once a month. The service, too, is usually also good. However, on my most recent visit( celebrating my friend’s birthday), things did not go as smoothly. It took a while ( at least 10 minutes) to even be seated- though, this in itself is not a big deal. When we were seated, we were seated in the back of the restaurant largely out of sight, which proved to be a problem later. Our server came by and took our drink order and appetizer order. When the appetizer came, we placed our main order for two regular, uncooked rolls. Nothing complicated. We waited 30 minutes for our order. We watched another table be seated. Another 15 minutes. The table who was seated after us got their food. Our server still hadn’t checked on us once. I could see her at the back of the restaurant on her phone. No big deal, I get up and ask how our food is coming, she says “ it’s because there was a large party in front of you, and that’s why it’s taking so long” this would have checked out, except for the fact the party in front of us already had their food, and so did the table who had arrived AFTER us. No apology for the long wait either. She says she’ll check on our food in the kitchen. I sit back down and we wait another 30 minutes for our food to come. We’re not checked on again during that whole time. By the time our food finally comes, two tables had already been seated in front of us, and had their food. One had already left. We arrived at that 1:20 pm, and didn’t leave until 3:45. The restaurant wasn’t busy. Because of where we were seated, I could see what our server was up to- she spent almost the whole service on her phone. We ended missing the movie we were supposed to go see. It was fairly obvious that our server simply forgot to put in our order. Which is fine, but we never got an apology or anything. I understand that mistakes happen at work, but I would have liked at least an apology for how long it took. I would have complained then, but I didn’t want to waste any more time, or further disrupt our plans, as we were already running late enough. I visit toshiko fairly often, and we had a similar problem the last time we were here - around Christmas time, I took my mother in law here- and we had the same server. She answered a phone call WHILE taking our order. I do try to be an understanding person, and so I didn’t worry about it. I know stuff comes up sometimes. But to have it be a consistent problem 4 months later Is rather disappointing, especially when it disrupted an important meal. Overall some of the worst service I’ve received at any restaurant. I will be taking my business elsewhere...
Read moreUsed to be a loyal customer, but never again! Let me start by saying I would order from here at least two times a week, sometimes up to four, especially during this quarantine time - let’s say it was often enough that the manager knew me and my order by heart - However, their wait times were insanely long (over an hour, even when they would say only 30 minutes), orders were often wrong, and at times they wouldn’t even answer the phone. But nonetheless, we loved the food, so we made do with all their faults. That all changed tonight. After ordering the food at 5:50 pm, finally receiving it at 6:45 pm and arriving home to find half of our over $50 order was incorrect, I called them to see what our options would be. Jessica informed me that it would take 20 minutes to remake the correct rolls and that we would have to return the whole order to the restaurant. So back we went. I figured since it was their mistake and the fact that we waited for an hour for our dinner on top of being required to drive back, some sort of compensation would be made. Not once did Jessica take accountability, instead she blamed both myself and my husband for mishearing her (even though both of us clearly heard her read the correct rolls back) and expected us to pay for the two rolls they didn’t correctly make in the first place. When I asked if she could do anything for the inconvenience or make an exception, it wasn’t met with any resolution. In the end I decided to have the entire meal refunded. I left with a sour taste in my mouth and a definitive decision to not support this restaurant anymore. It might be an old school mindset, but what happened to good ole’...
Read moreThis spot is in a shopping center, so you know what that means? There will be parking, yes! The restaurant is not big, not small, very simple, not much decor. The biggest party that can sit together is about 9.
We made a reservation for 11 people. So we were seated right away. In this Japanese restaurant you can order hot food, food you can cook yourself on the grill, and of course sushi rolls.
We ordered several things on the menu. Gyoza, edamame, calamari, and shrimp tempura. A couple of sushi’s and a platter of sashimi. To cook, we ordered chicken, shrimp, steak, pork belly, scallops, and vegetables.
Right away we were disappointed our server came back twice to tell us they were out of calamari and shrimp for the grill. Then she came back and said they were out of pork belly. Two minutes later came back and said they did have the pork belly. It was barely 2pm and they were already out of items, that is disappointing.
The food tasted ok. I did really enjoy the steak. My salmon sushi was mediocre, the rice was overcooked. Also, it was weird individual plates weren’t automatically given to us. When I asked the lady she replied with “I can bring some” well how were we going to eat the food? Off the grill?
We spent a good amount of money here and the service was mediocre. They...
