I'm actually surprised that this restaurant has so many good reviews based on my experience this evening. Almost everything we tried was bathed in sugar/corn syrup that wasn't supposed to be, our desserts were downright awful, and the customer service was extremely lackluster.
We ordered our appetizer off of their yellow paper "Special Menu": Chinese Spring Rolls, and what we got was a horrific mess of brown sugary goo all over the spring rolls that wasn't mentioned in the description of the rolls at all. This goo was most likely was corn syrup...although oddly brown in color (Karo??). It was disgusting and destroyed any flavor that the spring rolls themselves might have had. Each roll was also cut into several pieces length wise, which is odd, and the roll contents fell apart when we attempted to extract them from the goo they were in.
I ordered the Chicken Peanut Sauce Delight at the recommendation of one of the 3 servers that waited on us as she told me the Pad Thai had no peanut sauce added to it. The chicken was clearly commercially processed frozen chicken strip chunks and not cooked on site as each piece of chicken was uniform in shape, size, and texture, had zero flavor, and had no evidence that it had touched a wok or a fry pan (no brown glaze, no steam coming from the meat, no shimmer of oil). I'm actually heavily wondering if they were microwaved. The dish came with a handful of carrots, mostly broccoli stems, and cheap white rice. The peanut sauce itself was decent but tasted very sugary for what I thought would be a savory peanut sauce, and that's the only partially redeeming factor in an otherwise low quality, potentially microwaved, bland meal.
My partner ordered the Pad-See-Iew, and this was the only savory dish that actually was savory in flavor. However, all he got was a mound of wide noodles, slivers of broccoli stems, some egg, a few either natto beans or red beans, and clearly chopped in half pieces of the same processed chicken that was in my dish...and about half the amount of chicken for the same price as my dish.
Our desserts were downright horrific. My fried banana was coated with panko bread crumbs, fried in old grease, and over-fried so the banana dehydrated and lost all its flavor. It wasn't sweet at all, and tasted like a terrible chicken nugget.
The mango creme brulee (spelled ceme on the menu) had zero detectable mango flavor and strangely came with sprouts dressed on top. Someone also held the butane torch too close to the sugar top and that transfers the butane fuel into the sugar. So I got a "delightful" taste of butane when I tried eating this. Even the freakin mints they gave you at the end of the meal were low quality, tasted like alcohol, chalky, and had a very artificial mint taste.
We were trying to tell one of our 3 servers about the issues, but with all the different servers handling different parts of our dinner with varying degrees of command of the English language, I couldn't communicate my displeasure with the meal. It was a disgusting and disappointing experience.
I demand more for what ended up being a $48 meal.
As a further FYI: The restaurant's menu available online is inaccurate as most of the specials aren't available in the restaurant, and there were items on the in restaurant menu that were crossed off with a...
Read moreHave been here a couple of times so far. Has been a very pleasant experience.
Ambiance, service and most importantly food has been consistently top notch.
On the latest outing, ordered the golden fried calamari since i had never had calamari before. I liked the sauce a lot but i am not a fan of calamari itself. If you like calamari you will probably enjoy this dish a lot. If you are not a fan of seafood but like meat, their spicy sausage appetizers are recommended.
Ordered the shrimp wonton soup which was delicious and hearty with quite a few pieces of both shrimp wontons and whole shrimps as well. Don't be fooled by the soup bowl, it may look tiny due to its extended plate like shape, but the contents will fill your heart and stomach.
Tried the spicy noodles dried version with egg noodles, which came with a concentrated broth at the bottom. The delicate balance of ingredients was impeccable. Nothing was too spicy. No ingredient overshadowed the other. I would probably chuck the lettuce garnish out of this dish, but every other meat and vegetable ingredient was perfect.
Ended the night on Thai Tea Creme Brulee. Not too sweet. Nice brulee. It was delectable and i enjoyed it a lot.
Their service has also always been on point no matter how crowded the place becomes.
I have not had much experience with fine dining but i thoroughly enjoyed what they serve here, the way they serve it and the price point they serve it at. It can be more expensive than your average night out but i feel like it was very reasonable for the quality and quantity they serve and totally worth it based on my experience so far. For reference, the above 4 dishes cost ~$33 (total, w/o tip) which is really nice for two people sharing the meal without feeling hungry at the end of a fine dining experience.
Would love to keep coming back and...
Read morei’ve been to a ton of thai restaurants from the bottom of california to the top of oregon, i’ve been very fond of quite a few. that being said, this particular place is top quality food. absolutely fresh and full of flavor. great service, amazingly friendly staff, overall outstanding.
BUT i will include that their level 5 of spicy is nothing to mess with unless you’re a full on pepper head. i can handle many variations of thai level spice due to asking for max at each restaurant ive been to. this level 5 they have is quite extraordinary, please be prepared to cry through the meal. that’s not to say it wasn’t good by any means, i just personally had a very rough time powering through. well done. i applaud that.
SIDE NOTE TO THE STAFF: i would inform any customer who does want level 5 to give them a fair warning that you use the freshest thai chilis with some liquid capsaicin before hand. my recommendation for others who like spice, go with a 2, or 3 if you like spice but not wanting to cry throughout the meal. AMAZING food to say the least. will absolutely return. best i’ve found in...
