I've been craving Indian for a while and I've always had a really good experience with take out from this location. The portions have always been enough for two with left overs and the chicken was generous along with the rice.
HOWEVER, I haven't actually been able to sit in due to finding out about this place when covid started and me finally being back in Oregon to come try this place in person.
I decided to go in for lunch on Friday (mind you I drove in about 20 minutes since I always had excellent takeout). I thought it'd be totally worth it. And the disappointment was from every direction.
I wasn't greeted. There was two people who tried to take my order. (Get it together). I would've understood if it was crazy busy (I used to be in food/beverage hospitality) but even then the experience is what brings customers back, right?
Anywho, I go forward with ordering and I ordered butter chicken ($15) (it's comes with rice) and I ordered a side of garlic naan (which was almost $5) extra. I didn't mind since I figured it would be delicious!! I had shared with someone because it was their first time trying Indian food.
The food arrived. My food was luke warm, which was unpleasant. The server had come back to ask if we are sure we didn't want to order more. Thinking to myself, (Yes, I'm sure, I'm an adult and can make adult decisions).
Thoughts: And why would I want to order more after my food is room temperature?
There were only two chunks of chicken in my butter chicken. It was watered down and not thick and creamy like it usually is. It made me feel as if I got the last of that batch and there just wasn't enough in the pot to make it a complete serving so they added something to it to increase the liquid (which killed the taste).
I quickly wanted to get out of there as I was disappointed throughout the whole experience. I tipped them 20% which I really shouldn't have because I, as a previous server know tips are earned and are not mandatory. But I knew I wouldn't be coming back to this establishment. So I went out with a bang! They've gone downhill from the take out experiences I've had. My advice would be to find...

πππ¦π¨π¬π©π‘ππ«π. My gosh, the atmosphere! From the moment one approaches the restaurant the experience is sublime, a beautiful wooden faΓ§ade adorns the entrance, windows, doors and all. With a wonderful warmth emanating from inside, upon entering your senses are caressed by the aromatic spices drifting out of the kitchen, and someone is always there to greet you. Art pieces adorn several walls in eye-catching displays, above the bar and even on the ceiling itself, with comfortably hefty seats as well. And not to mention the π¨ππππππππ, the notion of a traditional Indian restaurant comes to life in such a wonderful way it's difficult to describe. 10/10
πππ«π―π’ππ. We were waited on immediately, at first thinking we were the only people in house, it slowly dawned on us that not only were we not alone, we were being strategically and skillfully spaced apart from other parties to minimize noise pollution! We hardly noticed others, and even when we were a bit louder than usual no one seemed to notice. The food was brought out so readily I genuinely had to remind myself to let it cool down a bit... Extremely polite staff as well. 10/10
π π¨π¨π! Oh the food. Oh the wonderful food, as someone who doesn't frequent Indian restaurants, or restaurants of any kind, I was caught off guard, I'm no expert but Swagat will be my go-to from now on when it comes to all things Indian cuisine. 10/10
Overall, in my opinion, Swagat is a wonderful place to spend time with friends and family, eat wonderful food, and have plenty to take home when you're finished. (Seriously the portions are generous and...
Β Β Β Read moreI will start with saying I Love Swagat, I have gone to the Beaverton location for years. I recently moved to the Orenco station area, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out there was a Swagat near me. I decided to go in Friday night at dinner and was kind of shocked that their was not many customers in this location, which I now know why.
My friend went to use the restroom, and as I sat down, the first thing I noticed was that the walls were filthy. Then the server brought me water and there were floaties in my glass. While observing the water I accidentally dropped my sunglasses and they fell on the floor. I had to slide the table forward to get them. When I saw the floor, I was in absolute disgust. There was roughly two inches of dirt, grease, dust and hair up against the wall. I had to move the table to reach the floor, as I did I must have startled a nest of coach-roaches as they scurried and one ran across/ over the top of my foot. My friend came back from the bathroom and first thing she said was, βthat bathroom is nasty, their is a toilet bowl scrubber in the sink.β Without hesitation, I told the server β sorry we changed out mid, we are going across the street.β
Instantly the smell of the food no longer smelled good. . We couldnβt have left fast enough. This really sucks because I have loved Swagat for years and this may have ruined the other location for me.
I normally donβt post things unless they are extremely warranted. I honestly think this location needs a health and safety audit ASAP before...
