The service was great. The food came out hot and fast. The servers were all friendly. The atmosphere is great for the type of vibe they’re going for! They have various anime’ on tv and it’s a fun space. I give a lot of forgiveness for this being a new business and I think it’ll continue to improve…
The food needs to be worked on—other than hot and ready—it’s bland. I added everything on the table to try and remedy it. Failed.
I tried the gyoza, takoyaki, chicken bowl, and Isobel’s chicken ramen.
My favorite thing was the takoyaki and the passion fruit tea with coconut jellies. Takoyaki was hot and fresh but a little bland. But had awesome octopus to the dough ratio. Presentation was 💯 on point.
The chicken gyoza was bland. But hot and when you bit into it, it was crispy. The color was a little light and not too appetizing, the sauce was like a duck sauce packet from a Chinese restaurant, sweet and sour but nothing dazzling. Would prefer a dumpling sauce.
The chicken bowl is plain white rice, (some fried rice could improve this) bland. The chicken on both dishes was like they boiled a chicken breast and shredded it with nothing added.
The chicken ramen was bland even though it looks beautiful. Tasted like something I would eat when I’m sick. No flavor. I added chili garlic, soy, and Jalapeño to it as well—the half an egg and small amount of black garlic I tasted was the best part.
The eggs are perfection.
I will try this again once they have some time to get their feet under them—and I think I’ll try the tonkotsu next as I heard a table next to me say it was better than the...
Read moreI returned for a second chance review and the tonkatsu ramen bowl was pretty good. If you don’t like fatty pork I recommend asking for a substitute, with out, or something. The egg was cooked perfectly but cold. I guess they prep them ahead of time. The pork was good but the flavor didn’t work with the soup for me. The ramen itself of good. The brown sugar boba wasn’t bad, I was able to adjust the sweetness. The chicken karage had the same impact as the first time but if you mix chili crisps into the mayo they serve it’s 10x better.
This place popped up on my TikTok feed. I decided to try the mochi donuts, oolong milk tea with tapioca boba, chicken karage, and their chicken rice bowl. My plan is to go back for the, main attraction, ramen bowls. The mochi donuts were fresh and very tasty(Oreo and ube). However, the chicken rice bowl was not great. If you’re on a diet and are hanging out with friends it’s a good option because it is plain white rice, steamed corn, edamame, 1 piece of bok choy, and crispy onions with plain shredded chicken on top. The only thing on the bowl with any seasoning was the chicken at it was pale and plain like shredded rotisserie chicken and no garnishes or sauces. I was unimpressed. The chicken karage was ok. I’ve had better as far as the chicken being lightly dusted in seasoning with lightly fried Thai basil on top. I would recommend their karage if you’ve never had it before though. The chicken was nice and juicy. I will return for a second chance review after I’ve tasted...
Read moreHigh Point’s newest ramen spot is potentially also its best. At the very least, Iso Iso is the best equipped for dine-in. Décor is more than just functional here: the dark brick and woodwork is sleek and modern. Moreover, Iso Iso seemed to be well-staffed with folks who seemed to enjoy working there. A restaurant’s opening weeks can be stressful, and the absence of hangdog expressions or abject panic bodes well.
Iso Iso’s menu features Japanese apps, rice bowls, ramen, and boba teas. The latter two can be customized with add-ons and toppings. Whether you are a vegetarian or craving salty meat, like spicy or prefer mild, you should be able to find something here.
For our first visit, my wife and I split an order of Chashu Buns and a Tonkatsu Ramen (to which we added black garlic oil). Our food came out quickly, and the ramen was a plentiful portion. At $17, it was not the cheapest in town, but the execution made it worthwhile. The broth was rich, and flavorful, and the black garlic oil added another dimension that we didn’t realize we were missing. Toppings included pork belly, a marinated egg, mushrooms, bamboo, corn, and scallion, and they didn’t skimp on any of them. The Chashu Buns – good balance of refreshing and salty, excellent sauce – were a winning choice as well.
Boba/ramen/poke shops are no longer the novelty that they once were, but even in an increasingly competitive market, Iso Iso has the combination of fast and friendly service and well-executed food needed to make a name for itself. Here’s hoping it...
