Nestled in the heart of Waikiki, Eggs ‘n Things is more than just a breakfast spot—it’s an experience. During my recent holiday stay, I visited this local gem twice, and each visit was a delightful culinary journey that left me eager to return.

From the moment you arrive, the atmosphere exudes warmth. On my first visit, I opted to sit indoors, where the air conditioning provided a refreshing reprieve from the tropical heat. The space was well-ventilated, cozy, and inviting. My second visit saw me dining al fresco, where the outdoor seating offered a front-row view of Honolulu’s bustling streets, albeit accompanied by Hawaii’s characteristically warm, 80-degree weather.

The service at Eggs ‘n Things deserves a special mention. The host greeted me with genuine aloha spirit, and the entire team radiated kindness and hospitality. On my last visit, they went above and beyond to celebrate my birthday, serenading me with a joyful rendition of “Happy Birthday.” Their attention to detail and personable approach elevated the experience.

The Star of the Show: The Food

Eggs ‘n Things prides itself on delivering hearty, local-style breakfasts, and they do so with flair. My final meal featured the Portuguese Meats and Eggs—a savory delight that perfectly encapsulated Hawaii’s fusion of cultures. The platter showcased smoky, flavorful Portuguese sausage alongside tender, seasoned meats, paired with perfectly cooked eggs of my choosing. The salty, slightly spicy richness of the meats was a comforting nod to Hawaii’s love of bold flavors.

To complement the savory, I indulged in a three-stack of their signature pancakes. Light, fluffy, and served with a medley of tropical syrups, they were nothing short of spectacular. The macadamia nut syrup was a personal favorite, offering a nutty sweetness that balanced the meal beautifully.

A Local Favorite for a Reason

Eggs ‘n Things is the epitome of a “mom-and-pop” establishment, embracing the local charm of Waikiki with a menu that satisfies both tourists and kamaʻāina (locals). The combination of flavorful dishes, warm hospitality, and unpretentious ambiance makes it a standout dining destination.

If you’re seeking a savory, satisfying breakfast in Honolulu, Eggs ‘n Things is an absolute must before leaving the island. Whether you’re savoring their pancakes or diving into a hearty plate of local favorites, this restaurant ensures every bite is memorable. Just be prepared for the tropical heat if you sit outside—but hey,...

I’ve never written a restaurant review before—especially not for a place outside my home country—but I sincerely hope this will be the first and last time I feel the need to do so.

I understand that your restaurant is well-known on the island and has even expanded internationally, including to Japan. I’m aware that one negative review may not significantly affect a business of your scale. Still, I feel compelled to share my experience because it genuinely disrupted what was supposed to be a precious vacation moment with my family.

From the moment we were seated, the lack of cleanliness was hard to ignore. The floors and tables were sticky, as if they hadn’t been properly wiped down, and there were food crumbs under our table. The open windows and window blinds looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in quite some time. If the intention behind the decor is to create a "vintage" feel, I would suggest doing so with better hygiene standards—especially in a place where people are meant to enjoy a meal.

What upset me even more was the interaction with one of your servers. I don’t know her name, but it’s troubling that a restaurant with such a strong reputation—and one where people line up before opening—would hire someone so lacking in basic customer service skills. As I mentioned in my Google review, her attitude was dismissive and frankly disrespectful.

I understand that restaurants in popular tourist areas often deal with a high volume of one-time visitors. But even if many customers are unlikely to return soon, that doesn't mean their experience should be treated as less important. For many of us, dining at your restaurant is part of a once-in-a-lifetime trip. It becomes part of our memory of the island. Unfortunately, in our case, that memory was a negative one.

I hope this feedback encourages your team to take a closer look at both your service and hygiene standards—not just for reputation’s sake, but for the guests who choose your restaurant as part of their...

The employees were kind, patience and very attentive. This restaurant consists of two levels. Downstairs you have the check-in counter and a little shop where you can purchase some souvenirs. (Stickers, different flavors of honey's, logo bags etc.) Due to the waiting time for dine-in the day I visited, I opted for takeout; therefore, I didn't see the restaurant/upstairs. Please keep in mind that you may have to wait awhile before being seated and maybe consider ordering takeout instead, if you have other plans scheduled.

My first visit order was: Create your own Omelet (Fresh mushrooms, fresh spinach, fresh zucchini, cheese and I added bacon. Breakfast potatoes included) (4⭐ ) It was very delicious; just not made the way I'm used to seeing an omelet. I also ordered POG Blend (pineapple, orange and guava juice) (5⭐) very good!

My second visit order: Portuguese sausage & eggs (4⭐) I loved the eggs and potatoes that came with it, but I didn't like the sausage. I also ordered the special Hawaiian sweet bread French toast (3⭐), I was really disappointed with this selection. They forgot to add my whipped cream and macadamia nut sprinkles and although it was my first time eating their French toast, I believe something was just missing and it lacked flavor. Not horrible, but I wouldn't get either dish again.

I would definitely try Eggs 'n things again when I visit...
