Am I recommending sushi in a strip mall? Yes! This place was amazing. Be prepared for some of the best sushi.
We ordered the 007, Joy, Rainbow, and TNA Rolls to share. One person ordered a California roll and one person in the group that doesn't eat sushi ordered the children's shrimp tempura with extra shrimp.
The presentation of each roll before we started digging in was perfect. If the rolls looked delicious, the taste exceeded expectations.
The 007 was tasty and went the fastest.
I was uncertain about the Joy roll. Jalapeños on sushi? It works. The slight burn you get from the thinly sliced pepper with the rib and seeds goes well with the roll. If you don't like spicy food at all, skip this roll or remove the peppers first. Otherwise, be prepared for a treat.
The Rainbow roll looked amazing. This was the most colors I've seen on a Rainbow roll and the taste matched. Yum.
I ordered the TNA roll for something new to me. This roll is broiled and comes out hot. A cooked sushi roll sounds like it could be disgusting, but it was anything but that. Wow. I would order this roll again and again, but honestly, I would order any of these rolls again.
I'm told the California roll was very good. This is a good safe roll if you are new to sushi. Some of the rolls above use the California roll as the base. If you have had a California roll before, you know this is not an exciting roll and can be bland if prepared with imitation crab meat. So why are these rolls so good? From what I can tell, they use real lump crab meat.
The shrimp tempura with a side of rice was a hit for our non sushi person.
I want to go back to try the many different rolls on the back of the menu.
Now for the bad news. We ate here in August 2021 when the Delta covid variant is spreading across the globe. Miso Phat Sushi has had to reduce their seating capacity to have tables far enough apart to meet indoor dining guidelines. We arrived at 5:30 on a Sunday and they already had an hour wait. Before we were seated, it was a 2 hour wait. It's worth the wait. Here are my suggestions regarding the wait:
Go shopping. Longs Drugstore is across the street. Maybe buy some aloe lotion for that sunburn you might be sporting. I did.
If you traveled west to get here, you're used to eating earlier. Come eat dinner before the local lunch and dinner time.
Do takeout. There was a steady flow of bagged food going out the door. You can eat back your place or on the beach. It's hard to beat the dinning atmosphere of a Maui beach on a nice day.
Try lunch here. I'm not sure how busy it gets, but worth a shot. They open at 11am seven days a week at the time of this review.
Bottom line: This...
Read moreMy visit to Miso Phat Sushi on Kihei Road was an outstanding experience from start to finish. Despite being in a time crunch, the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us, making sure we could enjoy our meal and still make our tee time in 30 minutes.
From the moment we mentioned our tight schedule, the worker sprang into action, ensuring our order was taken promptly and delivered quickly. Their efficiency and attentiveness were truly impressive, allowing us to savor every bite without feeling rushed.
The sushi at Miso Phat is nothing short of phenomenal. The freshness and quality of the ingredients were evident in every piece, making it some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. Each roll was expertly prepared, bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. The variety on the menu catered to all tastes, and everything we tried was simply delicious.
Despite our tight schedule, we managed to enjoy our meal thoroughly and left right on time, thanks to the exceptional service. The combination of incredible sushi and outstanding hospitality made our visit memorable and satisfying.
If you’re in Maui and looking for top-notch sushi with excellent service, Miso Phat Sushi is the place to go. Whether you’re in a hurry or have time to spare, you’re guaranteed a fantastic dining experience. I highly recommend it—you won’t be...
Read moreVery surprised at such high ratings. Found the place in Kihei a bit lacking in every way. Our matradee was very pleasant and sat us at a small table prepared for use. Ordered the spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and 2 orders of the mussels. The rolls very small, tasteless, and no use of actual sushi rice. Presentation was poor and found that the cut was done wrong, meaning the sushi chef needs to learn to properly cut the fish for proper tenderness. The mussels were over cooked, minimal taste, and failed to meet relative standards of a good baked mussel. However, it was a good presentation. Very expensive at $5.00 per mussel. Not worth it. Ordered saki with our meal that never came until the point we were leaving. Most employee were too busy reminiscing about there activities prior to there shift to even realize they missed it. One was very open about how high he was while he was working. Really showed through his forgetfulness and lack of any professionalism. However, nobody seemed to care. Again, expected a 4.7 star restaurant to be so much more, certainly wasn't and would not recommend making the time or effort; unless you want substandard sushi and high prices. Incidentally the facility clearly boasts about being a Guy Fierre visited facility. Well Guy, I would rethink your visited and ratings, bad for...
