Since we moved to Holly Springs, we have loved the deep dish here! When we want to have “special” pizza, we come here. The FOOD is always consistent. So for that, I will remain at 5-stars.
HOWEVER, We just came last night (Friday Night) and the service was terrible. When we walked through the door, we were greeted and promptly taken to our table. Our server met us on the way to the table and asked us what we wanted to start out with to drink. My wife answered, and by the time I was getting ready to answer, the server literally was walking away. I continued to answer her anyway and she turned her head and acknowledged what I said. I found this to be weird but paid it no mind. She then Came and asked us if we were ready to order, we went ahead and placed our order for the deep dish knowing it takes time. We ALWAYS get the same thing made the same way. Green bell pepper, olives and pepperoni on the entire pie, and half with sausage. 4 ingredients. Our server just seemed so rushed, didn’t write anything down and proceeded to place our order. Meanwhile the cook behind our table is yelling…I’m not sure I remember that. Maybe it was because we were sitting right in front of the kitchen. But it sucked to have him yell in my ear every 8 minutes or so. But that’s the nature of most kitchens so I get it. Anyway, the pizza comes and it got dropped, and the person walks away. We usually ALWAYS have someone explain to us which half is which….but not this time. We had to flag our server down and ask her. She explained and walked away. We noticed after getting into our pizza that we didn’t receive the olives, but instead onions. We didn’t ask for onions. Even though the pizza was still delicious, it was not what we ordered. And who’s gonna return it and wait another 45-50 minutes for another? Nobody……
Here is my observation from having over 10 years of service experience under my belt with a list of experiences and strategies…..people need to SLOW DOWN these days and pay attention to detail. I understand it is a turn and burn establishment (it’s pizza for crying out loud)….but people still appreciate a great EXPERIENCE. Giving your guests an experience is what you strive for in a restaurant. We didn’t get that last night. We have in the past, but not last night. Slow down, if you can’t remember the order, then WRITE IT DOWN and get it right. She repeated it back, but it still came out wrong. Don’t make your guest feel rushed when they come in to eat. Whether it’s opening hour or closing hour, everyone deserves the same attention and service. We Will definitely continue to keep coming to ACME for sure, but you should have your BEST on the floor on Friday and Saturday nights especially…..we didn’t get that experience last night. And don’t ask me what our servers name was, because she didn’t bother to tell us. 🤷🏽♂️ I expect better from this place. Last night really threw us off. The food (even though the toppings were incorrect) was delicious. Like I said, the review is 5 stars……just tighten up that service element. Each guest...
Read moreWe were looking for a restaurant for lunch that we'd never visited before and thought we'd try Acme Pizza and see what their signature Chicago Pizza was like. We arrived about 11am and there was no one at the bar and only 3 or 4 other customers already seated. We were greeted right away and seated quickly.
They do not serve Diet Coke (matters to some) and Diet Pepsi was the only option available for a diet soda.
We ordered mozzarella sticks and a deep dish pizza. My wife inquired as to what the dessert of the day was Rae, the waitress, said the dessert was pizza knot dough with cinnamon and icing, and we said we would pass as we didn't think we'd enjoy the dessert. Then Rae said the deep dish pizza would take 30 minutes to prepare and asked if we were willing to wait. We agreed to the wait.
When the pizza arrived Rae told us "It cooked really quickly" and wasn't somethings they'd normally sell - translation the crust was burnt black.
Rae said we could try it if we wanted and she'd have another one prepared for us to go, but it would be another 30 minute wait. Since we had to wait anyway we agreed to at least try the burnt one. We ate part of 1/2 of one slice. It proved to be inedible the crust was just too burnt. We did eat the mozzarella sticks - they were over fried - not burnt, but very hard and the cheese center was not hot. They were probably fried and then left over the hot oil in the basket to drain and the center cooled while the exterior got hard - just our guess.
Rae brought us two of the desserts (that we had already declined previously) we had not ordered them and she'd heard us decline to order them. As she left the aluminum wrapped desserts on our table she said, the 2nd pizza would be ready in a few minutes. We could only assume the desserts were some attempt at compensation.
As for atmosphere it was 11am in the morning and the background music was so loud you could not have a conversation.
This was our first and last visit to Acme Pizza. The food was literally inedible, the service perfunctory and they demonstrated no real concern for customer service, all in all a very bad experience. Frankly, we've had a better lunch at Costco's food bar at 1/3 the price. So we will not be return Acme Pizza customers.
If you go to Acme Pizza in Holly...
Read moreI was excited to try this place since I wasn't a big fan of the previous ownership. The decor is a nice improvement but it could still use something to make it seem less like a strip mall place.
We ordered the wedge salad and were really impressed. It was delicious.
The deep dish pizza that arrived was just ok. The crust was actually not good at all, but it didn't look like the photos others have taken here, so it's possible we just got a bad one. It had a little too much cheese on it and that actually made it hard to eat.
We'll give it another shot to see if we just got them on a bad crust day.
It's worth checking out to decide for yourself.
=update=
We tried this restaurant again and I paid more attention to give a more detailed review.
We arrived about 6pm on a Saturday. There were two other tables occupied (out of about 15 or so. It was just my wife and I and the waitress showed us to a small table for two. My wife asked if we could sit at the bigger table next to it. The waitress replied that they like to seat people at the smaller tables in case there's a rush - we both looked around at the near empty room in astonishment, The waitress then sat us at the 4 person table.
We ordered a wedge salad and a small cheese pizza (thin crust). The wedge salad took 10 minutes to make it out to our table, but was delicious. While we were eating it the pizza arrived.
The pizza was much the same as our first time. It's really the dough that I think is the problem. It tasted either not fresh or frozen and then thawed out. The sauce was mildly sweet and was good and the cheese was average.
Our waitress was attentive and did a nice job, she did tell us later that she only gave us the speech about sitting at the smaller table because the owners make her do it and they were watching her. That was a little weird.
Anyway, it will be our last visit to Acme Pizza. I really wanted to find a great local pizza place, but...
