Extremely disappointed with our experience today. This was our second visit to this place, and unfortunately, it confirmed that we won’t be coming back again. We gave it another try hoping things had improved, but it was a mistake. The food was below average completely lacking flavor, poorly cooked lamb kabob , and definitely not fresh. Presentation was careless, and the taste didn’t justify the price at all. For a place that claims to offer good food, this was far from acceptable.
What made things worse was the overall service and attitude of the staff. I was here with my family, including young children, and instead of feeling welcomed, we felt uncomfortable and even embarrassed. To our surprise, they insisted on charging gratuity even for kids under 2 years old. That’s not just unreasonable, it’s disrespectful. We’ve dined at many restaurants with our family and have never encountered such a practice. It clearly shows that they’re more focused on squeezing money out of customers rather than creating a good experience.
The environment wasn’t family-friendly at all, the staff didn’t care to check if we were satisfied, and we had to wait longer than expected for cold food that didn’t live up to even the most basic standards. We had come with high hopes and good intentions, but left disappointed and upset.
This place seriously needs to re-evaluate their food quality, customer service, and billing policies. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone especially not families with young children. Very bad experience overall. We will not be returning, and I hope management takes feedback like...
Read moreWhat a great little gem hidden in Orenco Station. The pita bread with olive oil is a great complimentary starter. Add some hummus for a fee and you may not even need to order an entrée. I had a lamb shawarma (my first) and the flavor was excellent.
I visited at noon on a Tuesday and it was not crowded at all. I brought a party of around 10 and they were able to accommodate us no problem with an hour of notice. All gave high marks on the dishes from gyros to kababs. I also found the French fries unexpectedly good.
Price per person was about $10. The most expensive entrée I can recall on the menu was lamb shank around $18, but most of the a la carte items were near $8. Sides were not necessarily included with every dish but the amount of food was adequate even so.
The main concern with the visit was that there seemed to be only one server for the place. The food did not start to show up until nearly an hour had elapsed, but I think some delay was due to the staff waiting to approach while we had a few empty chairs due to no-shows.
It is only one data point but I saw similar concerns in other reviews, so I would say that this may not be the best choice for a quick bite. If you can afford to wait then I dare say that you won't be...
Read moreDon't be fooled if there aren't a ton of people in the restaurant. For some reason, this place isn't popular but I think their food is quite good. You'll be seated quickly, and a friendly wait staff will bring you a warm, giant pita to enjoy while perusing the menu. The cuisine is Middle Eastern -- more specifically, a hybrid of Lebanese & Iranian/Persian. The restaurant is vegan/vegetarian friendly. Most of the items on the menu are familiar dishes, ie mezze platters (hummus, babaghanoush, dolmas, spinach pies), kabobs and gyros. They also serve entree-style platters. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of chicken -- it's usually dry & boring. But the chicken plates at Salam are definitely worth trying. The chicken is super succulent and flavorful. They use both white & dark meat, and the chicken is braised in some kind of tangy sauce. All the platters are served with long-grain basmati rice. The owner of the restaurant is always present, often walking around & making sure everyone is happy. It's a solid restaurant that serves quality middle eastern food. I would...
