I have passed by here maybe a million times It seems like this place is just a landmark. A couple weeks ago I seen a bunch of people filming something here; later I heard it was a commercial with Beyonce . Not that I was interested but was curious definitely about the food which sometimes you get a place that looks alot different than how the food is . I walked in hungry on a later morning wanting to eat a pancake breakfast and that is what I ordered. The place itself is a little worn out it definitely needs some TLC but the people here are as real as your going get from the cook Julio to the owner John and his son Michael who helps around . The owner happens to be blind man with a big personality waits on tables and charms his customers with his jokes. He puts a smile on their faces and a giggle here and there before you eat and afterwards. The fact that he is blind does not hinder him at all in serving his customers with 100% effortless perfection He amazed me as he knows everything that is going on in his place and does it with ease and joy . Ok getting to my delightful breakfast I had that truckers special which consisted of 2 eggs bacon potatoes and 2 gigantic pancakes. The pancakes were made to perfection, fluffy and scrumptious with butter and what Impressed me they had real maple syrup, which is a rarity nowadays. Usually. The high end pancake places have maple syrup, but they charge you 2 to 3 dollars extra this place just put the whole bottle on the table. So not only did I get a wonderful breakfast, but I feel like I experienced this entire diner with all the great personalities who help make it what it is a real A+++ experience for food...
Read moreI have been in NJ for over 10yrs, driven by hundreds of times, never giving the place a 2nd thought. Recently looked up best Diners in NJ and was surprised to see this place listed. Read the reviews on Google and all you see is great food, John is great, great home fries, etc. Today I took my family ( of 3) for breakfast and what reviews won't tell you is John is legally blind and takes all the orders, no pen, no pad and moves around the diner with the grace of a teenager with Eagle Eye vision. He's funny with the regulars, has the memory of an elephant & the food is absolutely delicious. Home fries, eggs, bacon, pancakes, coffee all spot on. The Chef is on point, made to order as John gives it to him, also no paper trail, John just gives him the order and he makes it happen, super impressive. My 15yr old son was impressed and you know there not impressed unless it's on YouTube. He even rung us up, they take cash, credit, debit and even after being there for about an hr, we told him 1 dish we had and he was still able to recieit our whole order, did the math in his head and told us what we owed. There are 20yrs olds who can't break a $5 bill if something was $3.47. He processed my payment on the debit card machine and cracked a joke, hopefully I didn't charge you $5,500, lmao. He didn't. Society can learn alot from John; hard-working, determination, ability and seeing everything in himself that others are blind to. We will see...
Read moreAfter a long day in the city watching the Macys Day Parade, my two teens, my husband and I were in search of Thanksgiving dinner. We knew it would not be the regular dinner but everything in Hasbrouck Hts was closed, even the Asian restaurants which we were kind of counting on. As we walked back to our hotel we saw Bendix Diner which appeared closed and dark but we called, and a man answered and said if we could get there soon he would give us food to go. We walked into a darkened diner and we ordered to go triple decker deli sandwiches and fries. As we chatted with the owner we came to realize he was blind but extremely good at doing everything. His sons were in the back and made our food. We enjoyed great conversation about his life, sports, NYC, and raising children. Back at our hotel, we enjoyed all of our delicious sandwiches piled high with fresh turkey and roast beef, some with bacon, all with fresh lettuce and tomatoes. The fries were generous and tasty. As much as we needed to fill our bellies that untraditional Thanksgiving night, we agreed we our souls more. Thanks John!! (and...
