Located in the vibrant International Market Place, Herringbone Waikiki is a seafood lover’s paradise that offers a unique and delightful dining experience in the heart of Honolulu. My visit to this exceptional restaurant was a highlight of my trip, and it’s easy to see why it’s a favorite among both locals and tourists.
From the moment you step into Herringbone Waikiki, you are greeted by a chic and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant features an open-air design with lush greenery, rustic wooden accents, and stylish decor that perfectly captures the essence of coastal dining. The ambiance is relaxed yet sophisticated, making it an ideal spot for everything from casual lunches to special celebrations.
Herringbone Waikiki is renowned for its “Fish Meats Field” concept, which seamlessly blends fresh seafood with locally sourced produce and meats. The menu is a testament to the culinary team’s creativity and dedication to using the finest ingredients. As a seafood enthusiast, I was thrilled with the diverse and innovative options available.
One of the standout dishes I enjoyed was the Oyster Sampler. Fresh, briny, and beautifully presented, the oysters were a perfect start to the meal. The Lobster Roll, another highlight, was generously filled with succulent lobster meat and served on a perfectly toasted bun. The combination of flavors and textures was simply divine.
For those looking for something unique, the Whole Fish Ceviche is a must-try. This visually stunning dish features fresh fish marinated in tangy citrus juices, complemented by a medley of vibrant herbs and spices. It’s a refreshing and flavorful choice that truly showcases the quality of the seafood.
Beyond the seafood, Herringbone Waikiki also offers an array of delicious non-seafood options. The Braised Short Rib, tender and flavorful, is a fantastic choice for meat lovers. Paired with seasonal vegetables and a rich, savory sauce, it’s a dish that satisfies on every level.
The drink menu at Herringbone Waikiki is equally impressive, featuring a curated selection of wines, craft beers, and signature cocktails. The Herringbone Margarita, with its perfect balance of sweet and tart, quickly became a favorite. For a more tropical twist, the Coconut Grove cocktail is a refreshing blend of coconut, pineapple, and rum that transports you straight to the beach.
One of the lesser-known but delightful aspects of dining at Herringbone Waikiki is the restaurant’s commitment to sustainability. They source their seafood responsibly and emphasize the use of local and seasonal ingredients. This dedication to sustainability not only enhances the dining experience but also supports the local community and environment.
For those looking to dine in a group, Herringbone Waikiki offers a fantastic Happy Hour with great deals on oysters, appetizers, and drinks. It’s the perfect way to sample a variety of dishes without breaking the bank.
Whether you’re a seafood aficionado or simply looking for a memorable dining experience in Honolulu, Herringbone Waikiki is a must-visit. The combination of exceptional food, inviting ambiance, and attentive service makes it a standout destination in the bustling Waikiki area. Highly recommended for a culinary journey that delights the senses and leaves you...
Read moreBuffalo octopus and oysters, $2 oysters to be exact. That's all I need to be happy here. This place is absolutely gorgeous with its indoor and outdoor seating. If you get a chance, choose outdoor seating...well worth it! It's located on the third floor of the International Marketplace (make sure you get parking validation).
They pay attention to all the details from the beautiful blue glasses to the boxes filled with plants that decorate the outside seating part of the restaurant. The service is outstanding. We had an amazing waiter who was attentive and gave great suggestions.
Now, just so you know this place is pricey. As in easily spend $150+ per person especially if you drink. Therefore, we came for happy hour which is in the bar and lounge 4-6 pm daily. Go early, this place fills up quick. Also you must love seafood. Otherwise, you better find another place to go!
The bar was packed when we came at 4:30pm on a weekday! The hosted was kind enough to seat outside and let us still order from the happy hour menu. There is a drink and food menu for happy hour; it is small but everything we tried was delicious. We skipped drinks since we were making happy hour our dinner!
yellowtail crudo the truffle and yuzu flavors weren't overpowering which was nice since those are strong flavors
mussels tikka a bit messy and a bit spicier than I could eat but the mussels were nice and fat. The flavor was really nice with the mussels
pig and pineapple flatbread more like a thin pizza and had a nice combination of flavors
My absolute favorite despite being way to spicy for me was the Buffalo octopus. The octopus was so tender, you could cut through it super easily. It wasn't tough or rubbery at all. It was so good with the Buffalo sauce but it was very spicy for me. Next time I'm going to ask if I can have no sauce. I think the octopus would still taste just as good!
The best part of their happy hour is the two buck shuck! They have different oysters every day but during their happy hour ( or what they call oyster hour with good reason), they are $2/each! They come with 3 different sauces and these cute mini Tabasco bottles.
We spent $100 for the 2 of us without drinks, including tip. Now the million dollar question, was it worth it? Yes it was.
We can't wait to come back and try their weekend brunch (date I say bottomless mimosas) and their dinner menu which looked amazing. Review will be updated once we come back.
come for oyster hour buffalo octopus hmmmm... and the...
Read moreTo start, I would just like to say that the first impression and walking in experience was very nice. The combination of different décor styles using a drift wood look, tropical plants, other coastal living accents was very well incorporated in the restaurant.
Service was very friendly and sincere from the start and all the way to the finish. Everyone working seemed genuine and happy to be there as well as egger to please. Our server was very attentive and was always checking to see if everything was okay, although she seemed to always ask how we were doing at the moment we had food in our mouths, but that is everywhere I guess. LOL
The oysters were very tasty, but I think the person doing the shucking needs a bit more instructions on how to do it a bit more cleanly. I kept getting oyster shells in my bites, but it was forgiven with the quality and flavor of the oysters.
The Smoked Trout Caesar was excellent. Ordered it as a split to share. It was the perfect cleanse after the oysters to the main course. Ordered two mains. The Hokkaido Scallops were excellent. Tasty and cooked to perfection. Great flavor and tenderness. Only disappointment was they looked like they were plated like an appetizer. Would have liked a bit more of the bamboo rice that they were bedded on. For the Tomahawk Porkchop, that was the big disappointment. It was a very sad looking, little bone-in porkchop that I could have gotten at any grocery store and not really of any notable flavor or outstanding quality. I would pass at $38.
The Mango Beer was a tasty delight for a lighter beer that went well with the meal through the desert. Not heavy or to light. Flavors most would like.
It is located in the International Market Place 3rd floor, so the majority of the customers were tourists. That being said, we noticed more children then normal. There were some fussy ones, but being a fairly open restaurant, the crying and squawking tolerable for the most part.
One big regret was that after we were finished, we saw someone ordered the whole fish at the table next to us. It was beautiful. That would have been a winner for us. So that being said, we will be back to try the...
