This is one of my favorite Korean tofu soup places to go. Been hitting this place for almost 20 years now since I discovered them at one of their old locations. I think this makes location number 4 for me and I like this one best.
This new location is clean, well lit, comfortable, and in a decent location. It is a bit more comfortable then the last with the extra space. Parking seems a little challenging this busy area, but the trick is to park at the Walmart and walk over verses hot and unreliable street parking.
Of course the tofu soup is the thing to eat there and they have an amazing lunch special where there are some very good deals to get other side dishes with your soup. Of course your meal comes with the typical banchan. Over the years, I don't think I have ever had a bad meal or experience with this restaurant.
Being a family business, they have always been very friendly. Food always comes out hot, fresh, and well prepared. I am a big fan of their original soondubu and seafood pancake. They have a lot of other great stuff on the menu, but honestly never tried because I get the same stuff because...
Read moreGreat spot for Korean Soondobu (Spicy Tofu Soup)!
I was craving some Soondobu since I haven't had it in a while and glad I came across this place. Typical Hawaiian price but it was well worth the meal. Just like most Korean restaurants came with a variety of side dishes called Banchan. This place had bean sprouts, spinach, potato, radish kimchi and regular kimchi (Korean spicy pickled cabbage).
They had a combo option to add on another dish so I had the one with fish. Not sure what fish it was but it was good. You definitely need to eat the soup and the fish with some rice as both were on the salty side.
They do have a variety of soon dubu but I have with the popular seafood option. If you like seafood, you can't go wrong with this option. The soup came with a mussel, a few clams, and a few shrimps. I think it gives it a better umami flavor to the broth as the soup comes out hot. They give you an egg to crack open and put it in as well.
All in all it was well worth it and if you want to try soon dobu this is the place to try it. Worth...
Read moreHad lunch here. Ordered a whole bunch of food including seafood tofu soup, grilled short rib, seafood pancake amongst others. Food was mediocre at best.
Service was subpar from one individual. When we arrived there was a gentleman and a lady working the tables. The lady was hard working and constantly on the move. I suppose she was the employee. No complaints there. The gentleman, which I can only assume as the owner or manager was slow, non responsive at times and got the female server to do the work where possible. One person from our party asked for the washroom key and he didn’t respond. Asked again and was told to “JUST WAIT”. Male owner/manager was quite rude. I suppose the mask he had on reduced his voice, but can’t fault the other person asking the question again.
TL:DR: Food is average, service is hit or miss depending on you get. Seafood pancake is a joke, there were probably 3-5 pieces of shrimp all together.
