Be careful ordering take-out here. I there today to buy a spicy tuna inari and a tekka maki to go. I went in -- the place was empty -- and ordered the spicy tuna inari. For some reason, I couldn't remember the name of the plain ahi maki. I told the gentleman behind the counter I wanted the plain tuna that came in a small roll but couldn't remember the name. "The hand roll?" he suggested. I said, no, not the hand roll. Then I remembered "tekka maki" and ordered that to accompany the spicy tuna inari. When I got home, I found I had been given the tekka maki and the spicy tuna HAND ROLL. I live a block away, so I had left the shop about 5 minutes earlier. I called and told the gentleman who I was, and that I had wanted the spicy tuna inari but had been given the hand roll. He told me to return with the receipt, but I reminded him I had just left -- and when he offered me the receipt, I had declined. I think he remembered me then, and told me to just return. So, I did and waited a few minutes. A person was leaving with take-out, but otherwise the place was empty again. I told the gentleman again that I'd be given the spicy tuna hand roll when I had ordered the inari, and offered to show it to him. He said it wasn't necessary. The woman who works there came over a few minutes later and handed me a container in a bag and said, "Inari." I said, "Right," apologized for the confusion (even though it wasn't my fault), and left. When I got home, I discovered she'd given me plain inari instead of the spicy tuna inari! What the heck?! The place wasn't busy and I ordered only two things. And yet they managed to make a mistake with my order twice. Also note: I learned the first time I went there that unless you specifically request wasabi and/or ginger, you will not be given any. Those are pretty standard sushi accompaniments, but I got home the first time and discovered they apparently think otherwise. So, I asked for ginger today as the gentleman was about to hand me my order and he went back and added a few slices. I won't be going back -- there are plenty of places around here for fast sushi to go. But if you do go there for take-out, I suggest you be very specific and double-check your order...
Read moreI wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised by Honolulu Sushi. Great place to pick up some delish sushi without a long wait. Plenty of parking in the Like Like Drive Inn lot as well. The menu is easy to follow. They have a selection of things as far as sushi is concerned and better yet, they have bentos, which is basically like getting a meal to go with sushi included. I'm sure you'll find something you like as far as their selection and the combinations that they offer.
I'd def. go back here and try other things on the menu. The staff is really friendly and it has a feel as if you're in your own home. Check this place out when you're looking for a quick satisfying meal at very...
Read moreWe have been looking for a local place to eat. Be careful to go the correct 1, there are 2 in the google search. This place on Keeaumoku St is awesome with great reviews, while the other place doesn't rate so well. We weren't disappointed! We ordered 1 of the plates thinking that it would be just enough for the 2 of us. When he gave me 6 sets of chopsticks, I should've got the message. Their platters are huge and delicious. The food was fantastic and the price was even better, that platter was only $43. At home, a platter that large would've been close to $100. The fish was fresh; although, there is more rice than I'm accustomed to. But I love sticky rice, so it was no...
