alright so, I usually never leave bad reviews nor be disappointed when i eat out, if something isn’t great i usually don’t care and will finish my meal anyways. but goodness this place marked history for my laid back attitude. the food was genuinely gross. i ordered fish and chips and a brisket tator tot appetizer. i will say presentation is nice with generous portions, but the food was just so nasty. the best was the tots and fries that came with my meal, at best. but it tasted as if it was tripled fried. not too mention the food took forever, and the place was practically empty. the worst was the meat, brisket and fish by no means should taste similar, well at this place it tasted the same because both practically had no flavor, the brisket was very dry and chewy, and the cod was heavily fried. i tried to make it work by squeezing lemon on the fish and dipping it in my tartar sauce. i could only taste the lemon and tartar. my friend that i had dinner with also mentioned her meal being tasteless and cooked poorly. when we wanted to leave we had to wait awhile to catch our waitress’s attention, who was missing most of the night, which again the restaurant was practically empty. once we asked for the check we had to wait about 20 minutes to receive it. we took our appetizer to go because we thought we might pick at it in the morning. well after a miserable night from becoming incredibly nauseous from our meal, we opened up the fridge to an absolutely rancid smell, almost like the food became rotten over night, we ended up tossing it. it’s a huge shame to have had that experience because of how many good reviews this place has received. perhaps visiting during off season and while the hotel was under construction contributed to such a poor experience, but it still should’ve lived up to the good reviews. Dear Management Team, My husband and I recently celebrated our first wedding anniversary at the Porch Southern Kitchen & Bar, and while our breakfast experience on the morning of September 6 was excellent, the evening was unfortunately a different story. We arrived at the restaurant at approximately 10:01 PM. The hostess kindly advised us to ask the gentleman behind the bar if the kitchen was still serving food and added that he would at least serve us a drink. However, when we approached him and politely asked if food was still being served, he responded very loudly and curtly with a frown on his face, saying: "NO, WE ARE DONE!!!!!" The tone and delivery were unnecessarily aggressive and unprofessional, especially given the nature of our question. I even turned to my husband and asked if he had just yelled at us, and while my husband thanked him, the bartender didn't even acknowledge the gratitude. This interaction completely changed the tone of our evening. As guest celebrating a special occasion, and as paying customers staying at the Beach House Resort, we expected better. The lack of courtesy and basic hospitality from a staff member in such a setting is unacceptable. Sadly, due to this experience, we do not plan to return to the Beach House Resort or The Porch Southern Kitchen & Bar in the future. Very disappointed. Started out great (great location, ambiance), but after waiting 40 minutes for our meal, we asked the waiter what was taking so long. He said he just checked the ticket time and it should be out soon. 10 more minutes and a woman (assuming the manager) came over to "check on us" and apologize, told us "we're very busy tonight", yet very few tables were actually eating. finally another 10 minutes and we asked for the manager (because 2 tables that came in 20 minutes after us got their food)and the same woman came over, again apologized and we told her we would just pay for our drinks and leave, because it shouldn't take over an hour for our meal. She told us they'd be taking care of our meal. We told her, if it's not coming out now, we're leaving. She assured us they dropped the ball and it would be coming right out. 1 hour and 20 minutes later.. now 8:20pm (so not even prime dinner time) our meal came out. It was ok, not worth the wait or the high prices. They obviously knew they were in the wrong and tried to rectify the situation by taking care of our bill, but enter with caution if you plan on eating here. you may be waiting way too long for a small menu of mediocre food.
