The weird thing about this place: we walked in, and they said they do not have any sitting. 15 min later, I checked the open table, and they had a bunch of tables available, so I did a reservation and simply had a table. Take note: do a resy; if they do not want to help you find a table - they will pay a fee for reservation service, and you will save words on talking to anyone. The hostess, though, was very polite; no issue with that.
AMBIENCE they have a beautiful sitting area. If you are a big company - that’s a place to go; they have a lounge area where you can grab drinks and food and have fun with your friends. Their bar is also very beautiful and comfortable!
FOOD We ordered the island salad and pork tacos. The tacos were not bad at all! My friend said that they were one of a few good pork tacos he have eaten, and besides the juiciest ones for sure. The salad was good, but it was missing a bit of dressing. The orders were coming out very long. I would say at least 30 minutes. Considering that at that time, they have been already half empty - that’s a very long time for a salad and tacos.
DRINKS I took a cocktail with blackberry, which was very similar to Bramble. Although, a bit unbalanced because it was way too sweet. Still, it was really good. Aperol Spriz was on point; nothing to add or to take! I have to say, here in Hawaii, they know how to master a perfect Aperol spritz! Hahaha
STAFF Not good! First, we were seated for 15 min, and no one came to us or brought us water. Then she rushed to us, we ordered drinks, and I asked for water. And then we were back to 15 min wait time, no drinks, no water. I found the waitress and asked for drinks, and with so much attitude, she said, “do not you think you just ordered it” - I was astonished by her rude, pompous response. It was not like I run to her in 2 min demanding my drinks... (15 min!!!). I kindly asked if she at least can bring me water.
Normally, I would rate this type of place at 3 points, but this time I rate it at 4 points with a stretch, just because I have to look at Oahu’s level of hospitality overall. All was more or less good, besides the attitude. The staff needs to pick up on some courtesy and kindness, and the management needs to give more...
Read moreLet me start with the good. The service and atmosphere was great. DO NOT EAT the tuna/ahi burger. Within 30 min of almost finishing my meal I had stomach cramps and was complaining to my husband about my sore stomach (I felt like a child complaining). He brushed it off as I always tell him I'm having a food baby. Anyway even before I left the restaurant I had to visit the ladies. This is where the trouble started. A slightly runny sausage if you are picking up what I am putting down. By the time we walked back to the hotel (10 min) I starting putting down a lot more. And I mean a lot lot more. Putting it down the toilet bowl. I lost count how many times I went to the bathroom that night. At times I wasn't sure which end the brown stuff was coming from, but it sure was both ends. Often simultaneously. During the hours of 10pm to 8am I slept probably 2 hours. I lost easily 3kgs (I'll take this as a positive from the experience). At probably my lowest point I was crying naked on the bathroom floor sweating and lying next to my earlier vomit. Did I mention that this was actually our honeymoon. Yup. Pure romance at its finest. I just wanted the night from hell to end. My new husband did not get much sleep that night often coming to comfort me. Regardless I was atleast happy inside (there wasn't much else inside) that he wasn't sick too. UNTIL 6am and I hear the sound of a monster come up from his inside. Poor guy was now sick. I think I forgot to mention that I couldn't finish my dinner so he ate the rest of the ahi. Now both of us were in the pit of the food poisoning ahi hell. I don't wish this experience on anyone. This next day coincidently was the day we were to catch a long haul flight. I'll fast forward until just shy of 24 hours later and my husband power chucked on terminal 2 airport wall. He didn't make it to the bathroom in time. We had the worst flight home and we still aren't able to eat a full meal as our stomachs are destroyed. Literally don't think I'll be...
Read moreI had been eagerly anticipating my birthday celebration at Hideout at The Laylow Waikiki, but sadly, it turned out to be a major letdown. We had made reservations well in advance for a busy Saturday night (my birthday), and after an expensive cab ride across the island, we arrived in high spirits, dressed for the occasion. However, upon reaching the front desk, we were hit by the news that our table was no longer available due to rain. It was disheartening to be told at the door that we 'no longer had a reservation,' especially since I've never experienced this with a pre booked reservation anywhere else before.
What made matters worse was the lack of proactive communication earlier in the day to warn us about the possibility of losing our reservation due to inclement weather. We were simply put on a waitlist for an inside table, with an estimated wait time of over an hour. Stranded without any immediate alternatives and unable to navigate the rainy weather in our attire, we reluctantly sought refuge at a cheap and empty nearby bar, trying to salvage the evening in our nice outfits.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, we were seated outside with only umbrellas and towels provided as a makeshift solution. It was only after some time that we were relocated to a slightly more sheltered area, but by then, the damage had been done.
While the staff were friendly and the drinks were decent, the lack of compensation or proactive solutions to our inconvenience was disappointing. As a local, I feel compelled to caution others, especially those planning special occasions, about the lack of contingency plans for rainy weather on busy nights.
I'd advise against setting high expectations, especially if rain is in...
