Da Nani Pirates — Restaurant in Hawaii

I believe this food truck is normally parked behind the Azeka Shopping Center in Kihei but I tried try them at the Maui Sunday Market in Kahului.

MENU: Burgers, fish & chips, wings, tacos, salads, sandwiches, shrimp.

FOOD: Fish & Chips I received 2 1/4 pieces of fish and an obscene amount of chips (fries). The fish were coated in a deliciously creamy batter, moist and cooked perfectly crispy, but super oily. I could see the fish resting in fryer baskets but perhaps a power nap on some paper towels would help absorb some of the oil. A sole dipping sauce came with, which was a really dill-y yet tasty tartar sauce. The chips, according to others' photos were supposed to be curly fries but, the mountain of spuds that I received were mostly stripped of their skins, leaving thin, soggy strings of potatoes that resembled udon noodles. A few pieces of potato missed the cutter and came sliced scalloped-style. I can forgive the oily fish as this is a deep-fried dish but the mess of chips killed it.

SERVICE: Counter service was friendly and professional. I was quoted a 30 minute wait time and they were very accurate as I waited about 25 minutes due to their busyness.

Stopped here last night on a whim and because the aroma was so good. What a great find! The smoked pork sliders were amazing - so tender and delicious. The meat was smokey and the barbecue sauce tangy without drowning the pork. The mac salad was also pretty extraordinary too, not slathered in mayo but made with fresh herbs, nuts and lime. I could have made a meal of the mac salad, it was that good. I was really impressed with the care taken to pack my take away box and make the food look as appealing as on a restaurant plate. Great counter service too -very friendly. We got to chatting and the guy at the counter talked about how he makes his seared ahi tacos plus how he'd worked months to perfect his fried calamari recipe. We are going back tonight to try those. This place is open late too which is a real plus. I couldn't have asked for a better late night dinner.

If heaven was a place, it would be Da Nani Pirates in this food truck lot: friendly service, wonderful food, good decor, chickens pecking around, and spongebob playing on the TV as we waited for food at the picnic benches. The fish tacos were superb. The fish is fresh, perfectly cooked, and generously portioned. Tortillas taste homemade and the cabbage on it was fresh as were the sauces. The flavor combination is so good. Describing it doesn’t do it justice. The Calypso sandwich was the real star. It’s an enormous amount of food for a very reasonable price - large pieces of ono both battered and fried and grilled with greens, macadamia feta sauce, and other fixings, on a homemade (!) extra large guava bun. Served with curly fries and their very special fry sauce (sweet-salty-bbq), it is really a great, one-of-a-kind fresh and tasty plate.
