Ice Monster Hawaii — Restaurant in Honolulu

If you need to cool off from the Hawaii hot and sunny weather, this is the place for you in the middle of Waikiki on Kuhio Avenue. The place is large and with it's fun décor makes for an enjoyable place to relax while trying this unique Asian style dessert from Taiwan that anyone would enjoy if you like cold treats.

It is a true shaved iced treat. The dessert is made from very finely shaved flavored iced that is impossible to describe. It is just something you have to checkout yourself. All I can tell you is that is is very delicious and will definitely cool you off as well as satisfy you for a snack or dessert.

I tried the Papaya Milk Sensation which had fresh flavors of papaya shaved ice dessert with tapioca boba and panna cotta. It is great if you don't want anything that is overly sweet and has lighter flavors. I appreciated how they gave the warmed tapioca boba in a side container so that it didn't melt your desert before you could enjoy it. You just take a small spoonful of the warm tapioca and then dig into the papaya shaved ice for the full effect.

One thing to note, is that is isn't a cheap eat, but you have to respect how they handcraft your dessert for you at time of ordering. It isn't like going to an ice cream parlor where they just take a scoop of your flavor choice and pile it on. I think it is worth it, but might not be the place for one who is...

I thought this was a pretty fantastic shaved ice place obviously it’s a very popular dessert choice in Hawaii so there’s a lot of different stains and stores all over the place. What I liked about this one is the flavors that you choose are actually big chunks of that flavor so for example, when we chose mango, it was them shaving a massive block of mango flavored ice And the same thing goes for the strawberry.

This location was very clean. I thought the bank for buck small was right on point. The large looked massive would highly recommend if you’re in downtown Honolulu and have a hankering for shaved ice with some good flavors.

Parking can be tough as this is a downtown location, but we ended up parking at the international marketplace and just walking

Happy to report that the quality of the ice itself is pretty much on par with how it is in Taiwan! Was super busy on a late Saturday night. I ordered a small milk tea flavor and they accidentally gave me a large coffee flavor, which I realized after the first bite and my companions confirmed this. I took it back front with the order receipt and the staff was so nice to take it and said she'd send a new one over (we felt bad knowing it'd probably get tossed but none of us wanted coffee). A few minutes later we got a new fluffy bowl, took a bite only to realize... it was the same bowl of coffee shave ice, just with a thin fresh layer of milk tea added on top 😂 Ah well! They were so busy we decided against contesting further. The brown sugar boba was way too mushy, it barely had any QQ texture anymore.
