Island Girl — Local services in Hilton Head Island

Cute store, but our customer service experience was unpleasant. At first, the employees seemed friendly. However, we soon realized our every move was being watched a little more closely than is normal in a retail environment. My daughter found a $38 bracelet she wanted to purchase, picked it up and was carrying it around while I finished looking at the clothing. The older sales lady chased her down and asked for her to hand it over so she could keep it at the register. Her body language and tone clearly implied we were thieves. That was an immediate turn-off for us so we all walked out. This is our first time vacationing on HHI and everyone else has been so nice and friendly. Perhaps she has had problems with theft previously but this abrasive approach leaves a lot to be desired. It sounds like this experience may not be unique to us based on some of the other reviews posted here. Hopefully the owners will read this and encourage their employees to assume...

I wanted to start my review by saying that this boutique is worth visiting. They have hand-picked items that are right on trend in an array of pretty colors and styles. The prices are appropriate for a boutique and I felt they were fair. I found two beautiful pieces to take home from my vacation! The reason Island Girl HHI did not earn my last star is because of the stuffy lady that checked me out. The younger brunette who helped me to a changing room was wonderful ...but the older woman who checked me out was not someone who should work customer service. She lacked the ability to make eye contact (at all) and was very cold towards me. She did not thank me for my business at the end of the transaction. It’s a cute store but I was disappointed upon learning the military discount was only for ONE item (and the cheapest one). I bought 3 items, two of which were $30 each and was told “oops, I forgot to give you the military discount on that $9.99 lip gloss even though my husband came to the register just to show his military ID. I said keep your Dollar. Military deserves 10% off the whole purchase not just the cheapest item. Next time, If I ever go back (doubtful) I’ll know to MAKE INDIVIDUAL PURCHASES for my husband’s discount of protecting your right to operate this store. I understand you could offer no discount at all, but your discount doesn’t match the respect of others in the area, and the 10% off ‘the cheapest item….’...
